한국 근대시의 먼동: 水山 金祐鎭의 漢詩―전통의 변용과 창출, 전통과 근대의 변증법― (On the Hanshi of Susan Kim Woo-jinas the Dawn of Korean Modern Verse)

초록

This study intends to propose a view on the research on the literary history and the research on Susan by rereading his Hanshis(漢詩) which Susan(水山) Kim Woo—Jin(金祐鎭：1897~1927) wrote.
First of all, this paper looks back on the history of Hanshi from the 1900’s to 1910’s, that is, from the patriotism enlightenment stage after opening ports to the early colonial period. Then, it confirms the position of Susan as one of the first modern poets and observes his point of view on the Korean tradition. In addition, glancing over the Hanshis by his father, Chojeong(草亭) Kim Seong—gyu(金星圭), this paper reinterprets the five pieces by Susan and examines what kind of relationship they have with his free verses in colloquial style at the early stage of Korean free verse.
Susan’s Hanshis were the first modern Hanshis in the history of Korean literature. While most of the Hanshi writers in those days did not go through the paradigm of the modern world and self—consciousness but reproduced the restricted world of the past, Susan could fuse the tradition with the modern world.
Susan’s Hanshis were the adaptation of the traditional value to the modern value, the process of dissolving the modern world view in the traditional frame. It can be said that they were the real dialectic itself between the tradition and the modernity. In Susan’s Hanshis, the feeling of loyalty and filial piety as Confucian values were converted into Life Force or national/ethnic identity with the desire of capitalism and romanticism.
In conclusion, Susan’s Hanshis unconsciously aimed at overcoming the binary parallelism between the East and the West and that between anti—Japanese and pro—Japanese and so on. They also involve both the value of the tradition as postmodernism and the postcolonial motion.
