『삼국사기』잡지의 편찬과 직관지의 체재 (The Compilation of the Jabji of the Samguksagi and the format of the Jikgwanji)

The Ji(志) of Samguksagi(『三國史記』) newly adopted during the compilation of Samguksagi(『三國史記』), is not found in the Old Samguksa(『舊三國史』). For this reason, the compilers intended to emulate the compilation practice of the Ji(志) of Chinese historical records. However, the other name the Ji(志) of Samguksagi(『三國史記』), Jabji(雜志), different from the Chinese historical records, reveals the unique characteristics of Samguksagi(『三國史記』) that covers the unique history of the three countries that are distinct from China while emulating the format of the Chinese historical record.
Baekgwanji(百官志) and Jikgwanji(職官志) of Chinese Libraries originated from Baekgwangonggyeongpyo(百官公卿表) of Han-shu(『漢書』). Although it was consistently compiled, the contents were in many cases the barely different from the previous ones. As the government organization of Sui Dynasty(隋) was expanded and maintained, and underwent reorganization through the compilation of Tangliudian(『唐六典』), a description of the government organization of Tang Dynasty(唐) was absorbed into Baekgwanji(百官志) of Xin Tang-shu(『新唐書』) and Jikgwanji(職官志) of Jiu tang-shu(『舊唐書』).
Samguksagi(『三國史記』) succeeded the structural system of Jiu tang-shu(『舊唐書』) in its use of the term Jikgwanji(職官志) and the use of small headers. Further, it seems that the listing of public offices in Samguksagi(『三國史記』) was based on the name of the general, his official rank, and the status of the office. The reason why Jikgwanji(職官志) of Samguksagi(『三國史記』) did not follow the arrangement of superior/subordinate relationship of offices while following the Jiu tang-shu(『舊唐書』)’s system otherwise was because, the superior/subordinate relationship could not be properly examined as was the case with Goryeosa(『高麗史』). In addition, the Jikgwanji (職官志) of Samguksagi(『三國史記』) did not describe the designated tasks of the office or constituent officers, which shows that there were no preexistent Jikgwanji(職官志) or Jikwonryeong(職員令) regarding the legal system at the time of the compilation of Jikgwanji(職官志).
Under such circumstances the compiler of Jikgwanji(職官志) must have contemplated on the structural system and description method, and the systematic description method of Jiu tang-shu(『舊唐書』) which labeled the contents into categories with small headers must have provided the compiler a certain classification system for the historical materials that were collected. Yet, because the political system of Silla(新羅) could not be fully canvassed, arrangements adverse to the general directionality such as the Jeon(典) public offices in all departments and the Wihwabu(位和府) were inevitable.
