『소년(少年)』지(誌)의 문체적 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Stylistic Characteristic of the So-nyeon(少年))

초록

본고는 개화기의 대표적인 계몽 잡지인 『소년(少年)』을 대상으로 하여 개화기 국어의 문체적 특성을 밝히는 데 그 목적이 있다. 지금까지 『소년(少年)』에 관해 연구가 되어 온 것은 시가류의 근대성, 신소설의 문체, 개화기 잡지류에 보편적으로 나타나는 문체의 변화 등을 단편적으로 소개하는 정도에 머물러 있을 뿐 아직 『소년(少年)』을 중심으로 한 개화기 국어의 문체적 특성 전반에 관한 연구는 찾아보기 힘들다. 따라서 본 연구는 개화기 국어의 일반적인 특성과 『소년(少年)』만이 지니는 개별적인 특성을 더 분명하게 드러낼 수 있는 중요한 작업이 될 것이라 생각한다. 『소년(少年)』은 게재된 기사의 종류나 독자층에 따라 문체의 특성이 다르게 나타난다. 이를 위해 먼저 기사의 종류를 크게 문학, 비문학으로 분류하고 문체의 유형을 표기 요소, 어휘 요소, 구문 요소로 나누어 살펴보았다. 그 결과 문학 관련 기사와 비문학 관련 기사는 문체의 쓰임에서 차이를 보였는데 문학 관련 기사는 대체로 한글체나 국한혼용체라 하여도 한자가 매우 적거나 알기 쉬운 한자어 국한혼용체가 사용되었고, 전문성이 높은 비문학 관련 기사들은 한자와 한문어의 사용이 많은 한자어 혹은 한문어 국한혼용체가 주로 사용되었다.

영어초록

This paper is to provide analysis on the literary style during the age of enlightenment by examining So-nyeon(少年), the well-known magazine of enlightenment literature. Analysis on So-nyeon so far was limited to examine several issues including modernity of poetries, literary style of a new-style novel, changing patterns of literary style generally shown on magazines during the age of enlightenment and creation of new terminologies due to introduction of western culture. Till now there has been only few analysis on literary style of the age of enlightenment examining So-nyeon. This paper will explain the general characteristics of the age of enlightenment about Korean and individual features of So-nyeon by the following process of analysis.
In chapter Ⅱ, historical characteristics of the age of enlightenment is introduced and analysis on general features of literary style on the age of enlightenment of Korean is provided. By examining literary style on So-nyeon, transition stage of Korean during the age of enlightenment and individual characteristic disclosed from So-nyeon is briefly verified.
On chapter Ⅲ, in order to inquire the difference in literary style among writings on different articles for various classes of reader, articles were categorized to literary, non-literary. For each category of article, patterns of literary style are classified to orthography, style, sentence structure examining literary styles commonly used in literature and non-literature.
As a result, literary articles and non-literary articles shown difference in the usage of literary style. In literary articles, even though it was mostly style of Korean or a mixed style of writing Korean with Chinese characters in it. On the other hand, for non-literary articles with frequent rate of a word written in Chinese characters usage was found. The goal of practical articles to promote reader's understanding and to persuade them deemed to result in more usage of a Chinese characters, ideographs with capability to deliver meanings in an accurate and concise manner. Moreover, non-literary articles had shown a Chinese characters as functioning as independent lexeme and this is an evidence of transitional changes of literary style during the age of enlightenment which also affect the process of changes from a style of writing Chinese to a mixed style of writing Korean with Chinese characters in it and finally to a style of writing Korean shown in So-nyeon.
In chapter Ⅳ, analysis is summarized and meaning of this thesis arranged.
