현대인의 한(韓)·중(中) 전통수납장에 대한 의미와 인식 특성 비교 (A Comparison of the Conceptual Attributes between the Korean and Chinese Traditional Closets Using the SD Method)

초록

본 연구는 한국과 중국의 전통수납장을 관념적 상징성을 가진 문화의 기호이자 생활양식을 총체적으로 반영하고 있는 산물로 가정하고, 한국, 중국의 전통수납장에 대한 감성적 평가결과를 비교분석함으로써 ‘한국적 디자인’의 특성 및 인식요인을 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 따라서 ‘한국적’인 디자인에 대한 개념정립 및 인식을 명확히 하기 위하여 중국과 한국의 전통 수납장에 대한 사용자의 인식특성을 SD법과 SPSS통계분석을 활용하여 정량화 하였다. 실험은 예비조사를 통하여 마련된 실험재료를 활용하여 평가 지를 만든 후, 20~30대 대학-대학원생 총 225명을 대상으로 실험을 시행하였다. 각국의 전통수납장에 대한 의미차이를 분석하여 본 결과 중국 전통 장에 비하여 한국의 것은 상대적으로 장식적이고, 리듬감이 있으며, 섬세하고, 다양하고, 볼륨감이 있다고 느껴지는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 SD평가 결과를 토대로 각 국 수납장의 의미평가에 영향을 미친 요인을 추출한 결과, 한국의 전통수납장에 대한 이미지는 ‘문화정체성’, ‘심미적 판단’, ‘장식적 특성’, ‘독자성’, ‘형태특성’, ‘감성적 특성’이라는 요인의, 중국의 전통수납장에 대한 이미지는 ‘문화정체성’, ‘심미적 판단’, ‘감성적 특성’, ‘독자성’, ‘조형적 특성’ 이라는 요인의 상호작용적 틀로 이루어져 있음을 알 수 있다.

영어초록

The study seeks is to identify the similarities and differences between Korean and Chines traditional closets using a Semantic Differential Method and find out the factors that constitute the impressions. The SD (Semantic Differential) method is a psychological evaluation measurements method that is used to analyze and measure the meaning of complex concepts that each person has individually. It involves the use of by using linguistic materials. This study primarily examines the precise understanding and utilization of the SD method and the interpretation of study results and the related meaning. It then analyzes and measures the meaning of the concepts related to Korean and Chinese traditional furniture through the method in order to study the aspect of this meaning. Of the Korean and Chinese traditional furniture, the SD method uses five each for a total of ten 'closet' sample photos in an experiment. 225 individuals participated in the test of the method.
The specific results are as follows. People believe that the Korean traditional closets are very unique, heavy, beautiful, decorative and delicate. On the other hand, Chinese traditional closets are simple, flat, non-rtythmical and non-artificial. Additionally, several cognition factors are gathered from a factor analysis(SPSS) of the results through the SD method. Korean people have a diverse image of the traditional closets based on their interacting frames of cultural identity, decorative judgment, uniqueness, formative characteristics and emotional characteristics. Chinese traditional closets are based on the interacting frames of cultural identity, decorative judgment, uniqueness, formative characteristics and emotional characteristics.
This study is meaningful as it targets the subjects of awareness regarding the actual traditional Korean design. Based on this study, if practical studies of the application of traditional furniture today are done, correct understanding and adaptation of the actual Korean designs will be achieved simultaneously.
