탯줄 자르기의 정신분석적 의미 (Psychoanalytic meanings of cutting umbilical cord)

초록

인류의 풍속과 신화에는 생명활동의 기원과 연관된 상징의례와 신화소들이 존재한다. 그것의 의미를 규명하려면 임신－탯줄－탯줄자르기로 구성된 인체발생학 지식과 더불어 정신분석학 지식의 보충이 필요하다.
특히 탯줄 자르기 풍속에는 인류의 생존과 ‘정신의 성장’을 위해 주목해야할 메시지들이 담겨있다. 그 메시지는 첫째, 눈에 보이지 않는 자궁 속 태아의 삶과 출산 과정에서 겪는 신생아의 충격 경험이, 이후의 삶에서 정신성의 발달과 퇴행(병리) 양태를 좌우하는 중요 요인임을 주목시킨다.
둘째, 탯줄에 의존하는 자궁 속 태아의 심신 상태로부터 자궁 밖 환경에로 전환되는 ‘분기점’에서 이루어지는 주목해야할 심리 작용을 의미한다.
셋째, 태아기 상태로 돌아가려는 욕구와, 엄마 젖가슴에 집착하는 구강기 ‘편집-분열 자리’의 환상 심리로부터 벗어나야 함을 의미한다.
넷째, 아이의 신체운동력과 자아기능이 성장해감에 따라 엄마에 대한 전적인 의존으로부터 점차 분리 독립해가는 과정의 험난함을 의미한다.
다섯째, 아이를 영원히 소유하기 위해 아이가 외부세계로 떠나가는 걸 원지 않는 엄마의 욕망으로부터 해방되기 위한 치열한 투쟁 활동을 의미한다.
여섯째, 태아에게 탯줄이 지닌 생리적ㆍ심리적 가치에 해당하는, 아동의 남근에 대한 ‘거세’를 의미한다. 이 거세공포로 인해 아동은 이성의 부모에 대한 리비도 집착을 포기하고, 아버지의 규범요구를 수용하여 정신성의 비약적 전환과 발달을 이루게 된다.
일곱째, 소년의 정신성에서 사회의 험한 요구들에 능동적으로 대처하는 성인의 정신성에로 성장하기 위한 통과의례 체험을 의미한다.
여덟째, 개인 정신에 내재된 인류무의식의 지혜와 에너지에 접속하여 현실의 난제를 해결하고 과업을 성취하기 위해 거쳐야 하는 ‘개성화 과정’에서, 방해하는 힘들인 그림자ㆍ콤플렉스들과의 대결을 의미한다.
정신의 성장 원리에 주목하는 정신분석학이 발견해낸 탯줄자르기의 이런 상징 의미들을 의학이 제공하는 인체발생학 정보와 병행하여 숙지하면, 고대 신화와 풍속의례에 담긴 우주와 인류의 기원과 지혜로운 생존술에 관한 상징 표현들의 의미를 종합적으로 해독할 수 있다.

영어초록

In old human customs and mythology, there exist some symbolic rituals and mythemes related to the origin of life. In order to clarify the meaning of those symbols, we need to pay attention not only to somatic-ecological knowledge which consists of pregnancy, umbilical cord, and cutting umbilical cord, but also to some psycho-analytic knowledge. In customs of cutting umbilical cord, there are some noteworthy messages for survival and psychological growth of human race. The followings are the summary of the messages:In the first place, the invisible life of fetus and the shocking experience which it goes throw during its birth are the very important factors which work on the metal growth and regression mode in the life after birth.
Second, cutting umbilical cord reflects the unique ‘mental process’ which appears when the fetus’ environments and mind change, from inside to the outside of its mother’s womb.
Third, cutting umbilical cord means the fetus is freed from  fantasy in ‘paranoid-schizoid position’, with which it is obsessed with mother’s breast.
Fourth, cutting umbilical cord means the process of the independence; children become more and more independent on their mothers as their physical ability and ego grow.
Fifth, cutting umbilical cord also means the intense struggles against mother’s desire which does not want her child to go out to the broad world in order to own her child forever.
Sixth, cutting umbilical cord for fetus is like the ‘castration’ for a child, because the psychological value of umbilical cord for fetus is just like the one of penis for child. Since this castration fear, children give up the sexual obsession towards their parents and accept the norms of their fathers. This allow them swift psychological growth.
Seventh, cutting umbilical cord also mean the ‘passafe-ritual’ experience one should go through in order to grow as an adult; Being an adult means one become able to actively deal with many tough demands from the society.
Eighth, cutting umbilical cord means the confronting one’s complex and shadow which casted one’s and one’s people’s inside. One should go through this process during ‘Individuation Pross’ in order to exploit the wisdom and energy of ‘Group-Unconsciousness’ for solving the conundrum of reality.
Psycho-analysis pays attention to the principles of mental growth and found those symbolic meanings of cutting umbilical cord. If one observe these symbolic meanings with somatic-ecological information from medical science, one can reach the comprehensive understanding of the meaning of customs and mythology related to the origin of life and the cosmological circulation.
