연극병주(衍極並註)의 윤리적 서예관에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Ethical Calligraphy View of "Yanji bingzhu")

초록

원(元)나라의 서예 이론은 보편적으로 송(宋)나라의 풍습, 특히 남송(南宋)에서 주희(朱熹)로 대표되는 성리학의 정통론(正統論)을 계승하였다. 원나라의 서예 이론가였던 정진(鄭枃)은 서예의 심미와 서예 감상 등의 서학(書學) 사상을 표현한 책인 『연극(衍極)』을 저술하였다. 그러나 『연극』은 원문이 간략하였기 때문에 유유정(劉有定)이 원작을 주석(注解) 하였으며 원문과 주석을 합쳐 『연극병주(衍極並註)』를 저술하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 『연극병주』에 담긴 유가의 윤리적 서예관을 고찰하는 것이다. 이에 대해 필자는 『연극병주』를 원나라 전체의 문화환경과 철학 사상의 흐름에 견주어 고찰하고, 서예 이론을 유학 사상의 시각으로 조명해야 한다고 주장한다. 본 연구에서는 『연극병주』에 담긴 서학적 사상과 유가의 서예관을 고찰하고 분석한다. 먼저 『연극병주』에서 윤리적인 서예관이 형성된 문예 배경을 논술하여 원나라 서예 이론의 관점에 영향을 준 사상적 기초를 조사한다. 둘째, 『연극 병주』의 문헌 내용을 분석하여 유가 사상의 영향을 받은 서예관의 특징을 고찰한다. ‘중지지(中之至)’의 개념에서부터 시작하여 유가 학설의 이론적 출처를 밝혀내고, 어느 한쪽으로 치우치지 않는 공정함(不偏不倚)을 서예의 미학적 이상으로 강조한다. 원나라 서예 사조의 주류는 ‘복고(復古)’이고 진⋅당(晉唐)나라의 고법(古法)을 존경하는 풍조 속에서 서예 ‘법도(法度)’의 중요성을 부각한다. 정진에게서 ‘법(法)’은 천지가 가진 ‘이치’를 의미하며 사람들의 마음속에 존재한다. 마음이 올곧아야 법이 존재할 수 있고, 서예의 인격화를 더욱 강조한다는 것이다. 정진은 유가의 도통(道統)을 본떠 서예사의 정통(正統) 인물을 정리하고 후대 서예의 정통성과 ‘중(中)’의 기준을 세우고자 하였다. 특히 충의(忠義)라는 인격을 지닌 안진경(顏真卿)을 ‘서통종(書統宗)’으로 추앙하고 그에게 윤리적 의미를 부여하였다.

The calligraphy theory of the Yuan Dynasty generally inherited the legacy of the Song Dynasty, especially the orthodoxy of the Neo-Confucianism represented by Zhu Xi in the Southern Song Dynasty. Zheng Jin was a calligraphy theorist in the Yuan Dynasty. His calligraphy theory work "Yanji" expressed his calligraphy aesthetics and calligraphy appreciation thoughts. However, because the original text of "Yanji" is very brief, Liu Youding made an annotation for it. The original text and annotations are combined and called "Yanji Bingzhu". The question of this article is what influence did the Confucian ethics have on the theory of calligraphy in the Yuan Dynasty, especially on Yanji. Regarding this issue, the author advocates that "Yan Ji Bing Zhu" should be investigated in the overall cultural environment and philosophical trend of the Yuan Dynasty, and the calligraphy theory should be examined from the perspective of Confucianism to explain. This paper investigates and analyzes the calligraphic thought contained in "Yanji Bingzhu" and the Confucian calligraphy view embodied in it. Firstly, it discusses the literary and artistic background of the formation of the ethical calligraphy view in "Yan Ji Bing Zhu", and understands the ideological basis that mainly influenced the theoretical views of calligraphy in the Yuan Dynasty at that time. Secondly, through the analysis of the text of "Yanji Bingzhu", we can examine the characteristics of the calligraphy view influenced by Confucianism. Starting from the concept of "Zhong zhi zhi(中之至)", it highlights its theoretical source of Confucianism, and emphasizes the aesthetic ideal of calligraphy with impartiality. The mainstream of calligraphy thoughts in the Yuan Dynasty was "returning to the past". Under the fashion of respecting the ancient methods of the Jin and Tang Dynasties, the importance of "fadu" in calligraphy was highlighted. "Fa" was endowed by Zheng with the meaning of "reason" of heaven and earth, and it exists in people's hearts. Only when the mind is right can the Dharma exist, and further emphasis is placed on the personification of calligraphy. Zheng Jin sorted out the orthodox characters in the history of calligraphy by imitating the "orthodoxy" of Confucianism, and intended to set up an orthodox model and a "middle" standard for later generations of calligraphy. In particular, Yan Zhenqing, who has a loyal personality, is respected as the "shutongzong", which highlights its ethical meaning. This article mainly uses the method of text interpretation and conceptual analysis to sort out and interpret the parts related to Confucian ethics in "Yan Ji Bing Zhu". In order to examine the influence of Confucian ethics on calligraphy theory in Yuan Dynasty.
