초록

(연구배경 및 목적) 중국 다문화 사회의 중요한 구성 요소인 묘족은 독특한 전통 문양을 통해 민족 고유의 전통과 가치관을 담아내며, 그들의 삶과 사회에 대한 풍부한 역사를 기록하고 있다. 묘족은 중국에서 가장 인구가 많은 소수민족 중 하나로, 오랜 역사와 고유문화를 바탕으로 중국 문화에서 중요한 위치를 차지하며, 독특한 전통과 생활방식을 계승하고 있다. 특히, 문자 체계가없던 시기에는 생활 속 문양이 민족 정체성을 전달하는 중요한 문화적 매개체 역할을 했다. 이러한 문양은 단순한 장식을 넘어서묘족의 정신세계와 세계관, 그리고 삶과 자연에 대한 독창적 이해와 가치관을 깊이 반영한다. 본 연구는 묘족 의복 문양의 주요특성과 구성 규칙을 체계적으로 규명하고, 이를 통해 묘족 문화가 지닌 상징적 의미와 미적 가치를 심층 분석하는 것을 목적으로한다. 또한, 이러한 분석이 현대 디자인과 문화 계승에 어떠한 시사점을 제공하는지 탐구하고자 한다. (연구방법) 본 연구는 중국귀주성 내 묘족 인구 밀집 지역에 한정하였다. 선행연구를 바탕으로 이론적 배경을 제시하고, 체계적 문헌 연구와 현장 사례 분석을 병행하였다. 이를 통해 묘족 의복 문양에 담긴 문화적 의미와 상징성, 문양 구성 형태 간 상호 관계를 규명하고, 의복 문화의 지속 가능한 계승과 발전을 위한 연구 자료를 제공하고자 한다. 특히, 다양한 문양이 민족 정체성과 미적 이념을 어떻게 구현하는지 다각도로 접근하였다. (결과) 사례 분석 결과, 묘족 의복의 문양은 동물, 식물, 기하학적 문양으로 구분된다. 구성 형식 측면에서는 개별 문양을 중심으로 민족성, 상징성, 문화성, 장식성, 종교성의 다섯 항목으로 분류할 수 있다. 향후 귀주 지역에서 사용되는 복식 문양의 각 용어가 지닌 의미를 명확하게 전달하기 위해, 의복 항목에 대한 체계를 보완할 필요가 있다. 결론에서 명확한 분석이 요구된다. (결론) 연구 결과는 묘족 의복 문양의 특성이 상징성, 문화성, 민족성, 장식성, 종교성 등으로 나타나며, 이는 묘족이 자연, 생명, 조상에 대한 독특한 이해와 경외를 표현하고 있음을 보여준다. 단독 문양, 연속 문양, 적합 문양 등의 구성 형식은 전체적인 효과와 시각적 감각에 영향을 미치며, 묘족 의복 문화의 미적 이념과 예술적 표현 방식을 나타낸다. 이는 묘족 문화의 풍부한 독창성을 반영하며, 깊이 있는 연구는 문화 전승과 현대적 혁신에 기여하고 향후 지속적인 미래 텍스타일디자인을 위한 묘족 문화의 발전을 촉진하는 데 도움이 되기를 바란다.

(Background and Purpose) As an important component of China’s multicultural society, the Miao ethnic group expresses its unique traditions and values through distinctive traditional patterns which record the rich history of their life and society.
The Miao are one of the largest ethnic minorities in China, holding a significant position in Chinese culture based on their long history and unique culture, and they continue to inherit their distinctive traditions and ways of life. Particularly during the period when they lacked a writing system, the patterns found in daily life served as important cultural media conveying ethnic identity. These patterns go beyond mere decoration, deeply reflecting the Miao’s spiritual worldview, and their original understanding of and values regarding life and nature. This study aims to systematically identify the main characteristics and compositional rules of the Miao clothing patterns and conduct an in-depth analysis of their symbolic meanings and aesthetic values. It also seeks to explore the implications of such an analysis for the contemporary design and preservation of cultural heritage. (Method) This study is limited to areas within the Guizhou Province, China, where the Miao population is densely concentrated. Based on prior research, the theoretical background was established, combining systematic literature review and field case analysis. Through these methods, the study aims to understand the cultural meanings and symbolism embedded in Miao clothing patterns, as well as the interrelationships among the compositional forms of the patterns, providing research data for the sustainable inheritance and development of clothing culture. In particular, the study employs multiple perspectives to explore how various patterns reflect ethnic identity and aesthetic ideals. (Results) The case analysis revealed that Miao clothing patterns can be broadly classified into animal, plant, and geometric motifs, each carrying unique symbolism and meaning within the Miao culture. Regarding compositional forms, individual patterns were categorized into five main aspects: ethnicity, symbolism, cultural significance, decoration, and religiosity. This suggests that Miao clothing patterns function as complex cultural codes reflecting not only decoration but also ethnic identity and spiritual worldview. Additionally, fieldwork and literature review identified unclear usage and meanings in various terms related to clothing patterns in Guizhou, highlighting the need to clarify and standardize the classification system for these patterns. (Conclusions) The results show that the characteristics of Miao clothing patterns represent aspects such as symbolism, cultural significance, ethnicity, decoration, and religiosity, demonstrating the Miao people's unique understanding of and reverence for nature, life, and their ancestors. The compositional forms, including individual patterns, continuous patterns, and suitable patterns, influence the overall effect and visual perception, representing the aesthetic ideals and artistic expression of the Miao clothing culture. This reflects the rich originality of the Miao culture, and in-depth research is expected to contribute to cultural transmission and contemporary innovation, ultimately helping to promote the sustainable development of the Miao culture for future textile design.
