『咸州誌』 孝行說話의 유형과 지향가치 (The Types and Intended Values of Filial Behavior Tales in the Hamjuji)

초록

『함주지』는 1587년 완성된 함주(함안) 지방의 사찬읍지이다.
『함주지』 본문 40개 항목 중 <善行>과 <見行>에 23편의 효행설화가수록되어 있다.
『함주지』 효행설화는 효의 행위를 기준으로 할 때 극단적 효행설화와일상적 효행설화로 나누어진다. 극단적 효행설화는 23편 중 9편이며 斷 指밖에 없다. 기본적인 서사구조로 이루어져 있으며 효행 주체 행위에집중되어 있다. 한편 일상적 효행설화는 23편 중 15편이며 부모 생전의효보다는 부모 사후의 효가 주를 이룬다. 『함주지』 효행설화는 전통적인효와는 달리 지나치게 육신을 훼손하는 행위나 신이하거나 주술적인 요소는 배제하고 있다. 이는 편찬자의 정치적 의도가 반영되었기에 가능하며, 극단적 효행설화와 일상적 효행설화의 전승 문법이 같으면서도 다르게 나타나는 이유도 여기에 있다.
함주를 인의도덕의 장소로 만들기 위해 효행설화를 편집하는 과정에서 한강과 재지사족이 지향하는 가치가 세 가지 반영되었다. 첫째, 효행설화를 통해 안민선속의 전범을 제시하고 교화의 근본으로 삼고자 했다.
둘째, 효행설화에 환상성을 배제시키고 유교적 예제만을 부각시켜 효행설화를 통해 올바른 예도가 전파되고 확산되길 바랐다. 셋째, 효행설화를 통해 교화 차원의 사회적 규범을 정립시키고자 했다. 『함주지』의 집필자인 한강과 재지사족은 예를 바탕으로 한 자발적인 사회적 규범이바탕이 될 때 근본이 바로 서고 풍속이 교화될 수 있다고 보았다.

영어초록

The Hamjuji offers records of Sachan-eup in the Hamju (Haman) area and was completed in 1587. Its body contains 40 items and 23 filial behavior tales under the items of Good Deeds and Wise Deeds.
In the Hamjuji, the filial behavior tales are divided into extreme and ordinary according to the criterion of filial behavior. Of the 23 tales, nine tell extreme filial behavior stories, and all nine involve severing a finger. They are formed in a basic narrative structure and focus on acts by the subjects of filial behavior. Of the 23 tales, 15 tell ordinary filial behavior stories; however, most focus on filial duty after the death of parents rather than filial duty before their death.
In the Hamjuji, the filial behavior tales exclude acts causing excessive damage to the body or strange and shamanistic elements different from traditional filial duty, which was possible as the compilers reflected their political intentions. It also explains why extreme and ordinary filial behavior tales have different transmissions of grammar as well as the same.
Trying to depict the Hamju as a town of benevolence, righteousness, and morality, Hangang and the local noblemen reflected three values they were oriented toward in the editing process of the filial behavior tales: first, they wanted to propose examples of appeasing the people and suggested good customs and took them as a basis of reformation through filial behavior tales; secondly, they wished that the correct manners and customs would be transmitted and spread through filial behavior tales by excluding fantasy from such tales and highlighting only Confucian examples; finally, they intended to establish social norms at the level of reformation through the filial behavior tales. Hangang and local noblemen, the compilers of Hamjuji, believed that social norms were based on manners only when there were voluntary, so society would have the correct basis in place and reform people's customs.
