한국과 중국 조선족의부채춤 비교 연구 －춤사위와 미적 지향을 중심으로－ (A Comparative Study of Buchae-Chum between Koreans and Ethnic Koreans living in China －Focusing on dance movements and aesthetic orientation－)

초록

이 글은 한국과 중국 조선족의 부채춤 창작 배경과 ‘공적 소비’의 양상을 살펴보고, 미적 지향과 춤사위를 비교, 검토한 것이다. 이를 통해 한국과 중국 조선족의 부채춤이 접부채를 활용하여 ‘인간 삶의 화려하고 밝은 이미지와 그 미래상’을 표현한다는 공통점을 지니고 있지만, 미적 지향과 춤사위는 사회문화적 배경과 전승맥락의 차이에 따라 다르다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
한국의 부채춤은 1950년대 이후 ‘한국의 전통적 이미지’로 포장된 외교, 홍보 상품으로서 주로 소비되었으며 이를 통해 사실은 전통춤이 아니면서도 ‘가장 대중적인 전통춤’의 이미지를 축적해 나가게 된다. 그 결과 한국의 부채춤은 2014년에 춤꾼 ‘김백봉－안병주’의 전승계보를 바탕으로 평안남도 무형문화재 제3호[개인종목]로 지정되었고, 부채춤에 포함된 상징적 의미는 정형성을 띠면서 고착화되고 있다. 상황이 이렇다보니, 한국 부채춤은 완곡선형 춤사위와 절제미, 정중동(靜中動), 동중정(動中靜)의 미 등 한국 전통춤이 지닌 미의 기준으로부터 완전히 자유로울 수 없게 되었다. 또한 김백봉류 부채춤이 정전(正典)의 지위를 확보하게 됨으로써 일반 춤꾼과 대중들이 추는 부채춤은 김백봉류 부채춤의 다른 버전(version) 또는 정전을 왜곡, 변형한 것으로 간주되는 경향이 나타나게 되었다.
이와 달리 중국에서는 춤꾼과 예술행위[춤사위] 자체만을 주목하지 않고, 작품에 담긴 사상과 그것이 지닌 사회적 관계성을 더 중요하게 여기고 있다. 조선족은 소수민족을 포괄하는 국가 사회주의 정책의 실천 과정 속에서 혁명적 낭만주의를 기반으로 하여 다양한 부채춤을 창작하였다. 조선족이 창작한 부채춤은 중국 사회주의 지배이데올로기의 틀 속에서 소수민족으로서의 정체성을 일정하게 드러내는 범주 속에서 전승되었다. 이에 따라 조선족의 부채춤은 사회주의 리얼리즘에 부합되는 활기차고 명료한 춤사위를 통해 이상적인 인민의 상(像)을 제시하였고 이를 효과적으로 표현하기 위해 직선의 움직임도 적극 활용하였다. 결국 조선족의 부채춤은 국가가 예술을 지배의 관철과 유지를 위한 문화적, 이데올로기적 수단으로 이용하는 정치적 맥락 속에서 전승된 것이라고 볼 수 있다.

영어초록

Studies on Buchae-Chum have, so far, covered the dance itself, transmission and preservation of dance, and the application of Buchae-Chum and most of them except the studies on the application have focused on the Kim Baek-Bong’s dance movement. It raises a need for studies on the background of the formation of dances that have hardly been noticed so far and social consumption, aesthetic orientation of dance, and on the Buchae-Chum in other areas that has been created and transmitted by those of the same ethnicity in order to properly clarify the true nature of Buchae-Chum that has rooted as one of the major genres of our traditional dance under the circumstance that attention is paid to some specific dancers in specific areas. Against this background, this study aims to examine the background of creating and performing Buchae-Chum among ethnic Koreans living in China as well as the aspect of ‘public consumption’ and to make a comparative analysis with focus on aesthetic orientation and dance movements, thereby contributing to further promoting the understanding of the diversity and artistry of Buchae-Chum that has long been created and transmitted by the Korean people.
The study has found that the Buchae-Chums of Koreans and ethnic Koreans in China have things in common, one of which is to express the ‘splendid and bright image of human life and its future vision’ with the use of folding fans although some differences remain in terms of aesthetic orientation and dance movements in association with the socio-cultural background and difference of in transmission context. The Buchae-Chum of Korea has been consumed mostly as a diplomatic and promotional product packaged with the Korean traditional image since the 1950s, which has led to building the image of ‘the most popular traditional dance’ although it does not belong to the category of traditional dance.
As a result, the Buchae-Chum of Korea was designated as the Ibuk 5 do Intangible Cultural Property No.3[Individual Item] based on the genealogy of “Kim Baek-bong-Ahn Byeong-ju” dancer in 2014 and the symbolic meaning included in Buchae- And is fixed. From this point of view, the Korean Buchae-Chum is a Korean traditional dancing dance, which is based on the beauty of the Korean traditional dance, such as the simple linear dance that matches the antiquity of royal court dresses, and the beauty of Jungjemmi, Jungjungdong and Dongjungjeong cannotbe completely free. Also, since Buchae-Chum secured the status of canonicalization, Buchae-Chum, which the general dancers and the public perceive, tends to be regarded as a different version of the Buchae-Chum.
In contract, China places higher priorities on the ideas and philosophies embedded in the works of art and the associated social relationships instead of focusing only on the dancers and the artistic acts (dance movements). The ethnic Koreans living in China have created a variety of Buchae-Chums based on the revolutionary romanticism in the midst of national socialist policy that encompasses ethnic minorities. The Buchae-Chum created by the ethnic Koreans in China was handed down to next generations within the framework of the ideology dominated by the Chinese socialism to the extent of modestly revealing its identity as one of the minorities. In this vein, the Buchae-Chum of the ethnic Koreans in China presented an ideal image of regular people through reinvigorated and indisputable dance movements aligned with the socialist realism and made the most of straight line movement to express it in an effective manner. All in all, the Buchae-Chum of the ethnic Koreans in China can be regarded to have been passed down within the political context in which the state uses art as a cultural and ideological means to justify and maintain its governance.
