장족(壯族) 전통의상을 활용한 21C 패션디자인 개발연구 (A Study on the Development of 21st Century Fashion Design,)

초록

중국 장족(壯族)은 진한(秦漢)시대(기원전 206년)부터 오늘날까지 약 1800년의 역사를 지니고 있으며, 그중 장족(壯族) 의상은 지리적 환경, 풍속, 종교 등을 통한 생산방식과 생활습관에서 선명한 색채와 정교하고 독특하고 수공예적인 특징을 형성, 유지하며 오랜 역사를 거치면서 보존되어 왔다. 그러나 급격히 현대화가 되고 있는 21C 생활 방식의 변화와 글로벌 패션디자인 시장의 강력한 유입을 통하여 중국내에서도 현대화된 의상 구매에 대한 욕구가 확산되고 있다. 이러한 점에서 장족 의상의 보수적이고 복잡하며 유유자적한 전통성은 다양한 여가생활을 원하는 현대인의 요구(니즈: Needs)를 충족시키기에 현실적으로 괴리감을 보이고 있다. 오늘날 장족 의상은 여행객들이 눈으로 보거나 사진으로 남기는 등 현지에서 한번 대여해서 입어보는 관광용 의상으로 전락하는 듯하다. 본 논문의 목적은 전통적인 장족 의상의 아름다움을 고찰하고 전통문양을 활용하여 현대적인 패션디자인으로 승화하고자 하는 것이다.
논문의 연구 과정에서 장족 의상의 역사, 스타일, 문양, 색채, 소재 등 특징을 고찰하고 장족 의상 문화의 고유함을 발견하며, 의미를 제고하고자 한다. 어떻게 하면 현대의상으로써 장족 의상의 민속적, 전통적 장점을 계승·승화하고 보급할 것인가라는 문제로 출발하며, 본 논문의 디자인 개발을 통해 적극적인 제안을 해보았다. 장족 민족 전통의상에서 추출된 다양한 문양들은 기성복 제작을 중심으로 하여 의상 및 문양디자인으로 진행해보았다. 현대적으로 개량된 장족 의상을 개발하여 현시대의 시장수요를 창출ㆍ확산시켜보고자 기획ㆍ구상을 하였다. 연구자의 장족 문양 디자인의 주요 컨셉(Concept)은 22-35세의 젊은 여성을 대상으로 한 것이다. 장족 전통 민속의상에서 추출된 문양 중에서 장금(壯錦) 문양 속에 존재하는 태양문양, 기하학적 깃털 무늬를 주로 선정하였고, ‘왕금’이라는 주제를 중심으로 원피스, 스키니, 망토 등 약 9종의 패션디자인을 제안하였다. 문양 본연의 고유한 조형 가치도 보존하고 현대화된 스타일과 문양을 융합하여 매력적인 패션디자인을 시도하였으며, 전통 장족 의상의 경직된 이미지에서 탈피하여 기능적, 심미적, 혁신적인 형태 등 다양한 면에서 만족할 만한 디자인을 제작해 보았다.
21C 패션디자인에 장족의 전통문양 적용은 전통문양의 발굴과 활용, 더 나아가 계승이라는 의의로 확장될 수 있다고 전망한다. 새로운 중국의 현대화된 디자인을 통하여 독창적인 의상 문화를 형성함으로써 전통 문화의 보존과 발전을 도모하며 국제화로의 성장 가능성을 진단해 보고자 하였다.

영어초록

The traditions of the Zhuang people in China have been passed down for about 1,800 years from the period of Jin and Han (206 BC) to the present day, and their costumes have been also preserved for a long time, all while developing and maintaining their vivid colors and unique and exquisite handicraft features, as shown in their geographical environments, customs, religions, production methods, and lifestyles. However, desires to purchase modernized costumes are expanding in China due to the rapid modernization of the 21st century lifestyles and the massive influx of the global fashion market. The conservative, complicated, and leisurely traditions of the Zhuang people’s costumes are not realistically enough to satisfy the needs of the contemporary people who are pursuing diverse leisure lives. The costumes of the Zhuang people seem to have lost their previous positions as they are regarded these days as tourist costumes that tourists simply see through their own eyes, take pictures of, or rent to wear just once on the spot. This dissertation reviews the beauty of the traditional costumes of the Zhuang people carefully and utilizes their traditional designs to sublimate them into modern fashion designs.
In other words, this dissertation thoroughly explores the features of the Zhuang people’s costumes as displayed in their history, styles, patterns, colors, materials, etc., and aims to elevate the uniqueness and meaning of the culture of the Zhuang people’s costumes. How is it possible to inherit, sublimate, and disseminate the traditional and folklore competitive edges of the Zhuang people’s costumes as contemporary costumes? That is the most immediate task in the present day, and this dissertation makes active proposals by developing designs. In particular, the various designs and patterns extracted from the traditional costumes of the Zhuang people are presented mainly in the ready-to-wear costumes. The ultimate goal is to create and spread the market demands of the modern era by developing modernized costumes of the Zhuang people. The main target group of the researcher’s concept for the designs and patterns of the Zhuang People is young women aged 22-35 years. The sun and the geometric feather patterns present in the silk patterns of the Zhuang people are mainly selected among the patterns extracted from the traditional folklore costumes of the Zhuang people, and about nine fashion designs, including one-piece, skinny, cloak, etc., are presented under the theme of ‘King’s Silk’. The fashion designs, combining the modernized styles and patterns while preserving the inherent and unique formative values of the patterns, are satisfactorily attempted in various ways in terms of function, aesthetics, and innovation, eliminating rigid images of the traditional costumes of the Zhuang people.
The application of the traditional patterns of the Zhuang people to 21st century fashion design can extend its meaning to the extent of excavation, utilization, and furthermore, succession of the traditional designs. By forming a unique costume culture through the modernized designs of present-day China, this study intends to promote the preservation and development of traditional culture and explore the potential growth for internationalization.
