인식양상 조동사 부정형식의 변천과정 연구- 근대중국어시기에서 민국시기를 중심으로 (A Study on the Evolution Process of the negative form of the epistemic modal auxiliary verb: Focusing on the after Early Modern Chinese)

초록

본 연구에서는 근대중국어시기에서 민국시기까지 23종에 출현하는 인식양상 조동사 부정형식 ‘不能, 不得, 不可, 不会’을 변별기준에 따라 통사적 기능과의미적 기능으로 분류하고, 중국어 인식양상 조동사 부정형식의 통시적 체계에 대해서 살펴보고자 하였다. 또한, 현대중국어로 변천하는 과정 중에 출현하는 중국어 인식양상에 존재하는 비대칭 현상과 그 원인에 대해서도 규명해보고자 하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 통시적으로 ‘不能, 不得, 不可, 不会’는 조건절이나 추측의 의미를 나타내는 판단류 동사와 함께 출현하거나 양상부사, 시간부사 등과 다양하게 공기하여 화자의 주관적 입장 및 견해를 두드러지게 제시하고 있다. 인식양상 하위범주의 ‘확신성-개연성-가능성’ 단계를 표현하는 경우, 부정형식은 ‘가능성’ 단계를 기준으로 ‘확신성’이나 ‘개연성’의 기능을 담당하는 양상부사와 함께 사용하여 나타낸 것으로 보인다.
둘째, 동적양상(능력) 범주에서 ‘不能, 不得, 不可, 不会’는 행위자(주어)의 내부적 조건으로 사용되다가 ‘지형, 날씨, 전쟁, 제도’ 등의 외부적 상황에 따른객관적 조건과 ‘과학적 상식, 세상의 절대적 이치와 자연의 섭리’ 등의 객관적조건으로도 사용되며, 이러한 객관적 조건은 화자의 사회적 조건과 주관적 조건까지 확대되며 발전한다.
셋째, ‘不能, 不得, 不可, 不会’는 역사적 흐름에 따른 변천과정을 겪으며 각자의 기능을 담당하게 된다. 역사적 변천과정에서 ‘不会’는 ‘다의성과 중의성’, ‘인식양상 조동사의 초기 출현형식과 발전 패턴’, ‘층위화·전문화·주관화 현상’의문법적 원리에 영향을 받아 현대중국어시기 대표 인식양상 조동사 부정형식으로 담당하게 된다.

영어초록

According to the criteria for discrimination, this study classified ‘不能(buneng), 不得(bude), 不可(buke), 不会(buhui) that appear in 23 types of literature from the early modern Chinese period to the Republic of China Period into syntactic and semantic functions and examined the overall system of the negative form of the epistemic modal auxiliary verb. In addition, the asymmetry phenomenon of the epistemic modal auxiliary verb and their causes were studied diachronically.
First, syntactic functions(personality of subject, combination with adverbs, characteristics of predicates, corresponding expression) and semantic functions (meaning conditions of subject and predicate, event occurrence, semantic orientation, speaker's intention, influence on listener, degree of subjectivity, and forcibleness) were set as criteria for discrimination of the epistemic modal 'buneng, bude, buke, and buhui'.
Second, 'buneng, bude, buke, buhui' appears in Conditionals or with the meaning of the guess and They present the speaker's subjective view in combination with a modality adverb and a time adverb. In the case of expressing 'certainty-probability-possibility' in the subcategory of the epistemic modal, the negative form seems to have been used with a pattern adverb representing the meaning of 'certainty' or 'probability'.
Third, in the dynamic modality category, 'buneng, bude, buke, buhui' is used as an internal condition for the agent, and it is also used as an objective condition according to external circumstances such as 'geography, weather, war, and institution' and as an objective condition such as 'scientific common sense, the principles of nature', and these objective conditions extend and develop to the speaker's social and subjective conditions.
Fourth, 'buneng, bude, buke, and buhui' are in charge of their respective functions.
Influenced by the grammatical principles of 'polysemy and semantic ambiguity', 'the early appearance form and development pattern of the epistemic modal', and 'layering, specialization, subjectivization', 'buhui' becomes the representative of the negative form of the epistemic modal auxiliary verb in the modern Chinese language period.
