홍경래난에 대한 조선조 문인의 인식과 글쓰기 양상 고찰 (Perceptions and Writing Patterns of Literati in the Chosŏn Dynasty on the Hong Gyeong-rae Rebellion)

초록

조선 후기 순조 11년(1811)에 일어난 홍경래난에 대해 각 사회구성원들은 자신들이 사용할 수 있는 가장 효과적인 방법을 동원해서 이슈를 전달하고 의견을 개진했으며 그것을 기록으로 남겼다. 구체적 사실 관계를 입증해야하는 학문 분야에서는 이러한 기록들을 홍경래 난을 분석하는 역사적 자료로써 인식했으며, 그것들이 다양한 글쓰기의 형태로 표출되고 있음에도 불구하고 난과 관련한 모든 글쓰기가 ‘홍경래난 사료’라는 통칭 아래 놓여져 있게 되었다. 지금까지의 연구가 역사 속에서 홍경래난이 갖는 실체와 영향력을 찾으려는 시도였다면, 앞으로는 당대 사회에서 홍경래난이 어떻게 받아들여졌고 어떤 방식으로 그 인식을 표현했는지를 밝힐 필요가 있다. 말하자면 당대인들이 기록이라는 측면의 글쓰기, 그와 동시에 문학적 글쓰기를 통해 자신의 감정을 표출하고 멀리 떨어진 곳에서 발발한 홍경래난에 대해 자신들이 할 수 있는 방식으로 접근하려 시도한 부분을 포착하려는 것이다. 한국고전종합DB의 자료 조사를 통해 당대와 이후의 조선 문인들이 가졌던 홍경래난에 대한 인식과 그것을 투영한 글쓰기를 표출한 방식에 대해 고찰하고 그 양상을 살펴 과연 그들이 보편적ㆍ시대적 상식을 공유했는지를 고찰하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 상식 공유의 당위성을 확보하기 위해 난에 직접 참여하지 않았던 당대 각지의 문인들이 정보를 전달받을 수 있었던 경로가 조보(朝報)였다는 논지를 전제하였으며, 이렇게 얻은 정보를 각자 어떠한 양식과 관점에서 서술했는지를 조사하였다. 이 연구는 홍경래난이라는 역사적 사건을 접한 근대 이전의 조선 지식층이 인식 체계를 구성하는 과정과 글쓰기로써 표현하는 방식을 분석하는데 긴요한 작업이 될 것이다.

영어초록

The Hong Gyeong-rae rebellion, which took place in the 11th year of King Sunjo (1811) of the late Chosŏn Dynasty, was an event that shocked the people of the time and beyond in many ways. Each member of society used the most effective methods possible to convey issues, express opinions, and record them. The ability to reconstruct the scale, progression, composition of command, suppression process, and outcomes of the rebellion is driven by the records left by those who directly experienced it. In this field of study, where facts must be sustained, these records were recognized as historical data to analyze the Hong Gyeong-rae rebellion, and even though they were expressed in various forms of writing, all writing related to the rebellion was placed under the collective name "Hong Gyeong-rae Nan historical records." Suppose the research has been an attempt to find the substance and influence of Hong Gyeong-rae's rebellion in history. In that case, it entails revealing how contemporary writers sought to convey their sentiments through literary expressions while documenting the rebellion. In essence, the objective is to capture the aspect where contemporary writers attempted to express their emotions through literary writing while documenting historical records. This approach enables a more accessible exploration of the Hong Gyeong-rae rebellion, which occurred in a distant location, in a manner accessible to contemporary audiences.
This study examines the perceptions of the Hong Gyeong-rae rebellion of Chosŏn writers at the time and later through the data survey of the Korean classical comprehensive database, focusing on how writers expressed their perspectives on the rebellion and analyzing whether they shared universal and temporally specific understandings.
In order to secure the legitimacy of sharing common sense, it was assumed that writers from all over the time who did not directly participate in the rebellion could receive information was Jo-bo(朝報). It was investigated from what style and perspective each of the information obtained in this way was described. This study represents a significant endeavor by analyzing the process of constructing the recognition system and how Chosŏn intellectuals before the modern era expressed their encounter with the historical event of the Hong Gyeong-rae rebellion through writing.
