현대시조의 형식ㆍ총체성과 다원주의 (The Formality and Totality of Contemporary Sijo and Pluralism)

초록

이 논문은 현대시조의 형식ㆍ총체성에 대한 다원주의 관점의 연구이다. 우리 사회가 다원화 구조의 사회로 전환하면서 단일한 시각의 연구방법의 적용으로는 어떠한 연구도 힘들게 되었다. 이미 서양예술사회는 일찍이 다원주의적 예술체험을 갖게 되었고, 단토가 뒤샹의 <샘>이나, 워홀의 <브릴로 상자>에서 보여주는 일상적인 것과 예술작품의 지각적 식별 불가능성의 함의는 오늘날의 현대시조와 현대시가 겪고 있는 현상과 유사성을 갖는다.
외적 표지가 사라진 현존하는 ‘현대시조’와 ‘현대시’의 지각경계의 모호성에 의한 현대시조의 시화(詩化)현상은 현대시조의 존립자체를 모호하게 만들었고, 이는 ‘현대시’와의 지각적 동일성이 존재의 동일성으로 비화되고, 철학적 사유 없이는 “현대시조란 무엇인가?”라는 물음에 대한 근본적 물음에는 답할 수가 없게 되었다.
본고는 이러한 물음에 대한 해결책으로 세 방향에서 고찰한다. 첫째, 현대시조는 ‘시조성 대 현대성’이라는 대립과 갈등의 이항대립적 현대시조 연구경향에서 벗어나, 시조 그 자체이기 위한 무규정적 형식의 정립을 요청한다. 둘째, 정형성과 현대성을 포섭하는 현대시조라는 생명체의 총체성을 결정짓는 요소를 시조성으로 규정하고 탐색작업을 수행한다. 셋째, 현대라는 특수성이 만들어 낸 다원화된 현대예술사회에 대한 인식이 필요하다. 다원성 및 개성화로 인한 난해성이 유행처럼 퍼져 있고, 단토의 예술의 종말이 주는 시사점은 해석과 동일시에 의해 무엇이든지 예술이 될 수 있다는 것이다. 현대시조가 처한 시ㆍ공간적 상황이 다원주의적 조망을 요청한다.
예술과 일상적인 것들의 지각적 식별 불가능성은 오늘날의 다원화된 예술사회의 키워드가 되었다. 단토의 표현대로 다원주의 상황이 도래한 것이다. 따라서 본고는 현대시조의 정체성을 모든 형식이 우리의 것이 될 수 있다는 다원주의적 시각에서 조망하대, 현대시조가 가지는 보편성은 그 자체로 내적 필연성을 가지는 것임을 밝히고자 하였다. 현대시조는 우리 시대를 특징짓는 하나의 형식에 속하며, ‘무규정적 형식’이라는 다원주의적 세계관에 근거하고 있음이다. 그와 동시에 총체성을 결정짓는 시조성은 보편성과 특수성을 획득할 것이며, 현대시조는 모더니즘을 넘어서 다원주의 시대로, 단토의 표현을 차용하자면 ‘예술의 종말 이후’의 시대를 맞이하게 될 것이다.

영어초록

The formality and totality of contemporary sijo was reviewed from the pluralistic view in this study. As the society gets increasingly diversified, it becomes harder to apply the research approaches on single perspective. The Western arts have already gone through pluralistic art experiences. The undertone in the indiscernibility between art and the commonplace in the <Fontaine> of Marcel Duchamp and <Brillo Box> of Andy Warhol and artworks pointed out by Arthur Danto resembles the current status of contemporary sijo and poem.
The ambiguity in the differences between ‘contemporary sijo’ and ‘contemporary poem' caused by the disappearance of exterior indications led to make the contemporary sijo resemble poem and threaten the identity of sijo. The perceptual equality between sijo and poem led to the equality in existences and threw the fundamental question of “What forms the true identity of contemporary sijo?” which cannot be answered without philosophical thoughts.
This study aims to resolve this question through three different approaches. First, the dichotomous research perspective based on the confrontation between ‘characters of sijo' and ‘modernity' should be avoided to establish the undefined formality about the contemporary sijo. Second, the totality of sijo incorporating the formality and modernity shall be defined as the characters of sijo and should be researched further. Third, the diversified contemporary artistic society which was built on the special characteristics of modern times should be recognized. As the abstruseness is widely spread because of the diversity and individualism, ‘After The End of Art’ written by Danto suggested that anything can become an artwork as soon as it is construed. The spatio-temporal situations for contemporary sijo require the pluralistic perspective.
The indiscernibility between art and the commonplace become crucial in the modern pluralistic art society. As Danto pointed out, the pluralistic era finally came. Therefore, this study aims to examine the identity of contemporary sijo from the pluralistic perspective that all forms can be ours that the universality of sijo has its own inner inevitability. The contemporary sijo belongs to one of many forms characterizing our era and is based on the ‘undefined formality' of pluralistic perspective. The characters of sijo as totality shall obtain its universality and speciality, the contemporary sijo will move from modernism to pluralism which was described as ‘After The End of Art' by Danto.
