현대시조 표기 방식의 다양성 연구 (A Study on the Diversity of Notation Methods used in Modern three-verse Korean Poems)

초록

이 논문은 초정 김상옥의 시조와 21세기 현대시조 표기 방식의 다양성을 살펴보고 그 수용과 배제에 대한 이해를 극대화 하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 오늘날 현대 시조는 詩作에 있어 다양한 표기 방법들이 동원되고 있다. 21세기에 이르러 이러한 표기 방식의 다양화는 현대시조인지 현대 자유시인지 조차 구별을 어렵게 하는 문제점을 노출하고 있다. 艸丁 金相沃(1920∼2004)의 시조문학에는 다양한 표기 방식들이 동원되고 있다. 艸丁의 전기 시조집 『草笛』과 『三行詩六十五篇』에 수록된 105편 중 장시조를 제외한 연시조 2～5연의 작품 70편을 포함한 全 작품 91편이 1장 1행의 단연식 장별 배행 비음보식 표기방식이다. 후기 시조집인 『향기 남은 가을』과 『느티나무의 말』의 1장 2～4행의 1～3연식의 구별 배행 표기 방식 중에서 1장 3행 3연식 구별 배행 표기는 후기 시조집 작품 87편 중 71편으로 80%이상이다. 후기 시조집의 80% 이상이 1장 3행 3연식의 구별 배행 표기 방식을 보이고 있다.
21세기 시조 표기 방식은 시적 언어들을 시각적인 이미지 속에 재구성하면서 문학성에 크게 의존하여 언어의 효율성을 극대화하고 있다. 시적 대상의 단순한 의미 부여를 초월하기 위하여 포괄적인 언어를 활용하면서 시조 형식의 정형성에서 일탈을 보이기도 한다. 21세기 현대 시조 표기의 다양성은 이러한 열린 구조 속에 시조인지 현대 자유시인지 분간을 어렵게 하는 방만하고 일탈된 표기 방식은 경계되어야 한다. 21세기 현대 시조 표기 방식은 형식적 구속을 수용하면서 내용과 형식의 긴밀한 결합을 강조하여야 할 것이다. 21세기 시조 표기 방식의 다양성을 살펴보기로 한다. 초정의 시조의 표기 방식에 관련된 6가지 중 한 가지 방법은 통합하여 5가지 방법으로 비교하여 살펴보기로 한다.

A Study on the Diversity of Notation Methods used in Modern three-verse Korean Poems

The purpose of this study is to examine the diversities of the notation methods used in three-line Korean traditional poems by Sang-ok Kim and those written in the 21st century, and to maximize the understanding of what to accept and what to decline. Today, a variety of notation methods are used in modern three-line traditional poems. These diverse methods, prevalent in the ones written in the 21st century, make it difficult to distinguish between modern three-line traditional poems and free verses. Sang-ok Kim(1920∼2004. Pen name: Chojeong) used a wide range of notation methods in his three-line traditional poems. Except for the longer three-line traditional poems among the 105 included in Kim’s earlier collections “Reed Pipes” and “A Collection of 65 Poems”, all 91 poems including the 70 poems with 2∼5 stanzas use one line per chapter and one stanza, and are non-metrical. Among the 87 poems in his later collections “The Fragrant Autumn” and “A Zelkova’s Words”, which use 2∼4 lines in one chapter and use 1∼3 stanzas as line arrangement methods, 71 poems use 3 lines in one chapter and use 3 stanzas, accounting for more than 80%. Among all of Kim’s later collections, more than 80% of the poems use 3 lines in one chapter and use 3 stanzas.


Three-line Korean traditional poems written in the 21st century maximize the linguistic efficiency by relying heavily on the literary features through recomposition of poetic expressions into visual images. These poems use comprehensive expressions and deviate from the fixed patterns of previous three-line traditional poems by using comprehensive expressions, to go further than just giving meanings to the poetic objects. In such open structures, these diverse, deviated and rather lax notation methods used in the 21st-century poems make it difficult to distinguish whether they are traditional poems or modern free verses. More care should be taken not to degenerate into such confusion. The notation methods in 21st-century three-line Korean traditional poems shall emphasize close combinations between the content and forms while adhering to the traditional rules. This study will examine the diversity of these notation methods. Of the six notation methods used in Kim’s traditional three-line poems, two shall be combined so that five methods can be compared and analyzed in this study.
