정가극(正歌劇) <영원한 사랑, 이생규장전>(2011)의 원작 변개 양상과 콘텐츠의 가치 (Aspects of Modification of the Original Work of Jeonggageuk Eternal Love, Leesaenggyujangjeon(2011)and Values of Contents)

초록

본 논문에서는 정가극 <영원한 사랑, 이생규장전>(2011)의 콘텐츠로서 희소성에 주목하면서 원작 「이생규장전」의 변개 양상 및 성격 변화, 콘텐츠의 성과와 과제 등을 살폈다.
<영원한 사랑, 이생규장전>은 원작의 큰 틀을 그대로 가져오면서도 세부적인 내용을 상당히 변개함으로써 원작과는 전혀 다른 성격을 지니게 되었다. 먼저 등장인물로 작자 김시습이 등장하여 작품 도입부를 이끌고, 작품 중반부와 후반부를 연계하였다. 그리고 이생과 최씨의 사랑이 이루어지는 공간을 무릉도원의 상징으로서 설정하였다. 이생과 최씨의 만남은 애정 전기소설에서 흔히 보이는 내밀함이 사라지고, 좀 더 경쾌하고 개방적인 성격을 지녔다. 원작에서 최씨의 절의 의식을 드러내는 수단이었던 상사병은 혼인 허락을 받으려는 최씨의 임기응변 수단으로 변모하였으며, 두 집안의 혼인 논의 역시 집안 간 자존심 대결로 좀 더 속화된 양상을 보여주었다. 홍건적의 난은 세계의 횡포로서의 상징보다는 뜻밖의 큰 사건으로서의 성격을 갖게 되었으며, 이에 따라 최씨의 죽음 역시 이생과 최씨의 애처로운 이별로서 부각되는 양상을 보여주었다. 마지막 이생과 최씨의 재회 및 이별 부분도 최씨의 절의 의식을 드러내거나 이생의 현세의 삶에 대한 전망 상실 등의 무거운 의미 대신 애틋하면서도 담담한 부부의 정과 이별을 드러내는 쪽으로 변모하였다. 이렇게 <영원>은 조선 시대 애정 전기소설의 미의식에서 탈피하여 경쾌하고 애틋한 사랑 이야기로 탈바꿈하였고, 이를 노래, 무용, 대사, 영상이 어우러진 생동감 넘치고 역동적인 종합예술 무대로 완성해 내었다. 다만 정가와 서사․소설 작품의 조화라는 장르 접합 문제는 한계로 지적할 수 있다. 그럼에도 정가와 서사․소설 작품을 적절히 접목하여 새로운 콘텐츠를 창출하려는 고민과 시도가 계속 이루어질 필요가 있다.

영어초록

This study focused on the scarcity of the Jeonggageuk Eternal Love, Leesaenggyujangjeon(2011) as a content to investigate the aspects of the modification of the original work of Leesaenggyujangjeon, changes in its characters, and the performance and mission of the content.
Eternal Love, Leesaenggyujangjeon brought the big frame of the original work as it was; however, considerably modified the details so that it came to have characters different from the original work. The first character is that the author Kim Si-seup appeared to lead the introductory part of the work and connected the middle part and latter part of the work. In addition, the space where the love between Lee Saeng and Ms. Choi worked out was set as a symbol of paradise. In the scene where Lee Saeng and Ms. Choi met, the privacy often seen in Romantic Jeon-gi Novels disappeared, and it had a more upbeat and open character. Lovesickness, which was a means to show Ms. Choi’s consciousness of fidelity in the original work, was changed into Ms. Choi’s means to adapt herself to altering conditions to ask her parents for permission, and the discussion on the marriage between the two families also showed a more secularized aspect as the confrontation of pride between the families. Honggeonjeok’s rebellion came to have a character as an unexpected big event rather than as a symbol of the tyranny of the world, and accordingly, Ms. Choi’s death also showed the aspect of standing out as a pitiable farewell between Lee Saeng and Ms. Choi. Lastly, the scenes of the reunion and parting of Lee Saeng and Ms. Choi also transformed into the direction to reveal the love and separation of the dear and calm couple, instead of heavy meaning like Ms. Choi’s consciousness of fidelity or Lee Saeng’s loss of the prospect for a life in the present. Like this, as Eternal Love, Leesaenggyujangjeon was transformed into a cheerful love story that shared the traditional/modern color, it has significance as a classical content that reinterpreted a classical literary work in a modern way and is also meaningful in that it completed a lively and dynamic comprehensive art stage where singing, dancing, lines, and images were mixed. And yet, it left the tasks that it would be necessary to be concerned about the problem of maintaining the atmosphere of Jeongga in Jeonggageuk and the issue of harmonizing Jeongga with a narrative and novel.
Eternal Love, Leesaenggyujangjeon has great values in that it established a genre of Jeonggageuk that combined Jeongga with geuk, it is the only case that embodied a classical narrative and classical novel as Jeonggageuk, and it reinterpreted a classical novel excellently from a modern perspective while not pulling down the basic perspective beneath the work.
