寒岡 鄭逑 『心經發揮』의 경학사상적 특징과 의의 (The Characteristic and Meaning of the Idea of Confucian Classics involved in Han Gang Jeong Gu's Elucidation of Sacred Scripture of Mind[心經發揮])

초록

본 논문은 조선중기 『심경』연구에 있어서 특수한 위치를 차지하고 있는 한강 정구의 『심경발휘』가 그의 경학사상 전체 체계에서 어떠한 의미를 가지고 있는가를 그 구성 형식과 내용적 특징을 분석함으로서 밝혀보고자 하였다. 정구가 『심경발휘』를 편찬할 때는 정민정의 『심경부주』 체계에 대한 불만과 함께 이를 넘어서고자 하는 목표를 가지고 있었다. 정구가 유의했던 사항은 다음과 같이 서로 연관되는 몇 가지 주제로 요약할 수 있다. 첫째, 『심경부주』에서 정민정이 주희의 만년 정론(定論)이라고 하여 강조한 존덕성 중심의 공부가 마음의 함양에 절대적인 것이 아니고 도문학과 균형을 이루어야 한다는 것을 분명히 하고자 하였다. 둘째, 존덕성과 도문학 공부는 유가적 도덕실천과 함양을 위하여 상호간 번갈아 전제가 되어 어느 한쪽도 없애거나 한쪽으로 치우쳐서는 안 되는 필수불가결한 양면 공부임을 확인하고자 하였다. 셋째, 태극과 천리를 중심으로 하는 성리학의 형이상학적 우주론으로부터 도문학의 근거를 이끌어내고자 하였다. 반면 정구의 예학은 첫째, 성리학적 형이상학을 받아들여 ‘예(禮)’의 보편성을 강조하였다. 둘째, 인사의 도덕적 실천을 위한 행동규범의 표준과 실천적 지식의 문제를 다룸으로써 도문학의 내용과 과정을 보여주고 있다. 셋째, 도문학 공부의 내용을 이루면서도 천리(天理) 뿐만 아니라 성경(誠敬)과 의(義)에 근거를 둠으로써 존덕성의 본령공부와 밀접한 연관성을 가진다. 요컨대, 정구의 예학은 도문학과 균형을 유지하면서 본령공부로서 경을 강조한 『심경발휘』에 근거하여 도문학의 구체적 내용으로서 예론을 전개하고 있다. 『심경발휘』는 그의 예학의 구체성에 의지하여 존덕성과 도문학의 균형을 유지하는 객관적 정당성을 확보하고자 한다. 정구의 경학 체계에서 『심경발휘』의 심학과 『오선생예설분류』로 대표되는 예학은 존덕성과 도문학 공부를 통일시키는 두 가지 핵심 이론으로서 불가분의 유기적 상관관계를 가지는 것으로 규정된다. 결론적으로, 정구의 『심경발휘』는 성리학의 우주론적 도덕형이상학과 도덕적 행동의 실천적 표준을 구성하는 예학 사이를 연결하는 중간 매개 역할을 하는 저술로서 경(敬)과 치지(致知)를 중심으로 하는 도문학과 존덕성을 포괄하여 마음을 함양하는 근거와 절차를 설명하는 이론적 체계라고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

This thesis intended to illuminate which meaning Han Gang Jeong Gu's XinJingFaHui[心經發揮The Elucidation of Sacred Scripture of Mind] has in the total system about his idea of Confucian Classics by analysing its format of organizing and content characteristics. When Jeong Gu would have compiled XinJingFaHui, he had adhered the purpose tried to transgress this book with dissatisfaction of Jeong Min-jung's XinJingFuZhu[心經附註The Annexed Annotation of Sacred Scripture of Mind] system. What Jeong Gu pays attention to can be summed up several subjects be connected with one another as follows. First, He desired to clarify that a study of enhance of virtue[尊德性], which Jeong Min-jung regarded as the reasonable argument of Zhu Hee's later years, is not absolute in the cultivation of mind and should keep a balance with investigation of knowledge[道問學]. The second, he intended to derived a foundation of investigation of knowledge from the metaphysical cosmology of Neo-Confucianism turned on the Great Ultimate[太極] and natural principle[天理]. In sequence, his study of propriety basically displays contents and process of investigation of knowledge by manipulating basically the criterion of conduct code and a matter of practical knowledge for moral practice of personnel affairs. Summing up, Jeong Gu's study of propriety presented primarily argument of propriety as concrete contents of investigation of knowledge on the basis of XinJingFaHui, through which he accentuated on one hand maintenance of equilibrium with investigation of knowledge, on the other hand reverence of enhance of virtue as a study of one’s characteristic. Whereas, XinJingFaHui attempts to secure objective legitimacy for maintenance of equilibrium between enhance of virtue and investigation of knowledge by depending on the concreteness of his study of propriety. From the point of view of Han Gang Jeong Gu's system of Confucian Classics, the study of mind of XinJingFaHui and thought of propriety study represented by WuXianShengLiShuoFenLei[五先生禮說分類The classification of propriety theory by five teachers] can be defined as two core theories which unify the study of enhance of virtue and investigation of knowledge and have an indivisible organic correlation. In the final analysis, Jeong Gu's Elucidation of Sacred Scripture of Mind plays a role as a bridge between cosmological moral metaphysics of Neo-Confucianism and study of propriety, which is composed of practical standards for moral action. This work embodies theory of system through which he explains a found and process of cultivation of mind by encompassing enhance of virtue and investigation of knowledge according to reverence and expansion of knowledge.
