현대시조 창작의 지향점과 그 존재 의의 (An aim of creating "Modern sijo" and a meaning of their existence -In the eyes of the beauty of form and rules of versification-)

초록

현대시조는 무엇보다 ‘현대성’과 ‘시조성’을 그 근본으로 하고 있는 장르이다. 현재 창작되고 있는 현대시조가 ‘현대성’의 측면에서는 문제될 것이 없는 반면 ‘시조성’의 측면에서는 다소 문제가 있음을 인식하여 그 문제 해결의 실마리를 고시조의 형식적 특성에서 찾아야 한다는 것이 본고의 연구 목적이다.
현대시조를 현대시조답게 하는 것은 시조라는 장르가 가지고 있는 형식적 미감이라 할 수 있을 것이다. 따라서 시조의 형식적 특성을 선행 연구에 기대어 확인하고 현대시조가 처음 등장하던 시기의 작품부터 현재의 작품까지 논의의 대상으로 삼아 현대시조의 형식적 특성, 율격적 측면, 정서적 특징을 분석하여 현대시조 독해와 이해에 해석의 단초를 마련하고자 하였다.
시조의 형식적 특성은 초장․중장․종장으로 이루어진 탄탄한 짜임과 4음보의 율격이라고 볼 수 있다. 특히, 고시조의 3장 구성은 단지 3줄로 이루어지는 것에 그치지 않고 4음보의 율격적 특성을 지닌 초장과 중장에서 전개된 시상이 종장에서 응축되는 논리적이고 안정된 형식에 기반한다는 것이다. 현대인의 사상․감정을 시조라는 형식에 담아 1906년 창작된 <혈죽가>를 필두로 하여 이후 여러 시인들에 의해 지어진 현대시조는 문학성을 담지한 빼어난 작품을 다수 발표할 수 있었다. 하지만 과거의 고시조를 답습하지 않기 위해 형식의 다양성을 실험하였으나 그 결과는 좋지 못했다. 왜냐하면 시조라는 형식적 구성에서 벗어나려 했을 때 이미 그 작품들은 시조와 현대시의 사이에서 자기의 정체성을 잃어버렸기 때문이다.
그러나 시조 형식의 다양한 시도는 자유로운 형식에 수반된 자유로운 시상 전개를 가져와 시조창작의 저변확대를 불러 다수의 현대시조작가들이 나오는 데에 큰 틀을 마련해 주었고 고시조와 구별되는 현대인들의 정서를 효과적으로 묘사해 낼 수 있는 장점을 지니게 되었다. 자연현상이나 일상의 순간의 모든 것들이 문학작품의 소재와 제재가 된다고 볼 때 현대시조는 세밀화를 보는 듯한 서경의 세계까지 담아낼 수 있게 되었다.
현대시조 시인들이 시조의 대중화라는 거대한 목표를 위해 고시조의 형식에서 벗어났을 때 우리는 현대시조와 현대시의 경계를 고심해야 했다. 시조를 현대인의 입맛에 맞게 변형할 것인가 아니면 시조가 지닌 형식적 미감의 특장을 살려 그 형식 미학에 우리의 입맛을 맞춰 갈 것인가. 단 3줄 속에 표현되는 시조 형식을 고수하는 것이 시조의 경쟁력이 되고 의의가 될 것이다.

영어초록

First of all, "Modern Sijo" are base on "modernity" and "sijosung". But there is something that we need to consider about it. What we should think is that there is nothing wrong through modernity in "Modern Sijo" but something wrong in "sijosung". Therefore, we have to think more and more about a feature of forms to find out the key that is needed when we solve above problems. And that is we are heading for.
We can say like what makes modern poems as itself is the beauty of form that poems have. So, I looked around the features of forms in previous researches, and analyzed "modern poems" into the fact that the beauty of form makes it as itself in various poems from the pioneer day until now. And focusing on "a fixed form of verse", rules of versifications and the emotion of "Modern Sijo", I tried to make foundation stones to understand and analyze "Modern Sijo".
The characteristics of "Sijo" are well organized structure that consists of "cho-jang, jung-jang and jong-jang", and the special rules of versification "4-um-bo(tetrame-ter)". Especially, the 3 phases of "ko-si-jo is not only 3 lines "cho-jang, jung-jang" and "jong-jang" but also the logical flowing that is condensed in the phases from "cho-jang"and "jung-jang to finally "jong-jang". Modern people have announced a lot of wonderful poems that have the modern people's philosophies and emotions in the way of "si-jo" from "hyul-juk-ga" written in 1906. However, the result of that tried to escape from "ko-si-jo(classic Sijo)" and tested diversity was not good. Because when it tried to escape from the structure of "Sijo", it got lost the identity of itself between "Sijo" and "Modern Sijo".
Nevertheless, it made good points. the first thing was that it draw poets to be able to think freely out of free structure, which caused the field expansion of creating poems. As a result, many modern poets have came into the world. the second was that it made poets describe modern people's emotion that was different from old one easier than before. The eyes of the fact that everything like natural phenomena and the moment of daily life in the world can be used in literary works, that we can see in "Modern Sijo" make us put description of scenery into the poems.
When we ignore the form of "ko-si-jo" for the great purpose of popularizing, we must consider the border between "Modern sijo" and "Modern Sijo". It is very important to determine how to reform "sijo"(modifying it in our tastes or keeping the special structure of "sijo"). "Just modify it in our tastes" is not good way at all. I think the best way to keep the beauty of "sijo" is to hold the form of "sijo" that describes all things about poets's emotions, our nature and whatever in just three-lines. I think that is a competition power that makes "sijo" still alive, furthermore, it will make "sijo" the representative of Corean literatures in the world.
