초록

In this article, I investigated Calvin’ viewpoint on the sermon centering on Ephesians 4: 11. Especially I attempted to show Calvin’s idea about "pastor" by the research into Calvin’s Commentaries, Institutes and Sermons. Based on this study, I tried to provide a suggestion to the Korean Churches.
For Calvin delivery of sermons is one of the most important duties in Geneva. In Calvin’s thoughts, the sermon is "de ziel van de kerk" and "de van God gegeven weg ter zaligheid." Further, Calvin’s reformation began with the sermon.
Up to now, however, the academic researches into Calvin have exclusively been focused on Calvin’s Institutes. Thus, by my paper about Calvin’s preaching with his sermons, I hope to make up for the weak pointson Calvin study. In his sermon on Ephesians, Calvin emphasized that God’s work for salvation is possible by the sermon which is preached in the Church. Thus, the task of the pastors is also significant in Calvin’s thoughts.
However, in my viewpoint, the sermons in the present Korean Church are radically biased into two extreme poles. On one hand, Korean sermons extremely concentrate on the analysis of the text.There is no application. On the other hand, it is difficult to find out sincere studies on the biblical text itself in some sermons of the Korean Churches. Therefore, when we scrutinize Calvin’s teachings about the function of the pastor and the sermons, especially from Ephesians 4: 11, we can reform the Korean Church by the reformed sermons

본 논문은 에베소서 4장 11절에 근거한 칼빈의 설교관 연구이다. 칼빈은 그의 주석, 설교 그리고 기독교 강요에서 목사(pastor)에 관하여 어떻게 정의하고 있는지를 고찰함으로 한국 교회 설교의 방향을 조명하였다. 칼빈은 그의 생애 후기에 악화된 건강으로 인해 의자에 실려 교회에 오면서 까지 설교 사역을 감당했다. 그만큼 칼빈에게 있어서 설교는 그의 최후까지 가장 비중 있는 사역이었다. 칼빈에게 있어서 설교는 교회의 영혼(de ziel van de kerk)과 같은 것이었으며 하나님으로부터 주어진 축복의 통로(de van God gegeven weg ter zaligheid)였다. 뿐만 아니라 교회의 자유와 개혁을 향한 칼빈의 투쟁은 일차적으로 설교의 자유와 개혁을 향한 투쟁이었다. 한편 칼빈의 설교에 대한 연구는 그의 대표 저작인 기독교강요 일변도로 진행되어온기존의 칼빈 연구의 약점을 보완할 수 있는 하나의 대안이 된다. 칼빈은 그의 에베소서 설교에서 교회에서 선포되는 설교가 구원의 측면에서 중요하며 따라서 목사의 직이 중차대함을강조하고 있다.
칼빈이 강조한 바와 같이 목사의 중요한 직무는 교회에서 하나님의 말씀을 설교하는 것이다. 그것을 다르게 표현하자면 하나님의 말씀인 text를 context에 선포하는 것이다. 그러나 현재의 한국 교회의 설교는 양 극단으로 경도된 바가 적지 않다. 한 극단적인 방향은 텍스트(text)의 분석과 해석에만 그치는 설교로서 적용이 없다. 또 다른 극단은 콘텍스트(context)를 배타적으로 강조하면서, text 즉 말씀에 대한 성실하고 치밀한 연구와 분석을 결여하고 있는 설교의 유형이다.
따라서 본 논문은 칼빈의 설교관에 근거한 한국 교회의 발전적인 설교 방향을 다음과 같이 제시한다. 1) 설교는 text와 context의 균형 의식이 유지되어야 한다. 2) 목사는 그의 고유 직무인 복음을 선포하는 설교를 해야 한다. 3) 목사는 설교를 통해 하나님의 통치(Regnum Dei)를 대행해야 한다. 4) 목사의 사역은 설교를 통해서 그리스도의 몸인 교회를 세우는 것이다. 5) 말씀의 선포를 통해서 성령께서는 건전하게 사역하신다. 6) 설교를 위한 주석의 단계에서 교부(와 종교개혁)의 성경 해석을 적극적으로 활용해야 한다.
