예언과 공연-에스겔서 12장 1-16절을 중심으로 살펴보는 “공연(公演)으로서의 예언” (Prophecy and Performance-Prophecy as Performance in the Book of Ezekiel)

초록

이 논문은 에스겔서 12장 1-16절을 통해서, 공연이라는 예술형식으로 하나님 말씀을 전하는 행위예언에 대해서 살피는 데 목적을 둔다. 하나님은 완악한 이스라엘 백성들로 하여금 하나님이 누구인지를 분명히 알게 하기 위해서 에스겔로 하여금 그들에게 예언하게 하시는데, 특이한 점은 공연(公演)을 통해서 예언하게 한다는 것이다.
이런 점에서 에스겔은 아방가르드, 즉 전위예술가이다. 그는 공연을 통한 예언으로 당시대 사람들에게 새로움을 보여줌으로써 그 시대정신에 강력하게 저항했다. 에스겔은 하나님이 일러준 대로 하나님 말씀을 행위예언이라는 공연을 통해서 선포함으로써, 예언과 공연이 밀접한 관련을 갖는다는 사실을 보여주었다.
에스겔은 그들에게 하나님 말씀을 들려주고 그들을 변화시키기 위해 그들을 공연에 참여케 해서 그들과 공연(共演)한다. 그런 방식을 택한 까닭은 에스겔이 공연하는 내용이 바로 그들 자신들의 현실적인 문제였기 때문이다. 그리고 여기서 우리가 기억해야 할 것은 에스겔이 공연을 하지만, 그것은 결코 재현이 아니고 앞으로 일어날 사건에 대한 선포이기에, 그 사건은 반드시 일어난다는 것이다.
에스겔은 신체적 공연이라는 행위예언을 통해 관객들로 하여금 진실을 대면하게 하고, 그들로 하여금 결단을 촉구하면서, 그들이 심판을 당하고 이방에 흩어진 다음에 하나님을 아는 새로운 삶을 살 것이라는 하나님 말씀도 전한다.
예술은 사람들에게 새로운 경험을 제공하고, 인간들은 구체적인 존재경험을 통해 인간이 된다. 이것이 바로 공연을 비롯한 예술행위들을 통해서 사람들이 소망하는 것이고, 그렇기에 에스겔과 그 시대 사람들이 행한 공연은 우리가 사는 이 시대에도 의미를 갖는다.

영어초록

The purpose of this paper is to study about the act-prophecy that a prophet delivers the Word of God by the form of art as performance in chapter 12 verses 1-16 of the Book of Ezekiel.
God called Ezekiel as his spokesman and made him to prophesy to the perverted people of Israel in order to let them know clearly who is God. Then, it is very particular that God requests to Ezekiel to prophesy by the form of performance. God names him "sign" or "symbol". It means that Ezekiel is the prophet who proclaims the message from God to the Israelites and he becomes message itself by eating the scrolls that the word of God is written and delivers that message not only by words from his mouth, but also by performance of his body. We can find that prophecy is very closely connected with performance.
On this point, Ezekiel is an avant-garde. By his performance, he resists the spirit of his age and the immoral and profane life style of his contemporaries.
Ezekiel does performance in order to deliver the word of God to the Israelites and let them repent their sins and transform to the new life. Then, he does not practice his performance by himself. He plays together with his spectators. Therefore, in his performance the separation and distance between actor and spectator is disappeared. This is the ultra modern form of performance as "participation" and "relational aesthetics." Ezekiel takes that form of coacting because the content of his performance is about the future of his spectator, that is, the Israelites. The performance of Ezekiel is not the reproduction of the past history, but the foreshadow of the horrible future of the Israelites that will occur inevitably and they cannot escape. The performance of Ezekiel will be anticipated to take their breath away and they should be horrified by that performance. But they does not show any fear or worry at least.
However, by his body performance, Ezekiel tries to let them confront the tragic truth and to urge their decision in order to escape that tragedy. He adds the divine word of hope that the Israelite will repent and be forgiven and live the new life after they are destroyed and dispersed all over the world.
Like this, art makes us to have new experience of our life and we become true human beings by this experience of being. This is the "event of being", that is the terminology of Heidegger. This is the very thing that all of us hope and anticipate through the activity of art like performance. Therefore, the old performance of Ezekiel and his contemporaries has some meaning for us today.
