‘인지서사학’으로 신약성경 서사 읽기 : 누가복음 9장 51~56절을 시험 사례로 (A Reading of the New Testament Narrative with Cognitive Narratology : Luke 9:51-56 as a Test Case)

초록

본 논문은 최근에 포스트고전서사학(post-classical narratology) 분야에서 대두되고 있는 인지서사학(Cognitive Narratology)을 신약 성경 서사 읽기에 접목한 논문이다. 인지서사학은 서사학과 인지과학(cognitive science)의 융합으로 탄생한 것으로, 특별히 인지과학의영향으로 각광 받고 있는 인지언어학(cognitive linguistics)과 여러도구들을 공유하고 있다. 인지서사학은 대개 텍스트의 특징과 독자의 해석과정 사이의 관계를 탐구하며, 서사 텍스트가 독자에게 어떻게 다가가는지, 독자는 어떤 인지과정을 통해 텍스트를 해석하고 평가하는지 등에 관심을 갖는다. 따라서 독자의 해석과정에 개입하는텍스트 외부의 담화(사회문화적 요소, 선지식)도 고려의 대상이 된다. 성경 읽기 자체는 독자의 수용과 실천을 함의한다. 따라서 서사텍스트의 특징과 독자의 해석과정 사이에 일어나는 역동적인 상호작용을 탐구하는 인지서사학은 성경 읽기 자체의 성격과 잘 어울린다고 말할 수 있다.
필자는 인지서사학을 누가복음 9장 51~56절에 접목하는 사례 연구를 통해 새로운 방법론이 가져올 수 있는 공헌을 보여주고자 한다.
이를 위해 인지서사학의 핵심 도구들인 개념적 은유(conceptual met- aphor), 프레임(frame), 이야기세계(‘Storyworld’), 영상 도식(image schema), 마음 읽기(mind-reading), 감정이입(empathy), 인지적 ‘크로노토프’(cognitive ‘Chronotope’)를 사용하여 본문을 읽는다. 그 결과, 인지서사학은 신약 성경 서사 읽기를 위한 새로운 모델로서 성경독자들의 해석적 지평을 확대시켜 줄 수 방법론임을 보여준다.

영어초록

This thesis is an application of cognitive narratology, which has recently emerged in the field of post-classical narratology, to the reading of New Testament narratives. Cognitive narratology was born from the convergence of narratology and cognitive science, and shares several tools with cognitive linguistics, which is in the limelight due to the influence of cognitive science. Cognitive narratology studies usually explores the relationship between the characteristics of text and the reader's interpretation process, and is interested in how narrative texts reach readers and through what cognitive processes readers interpret and evaluate texts. Therefore, discourses outside the text that intervene in the reader's interpretation process are also subject to consideration. The reading of the Bible itself implies the acceptance and practice of the reader. Therefore, it can be said that cognitive narratology, which explores the dynamic interaction between the characteristics of narrative texts and the reader's interpretation process, fits well with the nature of Bible reading itself.
I would like to show the contribution that the new methodology can bring through a case study applying cognitive narratology to Luke 9:51-56. To this end, we read the text using the core tools of cognitive narratology, conceptual metaphor, frame, ‘Storyworld’, image schema, mind-reading, empathy, and cognitive 'Chronotope'.
As a result, cognitive narratology, as a new model for reading the narratives of the New Testament, shows that it is a methodology that can expand the interpretive horizons of Bible readers.
