미디어 텍스트의 관계절 번역 방식 분석 (The Analysis of Translation Strategies in Relative Clauses of Media Texts)

초록

본 연구는 미디어 텍스트의 번역에서 정보성과 가독성의 균형을 맞추기 위해서 번역자가 개입해서 채택한 전략을 통사적 관점에서 논의하였다. 번역자의 전략은 번역 텍스트의 기능에 따라 달라진다. 따라서 본 연구는 자료 분석에서 서로 다른 기능을 갖고 있는 번역 텍스트를 비교함으로써 번역전략의 차이점을 고찰하였다.
분석 대상은 which가 포함된 관계절로서, 번역 방식을 기술적으로 분석하였다. 통사적 구문에서 관계절은 문장의 확장성을 유발하는 요소이기에 원문과 번역문의 문장 수의 차이, 번역문에서 선행사의 존재여부를 구체적으로 분석하였다.
분석결과 ‘제시적 번역’의 특징은 분석 대상 번역문에서 드러난 규범이 더욱 강화되었다는 것이다. 즉 번역문의 문장 수, 선행사의 번역 빈도, 원문과 번역문의 순서 변화가 더 자주 발생하였다. 그러므로 제시적 번역에서 가독성은 더 높아졌다. 그러나 충실성의 문제, 경직된 문체, 선행사의 번역으로 인한 반복의 문제 등이 제기될 수 있다.
비문학 텍스트의 번역에서는 원문의 정보 전달이 우선적으로 고려되어야 한다. 그러나 번역자의 자의적 해석으로 원문의 충실성에서 지나치게 벗어나는 것은 적절하지 못하다.
가독성을 높이기 위한 번역 전략에서 주요 특징은 반복의 문제와 시제의 문제이다. 전자의 경우, 예를 들면 가독성을 높이기 위해서 지시어나 선행사를 원래의 지칭어로 번역하는 것이다. 시사 번역에서 가장 흔히 찾아볼 수 있는 시제의 변화는 분석자료 B-4에서 드러나듯이 원문의 현재 시제를 과거 시제로 번역하는 경우이다. 이는 목표 텍스트의 규범에 따르는 것이 더 자연스럽게 느껴지기 때문이다.

영어초록

This study examines the translator’s strategy to adopt for balancing between the informativity and readability in translating media texts. The difference of the sentence structure between a source language and a target language inevitably brings about shift from a source text. Therefore the translator involves in the translation process to pursuit the norms of the target language. I will look at how a translator involves to transfer the information of a source text and makes shift from the original.
As for the research method, firstly I perform the contrastive analysis of the original and the translation which consists of descriptive and quantitative analysis of each datum. The selected data include relative clauses, which clauses. Analysis categories are based on whether the translation is focused on faithfulness or readability, whether the sentence number of the target text increases or decreases comparing with the number of the source text, and whether the antecedent exists in the target text or not. In the next stage, translation by the presentational arrangement is presented to explore the level of readability of the target text.




According to the result of the analysis, data A has brief sentences and pursues the style of clearness and simpleness considering the text type of the original. In translation of the data B, the translator might focus on the translational function, learning English, by adding the meaning or free translation.
In the result of the detailed analysis, the sentence numbers of the target texts are mostly increased. The features of the presentational translations are similar to those of the analyzed texts. One difference between the target text and the presentational translation is changes of the sentence order between the original and the translation. Another is that the antecedents are translated to transfer the original contents clearly. Presentational translation can pose problems such as faithfulness, unnatural style and repetition caused by translating the antecedent while it can raise readability for the target readers.
