『삼국사기』「최치원전」 고구(考究) - 내용의 사실 검증을 중심으로 - (A Contemplation on 「Choi Chiwon-jeon」 in 『Samkuksagi』 - Focusing on Factual Verification of Its Contents -)

초록

현전하는 문헌 기록 중 최치원의 생애 전체를 살펴볼 수 있는 최초의 기록은 『삼국사기』의 「최치원전」으로 이는 최치원의 생애와 행적을 살피는 데 있어 매우 중요한 자료이자 최고의 권위와 영향력을 가진 기록이다. 그런데 그 내용 중에는 사실과 다르거나 그 사실 여부에 의심을 가질만한 부분이 곳곳에 존재한다. 이에 필자는 본고에서 최치원의 생애와 행적 관련 선행연구를 참고하여 그러한 부분에 대한 고찰을 진행하였다.
먼저, 「최치원전」의 내용 중 사실이 아님이 분명하게 밝혀진 네 부분을 사실에 맞게 바로잡았다. 첫째, 그 세계(世系)를 알 수 없다고 기록한 부분에 대해서는 최소한 최치원의 부친이 최견일(崔肩逸)임을 알 수 있다. 둘째, 최치원이 경문왕 9년(874) 가을 9월에 당에서 과거에 급제했다는 『삼국사기』권11의 기록은 잘못된 것으로, 경문왕 9년 봄 정월이나 2월로 정정되어야 한다. 셋째, ‘율수현위의 업적으로’ 승무랑 시어사내공봉 벼슬을 받고 자금어대를 하사받았다는 내용은 잘못된 것으로, ‘고병막부에서의 활약으로’로 정정되어야 한다. 넷째, 최치원이 문창호로 추증된 시기가 고려 현종 14년 태평 2년 임술 5월로 기록되어 있는데, 이는 현종 14년 태평 3년(1023) 계해 2월로 정정되어야 한다.
마지막으로 「최치원전」의 내용 중 의심의 여지가 있는 부분, 즉 최치원의 재입당 문제와 관련한 사항, 고운(顧雲)이 주었다는 송별시 「유선가」에 대한 진위 문제, 최치원이 고려의 조업을 몰래 도왔다는 근거가 된 ‘계림은 누른 잎이오, 곡령은 푸른 솔이라.’(雞林黄葉, 鵠嶺靑松)의 진위 문제 등에 대해 살펴보았다.

영어초록

From the currently existing written documents, the first record that presents the entire life of Choi Chiwon is 「Choi Chiwon-jeon」 (Story of Choi Chiwon) in 『Samkuksagi』 (History of the Three Kingdoms)』, which is an extremely important data for taking a look at the life and activities of Choi Chiwon as well as the record with highest authority and influence. However, from the contents, there exist a number of parts that are different from the fact and possibly suspicious of such fact. Therefore, this writer has intended to contemplate on such parts in this article by referencing to the advanced studies .
First of all, from the contents of 「Choi Chiwon-jeon」, four parts that are clearly demonstrated as not facts have been corrected to reflect the genuine facts. First, with respect to the part that recorded that the family lineage could not be known, it is clear that at least the father of Choi Chiwon was Choi Gyeon-il. Second, the record on the Volume 1 of 『Samkuksagi』 that Choi Chiwon passed the national examination of the Tang Dynasty in September of the 9th year of King Gyeongmun was a mistake and it must be corrected as January or February of the 9th year of King Gyeongmun. Third, the contents that, with his ‘accomplishment of Yulsuhyeonwi’, he was conferred with the government position of Seungmurang Sieosanaegongbong (承務郞侍御史內供奉) and bestowed with Jageumeodae (紫金魚袋) were wrong and it must be corrected with his ‘activities involved in ‘Bobyeongmakbu (高騈幕府)’. And fourth, the record shows that the time of Choi Chiwon was vested with promotion for Munchangho to be May of Imsul, the second year in Taepyeong during the 14th year of King Hyeonjong of Goryeo, but it has to be corrected for February of Gyehae, the third year in Taepyeong during the 14th year of King Hyeonjong.
Lastly, from the contents of 「Choi Chiwon-jeon」, the parts that have possible suspicions, such as, a matter related to the issue of Jaipdang by Choi Chiwon, issue on genuineness for 「Yuseonga」, a farewell poetry given by Go Wun, issue of genuineness of ‘Gyerim is a yellowish leaf and Gokryeong is a green pine.’ (雞林黄葉, 鵠嶺靑松) that is the basis of Choi Chiwon quietly helping the founding of Goryeo in a way of presenting the opinion of this writer.
