전시체제기 이용악 시의 위치(position)―『오랑캐꽃』을 중심으로 (A Study of Lee Yong-aak’s Literary Postion in the Period of Wartime ― focused on A Violet)

초록

본고는 식민지 전시체제기의 이용악의 위치(position), 그리고 그의 시의 변화 양상과 특성을 살펴보았다.
이용악은 시집 『분수령』(1937)과 『낡은집』(1938)을 일본에서 출간하고 1939년 귀국하였다. 일본에서 쓴 시는 삶의 리얼리티에 입각한 굳건한 정신과 당찬 주체가 돋보였다. 그런데 조선에 돌아와서 발표한 시는 내면의 불안과 분노, 공포에 휩싸여서 좌절감을 호소하는 시가 주류를 이루었다. 이런 변화는 전쟁을 문학의 소재와 주제, 마케팅의 자원으로 삼으려는 조선 문단의 기획 속에서 갈등하며 자기 위치를 잡으려는 시적 고투의 반영이다. 또 그의 문학의 주요한 배경이었던 ‘북방 로컬리티’의 성격 변화와도 관련이 있다. 유랑하는 식민지민의 고난에 찬 주체성과 연대감, 불온한 정치성 등의 장소였던 ‘북방’이 전쟁 이데올로기에 오염되어 동양평화를 실현하는 병사와 개척자의 성소로 담론화함으로써 이용악은 중요한 시적 장소를 박탈당하게 되었다.
이런 역사적․문학적 정황 속에서 산출된 시 「오랑캐꽃」은 ‘오랑캐－되기’/‘비(非)국민－되기’를 통해 전시체제기에 대응한 작품으로 그 위치를 매겨보았다. 동일성의 시학에 바탕을 둔 화자 중심 해석보다는 주체 개념으로 해석하였다.

영어초록

This paper made a survey of the developing process of Lee Yong-aak’s poems and his literary position in the period of wartime of the colonial Korea. During his studying in Japan, he published two collections of poems, A Watershed and An Old House. They acquired favorable comments from the literary circles of criticism because they contained the true aspects of the poems of livelihood based on reality, virile spirits and undaunted subjects. But, after his return home in 1939, Lee Yong-aak showed an unexpected literary attitude. Wrapped in anxiety, anger and frustration, he seemed to wander around near the border line of decadence. His sudden change was closely related to the planning of Josun literary field and publishing capital. The Josun literary field took part in creating and praising war－aspiring subjects, and the publishing capital intended to profit from literary works dealing with war.
On the other hand, the ‘nothern locality’ also went under change which was Lee’s literary theme and background. For him, the nothern region was a place where the wandering colonial Korean people were raising and strengthening the subjectivity through hardships, national combination and the desire for political resistence. But his nothern region got contaminated by war ideology and became the holy place of the soldiers and pioneers who were to realize the Oriental peace. Thus, Lee Yong-aak came to lose his literary source for poetic creation.
Created in such historcal and cultural circumstances, Lee’s poem A Violet could be interpreted as a poem to attempt ‘to be a violet/not to be Japanese.’ This paper introduced the subject－oriented interpretation rather than the narrator－oriented interpretation based on the poetic theory of sameness.
