컴퓨터 문헌 분석 기법을 활용한 <심청전> 계통 분류 연구 (The classification of “Sim Cheong-jeon” through a computer analysis technique of bibliographies.)

초록

본고는 컴퓨터 문헌 분석 기법을 활용하여 <심청전>의 내용 분석 방법 을 수립하고, 이를 바탕으로 계산 모델에 의해 <심청전> 이본의 계열과 계통을 살펴보고자 했다. 그간 <심청전> 이본에 대한 연구 성과는 상당한 수준으로 집적되어 왔다. 그러나 다루고 있는 이본의 대상과 계열 구분의 기준은 연구자마다 달라 전체 실상을 온전히 파악했다고 보기에는 어렵다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 특정 기준을 설정하지 않고 전체 내용의 유사도에 <심청전>의 계열과 계통에 대한 논의를 진행하고자 했다. 이를 위해 <심청 전> 각 단락의 이본 유형을 인코딩하여 코퍼스를 구축하고, 이를 바탕으로 해밍 거리를 이용하여 단락 유형별 거리를 측정하고자 했다. 이후 다차원 척도법과 계층적 군집 분석을 적용, 이본의 서사단락에 따른 유형별 군집 양상을 시각화하여 기존의 이본 연구와의 비교작업을 실시하다. 이러한 연구 결과를 통해 <심청전> 이본에 대한 기존 논의의 타당성과 정확성을 살펴보았으며, 몇 가지 문제점을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 우선 <심청 전> 이본은 기존의 연구자들이 주장한 바와 같이, 경판/완판/완판이전 계열이라는 세 가지 그룹으로 존재한다는 점이다. 각 계열에 속한 이본의 존재 양상 역시 기존의 논의에서 크게 벗어나지 않는 것으로 파악된다. 그러나 심봉사의 이름에 따른 계열분류에서 이탈하거나 어디에도 속하지 않는 이본들이 적지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 이는 완판 이전의 <심청전> 이본들의 계열 분류에 대한 보완이 필요하다는 것을 방증한다. 본고에서 진행한 방법론은 ‘계통발달’이 아니라 ‘계통분기’의 결과물을 보여주는 만큼, 현재로서는 <심청전> 이본들의 통시적인 변화양상에 대한 해석과 선후관계를 추적하기에는 어려움이 있다. 연구자들의 계열 구분에 따라 그 위치가 달라지는 이본들과, 본 연구에서 살펴본 계열별 군집에 속하지 못하는 특수한 이본들에 대해서는 추가적 검토가 있어야 한다. 이를 통해 <심청전> 이본 간의 미세한 차이들에 대한 설명이 가능해 질 것이라 기대하고, 나아가 <심청전>의 역사적 맥락을 규명할 수 있게 되기 를 바란다.

영어초록

This study aims to establish a contents analysis method for “Sim Cheong-jeon (Story of Sim Cheong)” through a computer analysis technique of bibliographies; it does so by examining the lines and systems for different versions of “Sim Cheong-jeon” using a calculation model based on the above-mentioned technique. The study on the f1 of “Sim Cheong-jeon” has already gathered significant results. However, since the subject standards and different versions are handled differently by different researchers, it is difficult to consider our findings as complete. Therefore, in this study, we intend to discuss the lines and systems of “Sim Cheong-jeon,” looking at the similarities of entire contents without setting forth any specific standard. For this purpose, the different types of versions for each paragraph of “Sim Cheong-jeon” are encoded to structure the corpus, and, based on that corpus, the hamming distance is used to measure the distance for each type of paragraph. Thereafter, multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analysis are applied to create a visual for the cluster aspect for each type, following the narrative paragraph of the different versions by implementing the comparative work with the existing studies of different versions. Through such results, the reasonableness and accuracy of existing discourse on the different versions of “Sim Cheong-jeon” have been examined while focusing on a number of issues thereof. First, the different versions of “Sim Cheong-jeon” existed in three clusters of end plate/complete plate/pre-complete plate lines, as has been asserted by previous researchers. The existence aspect of the different versions that belong to each line is also considered to not deviate significantly from the existing discussion. However, under the line classification following the name of Simbongsa (the father of Sim Cheong), there are significant differences with versions not deviating or belonging to any category. This confirms that there is a need for supplementation on the line classification of the different versions of “Sim Cheon-jeon.” prior to the complete plate. The methodology used in this study results in line divergence; however, the system development shows that there is currently difficulty in tracking down the sequence as well as in interpreting the diachronic change aspects of the different versions of “Sim Cheong-jeon.” Additional reviews should be conducted on different versions with different positions depending on the line classification of researchers; special different versions not belonging to any group for each line should be examined, as in this study. Through this effort, it may be possible to describe the finite differences between the different versions of “Sim Cheong-jeon,” and the historic context of “Sim Cheong-jeon” can hopefully be clarified.
