이춘풍전의 분석심리학적 고찰 (A Analyticpsychological Study on Lee-Chunpoong)

초록

이 작품은 의식이 없는 춘풍이 기생 추월과 아내에 의해 의식 있는 사람으로 바뀌는 이야기다. 이의 과정을 융의 분석심리학으로 분석하였다.
이춘풍은 부잣집의 외동아들로 태어난다. 이에 그의 어머니가 아들을 과잉보호하여 버릇없는 아이로 키운다. 그의 어머니는 나쁜 어머니에 해당한다. 이후 부모가 함께 돌아가시고, 돌봐줄 이웃조차 없어지자, 춘풍은 무의식적으로 행동하기 시작하니 술과 노름으로 패가망신한다.
이에 그는 아내에게 잘못을 빌고, 아내에게 의지하여 의식주를 해결한다. 아내가 나쁜 어머니로 대치된 것이다. 그러나 세월이 지남에 따라 다시 술로 날을 지새다가 다시 무의식적 욕망이 발동하여 아내가 번 돈과 호조 돈을 빌어 평양으로 간다. 거기서 추월이란 기생의 미모에 미쳐 모든 돈을 탕진한다. 무의식적 욕망에 빠진 것이다. 추월은 그를 사환으로 두고 고생시킨다. 이 고생으로 말미암아 춘풍은 조금 정신(의식)을 차린다.
또한 춘풍의 처가 비장으로 변장하여 춘풍을 구하러 평양으로 온다. 그녀는 먼저 춘풍을 매로 쳐서 정신을 차리게 한다. 그리고 추월을 징치하여 춘풍에게 돈을 받아오라고 하고는 먼저 귀가한다. 춘풍은 아내의 덕에 의관을 정제하고 돈을 받아 집으로 와서는 다시 옛날 버릇대로 하려고 한다. 그는 아직 제대로 정신을 못 차린 것이다. 이에 아내가 비장으로 변복하고 춘풍의 잘못을 깨우친 뒤에야 춘풍이 잘못을 뉘우치고 비로소 개과하게 된다. 사람이 정신차리는 것이 얼마나 어려운지를 잘 보여주는 소설이다. 의식은 정신으로, 철이 든다는 말과 같다.
결국 이 소설은 철 없는 아이가 추월과 아내의 도움으로 철이 든 어른으로 성장하는 성장소설이다. 이 작품은 우리나라 최초의 성장소설로, 훌륭한 고전작품으로 다시 자리매김해야 할 것이다.

영어초록

This story has a basic plot that Chunpoong who doesn't have consciousness gets to have consciousness thanks to his wife.
Chunpoong was born as an only child of rich family and brought up spoiled. His parents were to blame for this, because they didn't teach him manners, modesty, self-restraint and independence. While they were alive, he lived a normal life depending on them. After his parents died, however, he didn't have any relatives who could control him, and did many mean things freely without consciousness.
He got indulged in a voluptuous life and squandered all his parents' fortune giving himself to wine and women. He became penniless, and began to depend on his wife. He gave up patriarch and wanted his wife to support his family. His wife worked hard and made money, so his family could live in abundance. Chunpoong spent everyday drinking, and became more and more arrogant. He determined to leave home for Pyungyang to do business with the money that his wife had earned, and with the loan from the government office. There he got infatuated with a girl named Chuwall, and he was taken all the money away by her. He begged her to stay her home as a servant. He lived there like a beggar regretting his past behavior.
Chunpoong's wife heard this by the rumor and went to Pyungyang wearing a mask (페르조나) of a royal commissioner. She let Chunpoong brought in front of her and whipped severely. So far, she used to tell him by words which were useless, now she changed the way to whipping in order to make him have consciousness. Next she made Chuwall return the money to Chunpoong, and told him to go home with the money.
After Chunpoong came home, he got arrogant again, and grumbled over everything not knowing that his wife was actually a royal commissioner. So his wife went out of the room and wore the commissioner's clothes again, and reminded him of the past things in Pyungyang. Then she took off the commissioner's clothes, and let him realize that he was just her wife. At this, he got ashamed much and was born a new man. At last, the spirit, the consciousness came to him,
In conclusion, this story shows that unconscious and independent Chunpoong changes to a conscious and dependent man thanks to Chuwall and his wife. In other words. a thoughtless person changes to a thoughtful one. It seems that we all should go through this kind of process to become a mature adult.
