본 연구는 중국 청대(淸代) 시기를 전후하여 등장한 재자가인 소설 중 하나인 『호구전(好逑傳)』의 서사적 구조를 분석하고, 그 특징과 의의를 고찰하는 것을 주요 목적으로 한다. 이 연구는 기존 연구의 한계를 바탕으로 『호구전』의 서사 구조를 분석한다. 사전 작업으로는 『호구전』의 서사 구조 형성에 기여하는 주요 요소들을 살펴본다. 이러한 요소들은 남녀 주인공이 공유한 아버지의 위기, 여러 복선적 장치의 반복과 중첩을 통한 인물 형상 묘사의 심화, 그리고 작품의 주제와 플롯 전개의 핵심적인 개념으로 작용하는 '선간후취(先奸後娶)'에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. '선간후취'의 개념은 『호구전』 전체 서사에 동력을 부여하며, 더 나아가서 명대 말기에서 청대 초기에 등장한 재자가인 소설의 장르적 성격을 재정의할 여지를 제공한다.
본 연구는 첫째로, 두 남녀 주인공이 순차적으로 '아버지의 위기'를 겪으며 인물 개성을 발휘하고, 서사 공간의 이동과 결속, 주변 인물 형상 부각과 관계의 형성을 통해 서사 전개의 기반이 되는 과정을 분석한다. 둘째로, 철중옥이 어려움을 겪은 위기를 도와주고 다시 위패가 철중옥에게 보답하는 협의 서사의 틀 안에서, 철중옥과 수빙심이 위패의 고난을 재현하는 애정 서사가 복선적 장치의 연쇄적인 활용을 통해 전개되는 과정을 바탕으로 전체적인 서사의 구조를 분석한다. 셋째로, 『호구전』이 예교와 애정의 충돌 상황을 '선간후취'의 기제를 통해 다양한 양상으로 변주하고 있음을 규명한다. 이러한 내용들이 본 연구의 주요 내용으로 진행된다.
이를 통해 애정 통속 서사의 형성 과정에서 단순히 통시적인 과도기적 역할을 담당하는 것으로 평가해왔던 재자가인 서사의 문학사적 의의에 대해 정치성을 내재한 애정 서사의 또 다른 이면을 노출하는 가능성을 제공한다. 이를 통해 그동안 천편일률적 모식을 탈피하지 못한 것으로 비판받아왔던 다소 경직된 기존의 명말 청초 재자가인 서사 연구 영역에 대하여 이전보다 더욱 다양하고 풍부한 논의를 견인할 수 있는 지점을 확보했다.

The principal objective of this scholarly inquiry is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the narrative architecture inherent in Hau kiou choaan, a seminal component of the ‘Talented and the Beautiful’ anthology, which materialized during the Qing Dynasty in China. The study is fundamentally oriented towards elucidating the distinctive attributes and significations embedded within the chosen work. Cognizant of the limitations intrinsic to extant scholarship, this endeavor is inherently geared towards a meticulous deconstruction of the narrative structure permeating Hau kiou choaan.
Preliminarily, the investigation endeavors to unravel the shared paternal crisis encountered by the male and female protagonists. This study also delves into the intricate stratagems employed to engender an amplification of character delineation through the iterative and superimpositional deployment of recurrent motifs. In tandem, the investigation meticulously dissects the propellant underpinning the entire narrative construct - the concept of ‘preceding and following’. Serving as the fulcrum for thematic articulation and plot advancement, the notion of ‘preceding and following’ assumes an elemental role within the narrative frame work, while concurrently affording the scope for a reevaluation of the categorization of autogenous literary productions that surfaced during the juncture of the late Ming and early Qing eras.
The study proceeds by scrutinizing salient dimensions. Primarily, it orchestrates an inquiry into the sequential navigation of a 'father's crisis' by the male and female personae. This crisis serves as the fulcrum for the evolution of the narrative tapestry, facilitated by an orchestration of character portrayal, the choreography of spatial dynamics, the accentuation of peripheral personages, and the establishment of interpersonal entanglements. In a subsequent vein, within the rubric of a consultative narrative framework, whereby Tie Zhongyu lends succor to Wei Pai in his tribulations, reciprocated by Wei Pai's intervention in Tie Zhongyu's dilemmas, a framed compositional framework unfurls. Within this compositional prism, the liaison between Tie Zhongwei and Sui Bingxin unfurls as a romantic narrative, redolent of Wei Pai's anguish. This deployment underscores the foundational precept that the overarching narrative schema rests upon the serial assimilation of recursive elements. As a tertiary pursuit, this study accentuates the pivotal thrust of Hau kiou choaan - the transmutation of the conflict between decorum and sentiment into variegated manifestations through the conduit of the 'preceding and following' paradigm.
By doing so, the study seeks to excavate an unexplored facet of the politicized love narrative, which heretofore has been relegated to a diachronically transitional role in the sculpting of the collective amatory narrative. This analytic trajectory, in turn, aspires to bestow a nuanced and multifaceted discourse upon the existent expanse of scholarship concerning the ‘Talented and the Beautiful’ literary milieu - a domain that has hitherto been reproached for its perceived doctrinal inflexibility and its perceived incapacity to rupture the confines of entrenched archetypes.
