경주 지역 축제의 스토리텔링 전략 연구－제47회 신라문화제를 중심으로－ (A Study of Storytelling Strategies of Regional Festival of Gyeongju －Focused on the 47th Silla Cultural Festival)

본 연구는 제47회 신라문화제의 스토리텔링 전략 분석의 이론적 배경을 제시하고 축제의 이미지와 스토리텔링을 구성하는 요소를 도출하였다. 이를 토대로 1)공간 스토리텔링, 2)유형별 행사 구성과 배치 스토리텔링, 3)층위에 따른 서사 구성 스토리텔링으로 논의를 세분화하여 진행했다.
먼저 신라문화제의 공간 스토리텔링은 연속성, 방향성, 영역성, 전이성의 측면에서 볼 때 구조물·공간 요소의 외형에서 구현되어야 할 ‘신라’의 특징이 부족하다고 평가된다. 따라서 신라문화제의 개최 공간에서는 물리적 표상화를 통해 ‘신라’와 ‘경주’의 특색을 잘 드러내는 서사나 문화원형이 축제 참여자에게 직관적으로 각인될 필요가 있다. 둘째, 신라문화제의 유형별 행사 구성의 스토리텔링을 분석한 결과, 공연이 가장 많은 비중을 차지하며, ‘신라 문화’와는 동떨어진 행사 기획도 다수 발견할 수 있었다. 따라서 공연 행사의 비중을 줄이되, 공연, 체험, 전시 행사 모두 축제의 정체성을 잘 확립할 수 있는 기획 및 구성의 강화가 필요하다. 셋째, 층위에 따른 서사 구성 스토리텔링을 분석한 결과, 신라문화제의 거시 서사는 화랑정신과 풍류도를 통해 신라 문화를 계승하는 것이다. 그런데 축제의 주제와 맥락에서 이탈된 주변 미시 서사들은 거시 서사나 축제 정체성을 훼손하는 부정적 기능을 하였다. 따라서 중심 미시 서사, 주변 미시 서사의 관계망을 기반으로 거시 서사가 잘 구현되고 있는지에 대한 총체적 분석과 평가가 필요하다. 이러한 분석을 토대로 6장에서는 신라문화제 스토리텔링 전략을 제언하였다.
본 연구를 통해 신라문화제의 스토리텔링 전략이 대중의 축제 향유에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 다각도에서 살펴볼 수 있었다. 본 논의가 추후 신라문화제 스토리텔링 기획, 나아가 여타의 축제 스토리텔링 기획·진행의 분석 방법으로 활용될 수 있기를 기대한다.

영어초록

This study presented a theoretical background of analysis of storytelling strategies regarding the 47th Silla Cultural Festival and deduced elements constituting images and storytelling of the Festival. Based on this, this study subdivided debate into 1) Space storytelling, 2) Storytelling of event configuration and arrangement by type and 3) Storytelling of narrative composition by level.
Firstly, from the perspective of continuity, directionality, territoriality and transition, it is evaluated that space storytelling of Silla Cultural Festival lacks intrinsic features of “Silla” that is supposed to be realized in the outward appearances of structure and spatial elements. Therefore, it is required for the space hosting Silla Cultural Festival to imprint narrative or cultural archetype representing intrinsic features of “Silla” or “Gyeongju” on participants in the Festival through physical symbolization. Secondly, according to analysis of storytelling of event configuration and arrangement by type with respect to Silla Cultural Festival, the greatest proportion lies in performances while a number of event plans far from “Silla culture” were observed as well. For this reason, it is necessary to strengthen organization and composition to firmly establish the identity of all festivals encompassing performances, experiences and exhibition events while reducing proportion of performance events. Thirdly, according to analysis of storytelling of narrative composition by level, the macronarrative of Silla Cultural Festival lies in inheriting culture of Silla by way of Hwarang sprit and Pungryudo. However, peripheral micronarratives deviated from the theme and context of the Festival played a negative role in damaging macronarrative or identity of the Festival. For this reason, it is essential to make an overall analysis and evaluation to see if macronarrative is in smooth implementation based on the network of central micronarrative and peripheral micronarrative. Based on this analysis, storytelling strategy of Silla Cultural Festival was presented on Chapter 6.
This study made it possible to understand from multiple directions how storytelling strategies of Silla Cultural Festival give influences on enjoyment of the festival of the public. The discussion of this study expects to be served as a way of organizing storytelling of Silla Cultural Festival, and furthermore, a way of organizing and conducting storytelling of many other festivals.
