초록

본 연구는 팬데믹 이전(2017~2019)에서 팬데믹 시기(2020~2022)로의 전환을 중심으로 부산국제영화제와 전주국제영화제에서 상영된 단편영화의 주제적 변천을 살펴본다. 이 연구는 변화하는 사회 문화적 환경, 특히 글로벌 위기였던 코로나19 대유행이 어떻게 단편영화의 내러티브와 제작 과정을 재구성했는지를 중점적으로 탐구한다.
팬데믹 이전에 두 페스티벌의 단편영화는 주로 개인의 정체성, 사회적 규범, 실험적인 스토리텔링을 중심으로 한 주제로 광범위한 사회적, 개인적, 문화적 내러티브를 탐구했다. 이러한 주제는 다양한 개인적, 사회적문제를 다루었으며, 복잡한 인간 경험을 탐구하는 매체로서 단편영화의 다양한 범위를 보여줬다.
그러나 코로나19 팬데믹이 시작되면서 주제의 초점이 크게 바뀌었다. 팬데믹 기간 동안 단편영화는 건강, 고립, 지역사회 대응과 같은 보다 보편적이고 즉각적인 문제를 다루기 시작했다. 이 시기의 단편영화의 주제를분석해 보면 고립, 정신 건강, 디지털의 생활화 및 회복력을 중심으로 한 내러티브로의 명확한 변화를 보여준다. 이러한 변화는 봉쇄와 사회적 거리두기로 인해 발생한 제작환경의 제약 하에서 영화 제작자의 적응 전략이반영된 결과일 뿐 아니라, 글로벌 위기의 심리적, 사회적 영향을 반영하는 단편 영화의 역할을 강조한다.
본 연구의 결과는 영화 및 단편영화 제작 과정의 교육자와 학생에게 귀중한 통찰력을 제공하며, 영화제작커리큘럼이 교육 결과의 관련성과 영향을 향상시키기 위해 현대 사회의 문제를 반영해야 함을 시사한다. 이 연구는 학생들이 영화 제작 시, 이러한 환경의 역동성을 적극적으로 통찰하여 시나리오화 하기 위해 현재 및새로운 사회 현실에 공감하는 주제를 선택하는 것이 중요하다는 점을 강조한다.
결론적으로, 본 연구는 영화제작의 기술적 측면뿐만 아니라 우리 시대의 사회문화적 과제를 포용하는 주제의 중요성을 강조하면서, 영화제작 교육의 주제 선정 방향을 결정하는 중요한 자료가 될 것이다. 이러한 분석은 영화제작 수업의 기본 지침이 되어 사회 문제 및 변화와 깊이 상호 연결된 방식으로 영화 교육의 미래를형성하는 데 도움이 될 것이라 본다.

This research investigates the thematic transformations in short films showcased at the Busan International Film Festival and Jeonju International Film Festival, analyzing the shift from the pre-pandemic period (2017-2019) to the pandemic period (2020-2022). The focus is on how the changing social and cultural contexts, especially the global crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic, have influenced the narrative structures and production processes of short films.
Prior to the pandemic, short films featured at these festivals engaged with a broad spectrum of so cial, personal, and cultural narratives, predominantly exploring themes related to personal identity, societal norms, and experimental storytelling. These films addressed a range of personal and social issues, showcasing the versatility of short films as a medium for delving into complex human experiences.
However, the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic marked a significant shift in thematic focus.
During this period, short films began tackling more universal and immediate concerns such as health, isolation, and community response. An analysis of the films from this era reveals a pronounced trend towards narratives focusing on isolation, mental health, digital existence, and resilience. These shifts are not merely responses to the constraints imposed by the pandemic's production environment, in cluding lockdowns and social distancing, but also underscore the role of short films in mirroring the psychological and social ramifications of the global crisis.
The findings from this study offer crucial insights for educators and students in film and short film production programs, suggesting that curricula should integrate contemporary societal issues to en hance the relevance and efficacy of educational outcomes. It underscores the importance of selecting film topics that resonate with both existing and emerging social realities, enabling students to deeply engage with and depict the dynamics of their environment.
In conclusion, this research provides a valuable foundation for guiding topic selection in film pro duction education, highlighting the need to address not only the technical aspects of film production but also the social and cultural challenges of the current era. This analysis is expected to serve as a fundamental guideline for film production courses, shaping the future of film education in a manner that is intricately linked with societal changes and issues.
