제주학아카이브와 제주도 무형유산 자료의 구축 (Establishing the Jeju Studies Archives and Jeju Intangible Heritage Materials)

초록

제주특별자치도는 2011년 8월 12일에 제주학연구센터를 설립하고 2011년 10월 11일부터 제주연구원 부설기관으로 자리잡아 제주학을 통한 지역사회 발전과 학술 진흥에 이바지하고자 했다.
제주학연구센터가 개원 초기부터 관심을 둔 것은 제주학 관련 연구물의 체계적인 수집과 DB화 그리고 보존 관리 및 제주학아카이브시스템 활용을 통한 제주학의 대내외 홍보였다.
제주학아카이브의 활용은 학자나 일반인 대상으로 제주학 정보를 공유함과 동시에, 학문적 자료 제공, 웹사이트를 이용한 자료 제공으로 제주학 자료의 통합 교류 및 글로벌화와 같은 제주학 자료 활용을 통한 부가가치 상승으로 지식 자산화에 두고 있다.
현재 구축된 자료 중 가장 효과적으로 활용될 수 있는 자료는 제주도 무형유산에 관한 자료들로서, 예를 들면 제주해녀, 제주민요, 제주무속, 또는 당, 본풀이인 신화와 같은 것이라고 생각된다.
제주무형유산의 글로벌화(globalization)는 지방이 세계화에 조응하고 대응하기 위한 지역학의 설립과 목적에도 부합된다고 할 것이다. 가장 지역성이 강한 자료는 지역민의 정신이 담긴 무형유산 자료로 지역의 정체성이 잘 담겨있기도 하다.
지역의 공동체의 문화로 아이덴티티가 강한 자료들은 문화다양성의 측면에서 세계화가 가능한 자료들이고, 이는 지역의 독자적인 문화가 세계 속에서 가치를 인정받고 그에 대한 대응으로 지역단위에서의 지역화(glocalization)를 위한 논리개발이 요청되어 지역문화를 학제적으로 체계화할 필요성이 대두되고 있기도 하다.
이 글은 제주도 무형유산의 글로벌 유산으로서의 자료적 가치를 인정하고, 현재 아카이브 구축 실태를 파악하여, 차후 제주학아카이브가 제주도 무형유산의 플렛폼의 역할을 담당하고 제주도 무형유산의 지속보전을 위한 자료 구축 공간으로 자리매김하고자 했다.

영어초록

Jeju Special Self-Governing Province established the Center for Jeju Studies on August 12, 2011, and an affiliated organization to Jeju Research Institute was founded on October 11, 2011, to contribute to local community development and academic promotion through Jeju Studies.
From its opening, the Center for Jeju Studies has focused on systematically collecting research materials relating to Jeju Studies and establishing a database for them, alongside preserving, maintaining, and promoting them at home and abroad through the utilization of the Jeju Studies Archives System.
The Jeju Studies Archives allows scholars and the public to share information on Jeju Studies by providing academic materials and more through the website. Its purpose lies in integrating, exchanging and globalizing Jeju Studies materials alongside the assetization of knowledge through Jeju Studies-related material utilization and additional value increase.
The materials that can be utilized most effectively among those established include Jeju intangible heritages such as Jeju haenyeo, Jeju folk songs, and Jeju shamanic rituals, shrines, and their narrative myths.
Globalizing Jeju intangible heritages accords with the establishment of regional studies and the goal of regions to correspond and respond to globalization. Intangible heritage materials most strongly embody regionality, the spirit of local people, and fully represent the identity of the region. Materials imbued with local culture as well as people’s identity can be globalized in terms of cultural diversity. Therefore, locally distinctive cultures can be recognized around the world and this makes it necessary to develop the logic for the glocalization of the materials and to systemize local cultures in an interdisciplinary fashion.
The purpose of this article is to identify the material value of Jeju intangible heritages, identify the current condition of the archive establishment, and propose plans for future utilization with the hope that the Jeju Studies Archives can be positioned as an established space for materials for the sustainable preservation of Jeju intangible heritages.
