휘항 재현품 제작을 위한 고증과 제작 방법 연구 (A Study on the Literary Research and Restoration of Hwihang)

초록

본 연구는 단국대학교 석주선박물관 소장 휘항 재현품 제작을 위한 이론적 고찰, 실증적 유물 조사, 재현 과정에 관한 것이다.
이론적 고찰에서는 휘항에 대한 다양한 문헌 및 회화 자료를 수집하고 고증하였으며, 유물 조사는 휘항의 구조, 소재, 부분별 바느질법, 구성 기법, 제작 과정을 중심으로 이루어졌다. 예비 재현품을 사전 제작하여 유물 조사를 진행하였다. 이 과정을 통해 실견하지 않고 유물을 재현했을 때 발생할 수 있는 문제점을 인지했 으며, 예비 재현품을 제작하면서 생겼던 궁금증을 기반으로 더 세세한 부분까지 관찰 가능했다.
휘항 유물 조사 결과, 겉감에는 선염 공단이, 안감 털은 산토끼털이 사용된 것으로 확인되었다. 겉감은 풀기가 없고 부드러웠으며, 겉감 안쪽에는 심지 대신 풀솜이 두어져 있었다. 겉감을 겹으로 하여 그 사이에 솜을 두어 외피를 만든 후, 안감 털을 정수리에서 약 14cm 아래 부분부터 전체적으로 대어 준 형태였다. 테두리 부분의 털은 테모를 대어주지 않고 안감 털을 겉으로 접어 올려 고정하였다. 유물 재현은 정확한 형태, 소재, 바느질 기법 고증을 중요한 과제로 삼았으며, 봉술-매듭-끈목도 유물 형태와 색상을 최대한 살려서 재현하였다.
실증적 유물 조사와 재현 과정을 통해 단국대학교 석주선박물관 소장 휘항 제작 방법이 기존에 발표된 휘항 제작 방법과 다르다는 사실을 지적하여 휘항 제작 방법의 다양성에 대한 가능성을 제시하였다.

영어초록

This study is about the literary research, relic investigation, and the process of making a replica for the restoration of Hwihang in the collection of the Seokjusun Memorial Museum at Dankook University.
In the literary research, various literature and painting materials on Hwihang were collected and verified, and the relic investigation was centered on the structure, materials, sewing methods for each part, and production process. For the investigation of the relics, preliminary replica was used. Through this process, the problems that may arise when reproducing the relic without failing to see it were recognized. Also it was possible to observe the relic in detail based on the curiosity arising from the production of the preliminary replica.
Following are the results of the investigation: First, the outer fabric is a satin weaved with pre-dyed thread. Its gloss and softness remain the same though around 100 years of time has passed. Second, it is lined with hare’s hair. Third, the outer shell is not starched nor used stiff interlining. It is assumed to be filled with silk layers of mulberry silk fibers in that it is soft and light. The Hwihang relic is constructed with the outer shell in complete shape with the fur lining sewn to it with large stitches.
The lining fur was attached about 7cm below the top. The fur on the rim is a fold-up of the lining fur to the outside, not the additional trimming fur.
When reproducing the relic, the accurate form, material, and verification of sewing techniques were taken as important tasks, and the shape and color of the braid-knot-tassels were also reproduced as accurate as possible. Through the process of empirical relic investigation and reproduction, it was pointed out that the method of making the Hwihang in the Seokjuseon Museum of Dankook University collection was different from the previously known method, suggesting a possibility for the diversity of methods of making a Hwihang.
