어린이 놀이의 문화재적 가치 분석 (Analysis on the Value of the Children’s Plays as Cultural Properties)

초록

놀이는 시대적․사회문화적 변화와 밀접하게 연관되며 동시에 놀이에 대한 인식과 가치평가도 달라진다. 어린이 놀이 역시 문화재의 대상이 되는 성인놀이에 상응하는 문화재적 가치가 있다. 그러나 지금까지 어린이 놀이는 주로 교육학적 접근이나 문화콘텐츠로서의 가치연구가 중심을 이루었을 뿐이지 문화재로서의 접근과 연구는 활발하게 이루어지지 않았다. 보편적으로 널리 공유되고 있어 무형문화재로 지정하기 어려웠던 종목을 보호할 수 있는 법제도적 기반이 마련되었다. 또한 등록문화재 등록대상이 기존에 제외되었던 놀이를 포함한 생활문화 전반으로 확대되었다. 따라서 앞으로 다양한 어린이놀이에 주목하고, 문화재적 가치를 탐구해보며 지속가능한 발전방안을 적극적으로 모색해야 할 것이다. 어린이라는 개념 자체와 놀이유물인 장난감의 탄생을 추동했던 사회문화적 배경과 그 과정을 통해 근대놀이문화를 살펴본다. 모든 유형과 무형 문화유산 간에는 태생적으로 친연적인 조합된 가치가 내재되어 있다. 현재 등록문화재는 ‘무형’은 등록 대상에 포함하고 있지 않지만 놀이유물의 경우만 놓고 보더라도 놀이에 담겨있는 전통지식, 놀이하는 방식, 놀이도구를 제작하는 방법 등과 같은 무형적인 속성이 많다. 때문에 유형문화재적 특성에만 초점을 두지 않아야 한다. 현행 문화재 지정제도에서 이러한 유형과 무형의 친연적 속성을 제대로 보전, 활용하지 못하고 있다는 점을 보완할 수 있는 것이 등록문화재 제도라고 생각한다.

영어초록

Plays are changing by time closely associated with the changes of the society and culture. Also, along with that, people’s recognition on them or the value of them is changing as well. Children’s plays, too, have value as cultural properties just like adults’ plays that are the objects of cultural properties. However, research on children’s plays has mainly dealt with the value of them as cultural contents or approached them pedagogically. In fact, not much research has approached children’s plays as cultural properties. They have established the legal and institutional systems to protect events that have been hard to be designated as intangible cultural properties as they are shared too widely and universally. Also, the objects to be registered as cultural properties have been extended to not only plays that were excluded previously but to the area of living culture in general. Therefore, from now on, we should pay attention to children’s plays around us, explore the value of them as cultural properties, and aggressively find out how to develop them sustainably. The concept of children itself as well as the socio-cultural background and the process of encouraging the birth of toys, one of the play relics, are very useful to examine modern play culture. Also, among all the tangible and intangible cultural properties, there is innate value intimately combined in it. Although presently, ‘intangible’ things are not included in the registered cultural properties, if we look at the play relics only, we can find they are equipped with a lot of intangible attributes, for example, traditional knowledge contained in them, methods of playing, or methods of making play tools. Therefore, we should not focus on the characteristics of tangible cultural properties merely. In the current cultural property designation system, this author thinks that the system of registered cultural properties can be the one that can complement the fault that we have not been able to preserve or utilize those intimate attributes of tangible and intangible properties properly.
