나주 남평주조장 소장자료의 가치와 활용방안 (Value and Way of Utilization for the Materials Held by Naju Nampyeong Brewery)

초록

본고에서는 나주 남평주조장 소장자료가 가지고 있는 의미와 가치를 살펴보았고 이 자료를 어떻게 활용할 것인지 논하였다. 나주 남평주조장은 1932년 5월 15일 남평주조주식회사라는 이름으로 설립되었다. 조선 탁주 제조 및 판매가 목적이었고, 1대 대표는 나가사코쿤이치로(長迫訓一郞)로 이사 4명, 감사 2명의 운영진으로 구성되어 있었다. 그런데 무슨 이유인지 1938년 5월 31일 주식총회 결의로 해산되었다. 토지대장에 의하면 남평주조주식회사 소유 토지와 건물은 1938년 1월 22일 박창환에게 이전되어 양로양조장으로 운영되었다. 이후 그의 아들인 박재기가 인수하여 운영하였고, 박재기의 아들 박순호에게 증여되어 1988년 남평주주장으로 이름이 바뀌어 운영되었다. 남평주조장은 2000년대 초반 대표자가 이광열로 바뀌었고 2015년 10월 소유권이 윤태석 현 자료 소장자에게 이전되어 운영되어 오다가 현재 영업이 중단된 상태이다.
남평주조장 소장자료는 2018년 5월 현지 조사 시 1차로 수집된 것으로 총 1,288종 2,318점이 정리되어 목록화하였다. 정리된 자료는 크게 도면/지도류, 도서류, 문서류, 사진/필름류, 신문/잡지류, 유물류 등 5개의 대분류로 분류하였고, 이는 내용의 특성상 다시 21개의 중분류로 분류하였다. 자료의 시기는 근･현대이고 남평주조장에 대한 운영, 인사채용, 주조 등 직접적인 관련 자료뿐만 아니라 소송, 편지, 사진 등 지역의 생활문화 관련 자료도 많이 포함되어 있다.
이렇게 정리된 남평주조장 소장자료의 가치는 다음과 같다. 먼저 근･현대 기록문화유산로서의 가치이다. 둘째는 남평주조장 막걸리 주조 기술과 주조 방식에 대한 활용 가치이다. 셋재는 지역의 주류제조와 판매 및 유통에 대한 자료적 가치이다. 넷째는 근대 건축물로서 공간의 복원과 활용적 측면에서의 가치이다. 마지막으로 남평주조장이 지역에서 가지는 생활문화사적 연구자료의 가치이다.
이러한 남평주조장 소장자료가 가지고 있는 의미와 가치는 이를 어떻게 활용할 것인가에 대한 문제로 생각해볼 수 있다. 기본적으로 근･현대 기록문화유산에 대한 분류 및 정리방식의 표준안 마련이 필요한데 현재 진행하고 있는 남평주조장 소장자료 정리 및 목록화작업은 표준안을 만드는데 하나의 지표로써 활용할 수 있다. 그리고 남평주조장의 건물 복원과 함께 남평오일장, 근대건축물 등을 아우르는 남평지역의 근･현대역사문화 공간으로 재탄생을 구성하는데 활용할 수 있다. 그리고 지역민과 함께하는 지역문화콘텐츠 개발 자원으로 활용될 수 있으며, 마지막으로 지역의 기록화 작업을 진행하는데 중요한 자원으로 활용할 수 있다.

영어초록

The study reviewed of the meaning and value of the materials held by Naju Nampyeong Brewery and discussed how to utilize them. Naju Nampyeong Brewery was established on May 15, 1932 with the name of Nampyeong Brewery Co., Ltd. Its business purpose was manufacture and sales of Joseon unrefined rice wine. Its first CEO was Nagasako Kunichiro and management included four executive directors and two auditors. Then, somehow, it was dissolved on May 31, 1933 by a resolution at the general meeting of shareholders.
According to Land Registration, the land and building of Nampyeong Brewery Co., Ltd. were transferred to Chang Hwan Park, who ran the company as Yangro Brewery. Later, Jae Gi Park, his son, acquired and operated it and turned it over to Sun Ho Park, Jae Gi Park's son, who ran the company under a new name of Nampyeong Brewery in 1988. Nampyeong Brewery got a new CEO of Gwang Yeol Lee in early 2000s and again, was transferred to Tae Seok Yun, current owner of the materials in October 2015, after when the business was halted.
The materials held by Nampyeong Brewery are what have been collected in May 2018, by an on-site survey for the first time. A list was made of the materials comprising a total of 1,288 kinds of 2,318 items. They were classified into five large categories of drawings/maps, books, documents, photos/films, news papers/ magazines, and keepsakes, which, in turn, were reclassified into 21 medium categories. The time of the materials is modern and contemporary times. They include not just those materials related to the operation of the brewery such as management, employment, brewery, etc., but also the materials related to the living culture of the area such as lawsuits, letters, photos, etc.
Those materials in the survey and held by Nampyeong Brewery have following value: Firstly, they have the value as recorded cultural heritage for the modern and contemporary times. Secondly, they have the value to utilize the brewing technique and methods for Makgeoli (unrefined rice wine) of the Nampyeong Brewery. Thirdly, they have the value as materials on the manufacture, sales and distribution of Makgeoli in the region. Fourthly, they have the value in the aspect of restoration and utilization of the space as a modern building. Lastly, they also have the value as research materials for the living culture history in th region of Nampyeong Brewery.
These meaning and value of the materials held by Nampyeong Brewery can be considered as a subject about the way of utilization of those materials. Basically, we need a standard for the classification and arrangement of the recorded cultural heritages of modern and contemporary times. Current task of sorting and listing the materials held by Nampyeong Brewery can be utilized as a guide to prepare the standard. And, the task can be used for the restoration of the Nampyeong Brewery building as well as planning for the rebirth of the space as a place of modern and contemporary times in Nampyeong area. The materials can also be utilized as a resource for developing regional cultural contents along with local community people, and lastly, as an important resource for proceeding with records restoration work in the region.
