대항 공론장과 한국 천주교회 공동체 운동의 통합적 전망: 5·18 공론장의 교회화를 위한 성찰 (An Integrated View of an Alternative Public Sphere and the Korean Catholic Community Movement: Reflection on the Church’s Possible Discourse of the 5·18 Public Sphere)

초록

1980년 5월 광주에서 시민들이 꿈꾸었던 공동체적 이상은 주류 공론장에 대한 대안의 의미를 담은 대항 공론장 개념과 연결된다. 아직까지 진상 규명은 물론이고 왜곡과 폄훼가 이뤄지는 현실에서 39년 전 5월 광주가 꿈꾸었던 공동체적 이상을 오늘의 시대정신으로 살려 내기 위해서는 대항 공론장의 의미를 지닌 대안 공동체 운동이 큰 영감을 줄 수 있기 때문이다. 또한 대안 공동체 운동에 대한 성찰은 복음화 사명을 수행하는 데 어려움을 겪고 있는 교회가 쇄신되기 위한 방편이기도 하다. 탈근대적 전환의 상황에서 일어나고 있는 대안 공동체 운동은 주류 사회 공동체나 국가 권력과의 저항과 결별을 극단화하는 방식이 아니라 본래 우리 스스로 가지고 있었지만 주변화되고 상실됐다고 여겨지는 본성을 회복하고 그에 조응하는 운동의 성격을 드러내는 경향이 강하다. 또한 지배적 주류 공동체만 독점하느라 주변으로 밀려났던 공동체, 아예 배제되거나 태동조차 못했던 소수자 집단의 공동체의 존재가 가능해진다. 나아가 다양한 시대 상황을 반영하듯 다양한 삶의 영역에서 대안 공동체 운동들이 폭넓게 확산된 것도 탈근대 대안 공동체 운동의 특징이다. 이러한 시대 상황을 고려하면서 교회가 쇄신되기 위한 방안으로 대안 공동체 운동을 고민할 필요가 있는데 교회 안으로 눈을 돌려보면 대안 공동체 운동의 공동체 담론과 교회의 공동체 담론과의 상당한 간극을 확인하게 된다. 이 간극을 좁히기 위한 방편으로 두 가지 통합적 전망을 제시하였는데 첫째는 신자, 수도자, 사제가 ‘함께하는 사목’으로 전환하기 위한 통합적 비전의 모색이다. 이 비전은 제2차 바티칸 공의회의 ‘하느님 백성의 교회론’과 최근 프란치스코 교황과 국제신학위원회가 언급한 ‘공동합의성’(synodality) 개념과 연결된다. 둘째는 세상 속 교회 공동체라는 의미에서 ‘지역 사회와 본당을 아우르는 통합적 비전’의 모색이다. 이러한 두 차원의 통합적 전망이 교회 구성원들에게 내면화될 때 복음화 사명의 새 지평이 열릴 수 있을 것이라 본다.

영어초록

During the Gwangju Uprising in May 1980, the community ideal that its citizens dreamed of in the southern city in South Korea is linked to the concept of “counter public sphere” which contains an alternative to the mainstream public sphere. The reason is that an alternative community movement as a counter community movement could give a great inspiration today in reviving the community ideal that was dreamed of in Gwangju in 39 years ago amid the realities of distorting and disparaging the 5·18 Gwangju Uprising in 1980 with no satisfied clarification of what precisely happened then. Also, the reflection on the alternative community movement could be a way in which the Korean Catholic Church having experienced difficulties to fulfill its evangelizing mission. The alternative community movement taking place in the context of the postmodern transition has a strong tendency to avoid extreme resistance nor separation between the mainstream society and the state power. It enables restoration and nurturing of natural elements that were marginalized or disappeared which we originally had. It also makes possible the existence of a community of minority group marginalized by the dominant mainstream community, and regarded as the one totally eliminated or even never been born.
In addition, it is also one of such an alternative community movement’s characteristics that the movements have widely spread in various life domains like reflecting the diverse era. Considering these circumstances, it is necessary to consider the alternative community movement as a way for the church to be renewed. Looking at the church, we will find a significant gap between the community discourse of the alternative community movement and that of the church. In order to narrow the gap, two prospects have been proposed. First, it is search for an integrated vision to transform into a “collaborated pastoral approach” in which laity, Religious, and priests work together. This vision is linked to the concept of the “People of God”, a well known ecclesiology of the Second Vatican Council, and the concept of “Synodality” mentioned recently by Pope Francis and the Vatican’s International Theological Council. The second is an exploration for an integrated vision that encompasses the society and the parish in the sense that the church is a community which is a part of the region and the world. When these integrated views of the two dimensions are internalized by the members of the church, a new horizon of evangelizing mission could be opened.
