초록

양산숙은 임진왜란 때 의병장이다. 당시 많은 의병장이 활약했는데, 이 가운데 두각을 나타냈던 인물이다. 이는 세상에서 말하는 진주 삼장사 중 한 사람으로, 진주성 전투에서 활약상이 역사적으로 입증되고 있다.
양산숙은 가문의 전통과 교육, 삶의 과정을 통해 나라가 위급한 상황에 처하자 곧바로 목숨을 담보로 의병을 일으킬 것을 계획하고 이를 행동과 실행에 옮겼다. 그의 어머니는 자식의 목숨보다 나라의 위급함을 우선해 자식의 의병활동을 허락하고 이를 격려했다.
양산숙의 목숨을 건 행재소 방문은 백성들의 불안을 해소시켜 나라에 대한 의무와 충성심을 고취시켰으며, 조정의 명령이 지방 관아와 병사와 의병에게 체계적으로 전달되었다. 때문에 조정은 왜적과 나라의 현황을 신속하고 정확하게 파악해 전쟁에 대한 대책을 세울 수 있었다.
양산숙은 진주성 전투에서 순절했다. 진주성은 곡창지대 호남으로 가는 길목이기 때문에 임진왜란 당시 매우 중요한 군사적 요충지였다. 진주성 전투에서 병사와 백성의 피눈물은 왜적이 호남으로 향하는 진격을 상당기간 지연시킬 수 있었다. 이는 호남의 곡창지대를 보전함으로써 나라를 지키고 보전할 수 있었다.
양산숙은 의리와 절개의 정신을 몸소 행동으로 실천했다. 그는 의병활동에서 자신의 목숨을 버리면서까지 행동으로 몸소 실천해 진정한 의리정신을 우리에게 보여 주었다. 그의 의리정신과 진주성 전투에서 활약은 미약하나마 임진왜란을 승리로 이끈 하나의 원동력이 되었다고 하겠다.

Yang San-suk was a righteous army leader during the Imjin War (the Japanese invasions of Korea). There were many righteous army leaders at that time, and he stood out among them. He is one of Jinju's three militia leaders as known in the world, and his performance in the battle of Jinju Fortress is historically proven.
Based on his family tradition, education, and life course, Yang San-suk immediately planned and acted on the idea of raising a righteous army at the risk of his life when the country was in dire straits. Yang San-suk's mother prioritized the urgency of the country over her son's life, allowing and encouraging him to join the righteous army activities.
Yang San-suk's life-threatening visit to the King's temporary quarters allayed the people's anxiety and inspired a sense of duty and loyalty to the country, and this enabled to the King's orders to be systematically transmitted to the local government offices and soldiers and the righteous armies. Thus, the government was able to quickly and accurately grasp the current situation of the Japanese army and the country, and to take measures against the war.
Yang San-suk was martyred in the battle of Jinsu Fortress. Jinju Fortress was a very important military point during the Imjin War because it was on the way to Honam, the granary region.
