마태복음 5장 16절의 “착한 행실” (“Good Deeds” in Matthew 5:16)

초록

이 논문은 비기독교 세계와 소통 가능한 가장 중요한 가치 중의 하나인 착한 행실에 관한 연구물이다. 연구 범위는 마 5:13-16절의 착한 행실로 한정되고, 연구 방법은 언어학적 분석을 통한 공시적 고찰 방법과 역사 비평적 분석을 통한 통시적 고찰 방법을 사용했다. 문장론 분석을 통한 마 5:13-16의 구조에 의하면, 착한 행실은 기독자가 행하여 사람들에게 빛으로 드러나야 할 사명이고, 사명 수행의 목적은 하나님께 영광을 돌리는 것이 된다. 의미론적인 분석에서는 주요 단어인 ‘에르곤’의 의미론적인 장을 다루었다. 그 장에 의하면 ‘착한 행실’은 착한 행실을 열심히 하는 자기 백성을 삼기 위한 예수 사역의 목적이 될 정도로 강조된다. 실용론 분석에 의하면, 직설법과 명령법의 이중적인 작성을 통하여 착한 행실 수행을 위한 강력한 독자 유도가 이루어진다. 편집분석에 의하면, 편집은 소금과 빛에 관한 말씀의 처음과 마지막에 집중되어 있고, 강조는 기독자는 착한 행실을 수행하여 하나님에게 영광을 돌려야 한다는 데에 놓여 있다.
이 어구의 산상보훈 안에서의 관련성에 의하면 하늘나라에서 종말적으로 하나님의 아들로 나타날 사람들은 하나님 아버지를 닮는 삶을 통하여 미래에 아들 됨의 상을 받아야만 하고, 원수 사랑을 통하여 자신을 하나님의 아들로 증명해야만 한다. 마태복음 전체에서의 관련성에 의하면, 예수의 인격, 말씀, 행동이 빛이고, 이 빛에 비추인 예수의 제자들도 세상의 빛이다. 그들은 새롭게 된 세상에서는 해와 같이 빛나게 된다.
이상에서 착한 행실은 하나님의 계명, 그의 뜻을 실행하는 행위이고, 율법과 선지자를 통해 전하신 하나님의 말씀을 수행하는 행위이며, 예수가 하나님의 율법과 선지자의 말씀을 새롭게 해석하여 하나님 사랑과 이웃 사랑으로 요약한 것들을 수행하는 행위이고, 전 세계에 중재할 그분의 모든 명령을 실현함으로써 전 세계가 빛으로 만나는 바로 그 행위이다.
바로 이 착한 행실이 하나님의 나라에 들어가는 조건인 ‘더 나은 의’와 결합됨으로써 구원의 길이 되고, 사람들을 실족케 하지 않고 하나님께로 인도하는 좋은 선교 방법도 된다. 착한 행실만이 그들에게 빛으로 나타나 돌이켜 하나님께 찬양과 영광을 돌리게 한다. 그렇다면 이것이 기독교인들이 하나님께 영광을 돌리는 유일한 길이고, 비기독교 세계와 소통 가능한 가장 중요한 성서적 가치가 될 것이다.

영어초록

This is a study of one of the most important values to offer a point of communication with the non-Christian world: Good Deeds. The focus of this paper is restricted to Matthew 5:13-16, and a synchronic assessment based on linguistic analyses and a diachronic assessment based on historical-critical analyses are employed. The syntactic structure of Matthew 5:13-16 reveals that Good Deeds are a Christian’s obligation that he has to reveal onto others as light with the goal of glorifying God. In the semantic analysis, the keyword “ergon” becomes a semantic field in which “Good Deeds” are emphasized to such a degree that they appear as major objective of Christ’s mission in appointing his people. Examined from a pragmatic standpoint, the dual combination of the indicative mood and the imperative mood in this passage constitutes a strong inducement of the reader to conduct Good Deeds. An editorial analysis reveals that the editing is focused on the beginning and end part of the passage on salt and light, and the emphasis is on the Christian’s obligation to conduct Good Deeds in order to glorify God.
Taking into consideration the overall context of the sermon on the mount in which it is embedded, the passage reveals that those who will appear as sons of God at the end of days have to receive this title as reward through a life that resembles God, and prove themselves to be sons of God through love of their enemies. Within the context of the entire book of Matthew, Jesus’ personality, words and actions become the light, and his followers that receive this light are the light of the world. In a renewed world, they will operate as sources of light.
All in all, Good Deeds are God’s commandments to realize his will and follow his words as passed on through the law as well as prophets. Good Deeds further actualize Jesus’ new commandment which he based on a reinterpretation of God’s law and the words of the prophets and can be summarized as love of God and love of your neighbors. Ultimately, Good Deeds are the means by which the world encounters the light of God.
Good Deeds, thus, combine with “a better righteousness” which is a condition to enter the kingdom of God and become a path to salvation and also a way to lead people to God. Good Deeds alone appear as light to them and in turn, give glory to God. Hence, this is the only way for Christians to give glory to God and the most important biblical value to communicate with the non-Christian world.
