한글 기본자형과 변이자 생성 요인 (A Study on the Forms of Basic Letters and Primary Factors Generating Allo-letter)

초록

기본자형이 갖추어야 할 조건으로 세 가지가 있다. 첫째 시각에 의존하는 전형성이다. 전형성이란 어떠한 현상을 명확하게 설명할 수 있을때 부여되는 것이다. 둘째, 변이자에 나타나는 변이 현상을 설명할 수있는 형태라야 한다. 셋째, 기본자형은 낱자형으로 추상적이다.
자형의 변이에 작용하는 요인으로 ‘글자생활의 요인, 서사도구와 필기 재료의 요인, 서사방법상의 요인, 인체공학적 요인, 사회적 요인’이있다. 글자생활의 요인은 ‘모아쓰기’ 방식에 대한 것으로 ‘모아쓰기’로말미암아 자형의 변이가 발생한다는 것이다. 서사도구와 필기 재료도자형의 변이에 작용한다. 필기구가 ‘붓’에서 ‘펜’으로 바뀌면 자연히자형에도 변화가 생길 수밖에 없다. 가로쓰기, 세로쓰기와 같은 서사방법도 자형의 변이에 작용한다. 세로쓰기는 글자의 연쇄에서 세로축을 형성하며 가로쓰기는 가로축을 형성한다. 축이 다름에 따라 자형도달리 나타난다. 오른손으로 필서하느냐 왼손으로 필서하느냐에 따라자형이 달라진다. 이는 인체공학적인 현상으로 자형의 변이에 관여한다. 사회적 요인은 인위적인 현상에 해당하는 것이지만 새로운 자형이제시된다는 점에서 자형 변이의 요인으로 삼을 수 있다.

영어초록

The forms of basic letters require three different conditions for their formation: (a) vision-dependent typicality, which is granted only when an explicit explanation is available;(b) the attainment of such a form that can encompass all possible variation phenomena found in the allo-letters; (c) identicality with the form of the Hangul alphabet, which is abstract by nature.
The variation in the forms of letters should be attributed to such factors as life of the writing system, tools for handwriting, ergonomics, and societal changes. The factor classifiable into life of the writing system concerns the system of ligature as it is ligature that may cause variations in the forms of letters. Another factor that involves the tools for handwriting is inseparable from possible variations in any given forms of letters. Having changed from ‘brushes’ to ‘pens’, for example, the handwriting tools must have affected the types of letters. The handwriting manners (e.g. horizontal writing, vertical writing, etc.) have a significant impact as well. The vertical writing generates a vertical axis in the letter sequences whereas the horizontal writing generates a horizontal one in them. In other words, the types of letters go through different kinds of variation according to axis-specificity in writing. The ergonomics-related variations can also be seen in the forms of letters. As almost every letter writing is conducted in aid of hands (i.e. manually), whether transcribed by the right hand or the left can change the types of letters. As to how the societal factors give rise to variation phenomena, consideration of social conditions is worth the effort knowing that new types of letters can be introduced at times, albeit artificial intervention.
