학습자 자기평가를 통한 학습자 오류 분석: 노-한 동시통역 학습자를 중심으로 (Error Analysis of Interpreting Learners through Self-Assessment: Focused on Russian-Korean Simultaneous Interpreting Learners)

본 연구는 러-한 동시통역 학습자의 자기 평가 양상을 고찰하여 학습자가 스스로 평가하는 통역 오류의 유형과 그 원인을 고찰하는 것이 목적이다. 연구자가 교수자로 있는 국내 통역전문교육기관에서 노-한 동시통역 과목을 수강하는 10명의 학습자에게 수업 중 자신이 통역한 통역을 듣고 스스로 평가지를 작성하도록 하였다. 학습자들이 작성한 자기 평가지를 분석한 결과 학습자는 오역, 누락, 표현을 중심으로 자신의 통역 품질을 평가하고 있다는 사실을 확인하였다. 연구자는 학습자의 이러한 자기평가 방식을 개선하기 위하여 Gile(1995)의 동시통역 모델에 따른 4개 하위영역과 Riccardi(2002)의 통역평가 기준을 교육하고 2차로 평가지를 작성하게 하였다. 분석 결과 학습자는 1차 자기평가와 다르게 결과물 중심 평가가 아닌 과정 중심으로 평가하는 것을 확인하였으며, 평가지의 키워드를 분석한 결과 동시통역의 4개 하위영역인 ‘청취분석’, ‘작업기억’, ‘발화’, ‘조율’ 중 청취분석 단계에서 학습자의 오류가 가장 많이 발생하는 것을 확인하였다. 이후 자기평가에 관한 교육의 필요성과 효과를 묻는 설문조사를 시행한 결과 설문조사에 응한 학습자 전원은 자기 평가를 위한 교육이 필요하다고 인식하고 있음을 확인하고, 자기 평가 교육이 효과가 있는 것으로 평가하였다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the patterns of self-assessment among Russian-Korean simultaneous interpreting learners, focusing on the types and causes of interpretation errors that learners evaluate themselves. Ten learners enrolled in a Russian-Korean simultaneous interpreting course at a professional interpretation training institution in Korea, where the researcher serves as an instructor, were asked to listen to their interpreting performances during class and complete a self-assessment form. Analysis of these self-assessments revealed that learners primarily evaluated their interpreting quality based on mistranslations, omissions, and expressions.
To improve the learners' self-assessment methods, the researcher provided instruction based on Gile’s (1995) model of simultaneous interpreting, including its four sub-components, and Riccardi’s (2002) criteria for interpreting evaluation. The learners then completed the second round of self-assessments. The analysis of these assessments indicated that, unlike their initial self-assessments, the learners shifted from product-oriented evaluations to process-oriented ones. An analysis of the keywords used in the assessments showed that most errors occurred in the “listening” phase, one of the four sub-components of simultaneous interpreting, which also includes “memory,” “production,” and “coordination.” Additionally, a survey on the necessity and effectiveness of education on self-assessment was conducted. All respondents agreed that self-assessment education was necessary, and evaluated it as effective. This study highlights the need for and the benefits of educating interpreting learners on self-assessment, based on their evaluation of interpreting errors and the reasons behind them.
