초록

해방 후 2007년까지 역사 교육과정과 교과서는 국내외 정치적 변동 및 학계‧교육 현장의 요구와 맞물려 우여곡절을 겪었다. 특히 탈식민 과제가 여타 교과에 비해 매우 중차대했기 때문에 교육과정과 교과서 개편을 둘러싼 진통이 적지 않았다. 이 가운데 한국사‧동양사‧서양사 교육의 상호 관계를 둘러싸고 각 시기마다 역사 서사 구성이 상이하였다. 이른바 자국사-세계사라는 이분주의 구성 방식과 자국사-동양사-서양사라는 삼분주의 구성 방식의 선택 문제였다. 그것은 이들 개별 역사 교과목에 대한 인식의 차이와 이를 둘러싼 국내외 환경이 국내외 정치 변동에 못지 않게 지대하였기 때문이다.
그리하여 해방 직후에는 기존의 삼분주의 구성 방식을 답습하되 일본사 축소라는 내용 구성을 취했지만 6‧25전쟁 이후 반공주의와 ‘中共’ 서사의 확산, 동양정체성론의 심화로 자국사-세계사라는 대한제국기의 이분주의 구성 방식으로 회귀했다. 이후 한일 역사 갈등을 해소하려는 노력과 한국의 민주화에 힘입어 <동아시아사> 교과서가 2007년 탄생하였다. 그것은 다시 삼분주의 구성 방식의 부활을 의미했다. 그러나 이러한 <동아시아사>의 탄생은 해방 직후 식민사관에서 탈피하지 못한 한국사-서유럽 중심의 서양사-중국 중심의 동양사라는 삼분주의 구성 방식과 달리 식민사관에서 탈피한 한국사-교류와 교역 중심의 세계사-동아시아 3국의 연계성이 강화된 동아시아사로 정립되었다는 점에서 역사적 의미가 적지 않다.

영어초록

From the liberation until 2007, the history curriculum and textbooks in Korea have undergone numerous challenges in line with domestic and international political changes, as well as demands from academia and educational fields. In particular, since the post-colonial issues were more important in history than in other school subjects, there were considerable difficulties surrounding revisions of the curriculum and textbooks. Among these challenges was the structure of historical narratives, which varied from period to period concerning the interrelationship between Korean, Eastern, and Western history education. The issue was whether to adopt a dichotomous structure of national history and world history, or a tripartite structure of national, Eastern, and Western history. This was important because the difference in perception of these individual history subjects, and the domestic and international environment surrounding them, were as great as the political changes home and abroad.
Immediately after the liberation, the previously established tripartite structure was maintained, although the content on Japanese history was reduced. However, following the Korean War, anti-communism, the spread of the “Chinese Communist Party” narrative, and the deepening of Eastern stagnation theory led to the return of a dichotomous structure used during the Korean Empire, that of national history and world history.
Since then, efforts to resolve the historical conflicts between Korea and Japan, along with Korea’s democratization, culminated in the introduction of “East Asian History” textbooks in 2007. This also marked the revival of the tripartite structure. However, the creation of “East Asian History” holds historical significance as it was different from the previous tripartite structure: a Korean history still bound to colonial views, a Western history focused on Western Europe, and an Eastern history centered around China. Instead, it was composed of a Korean history that broke away from colonial views, a World history centered around exchange and trade, and an East Asian history that emphasizes the relationship between Korea, Japan, and China.
