교회 문화센터의 특성과 과제: 문화복지 활성화를 위한 일 고찰 (Characteristics and Tasks of the Church Cultural Center: A Study on the Activation of Cultural Welfare)

초록

본고는 현재 많은 개신교 교회가 운영하고 있는 문화센터 프로그램들을 통해 문화복지가 활성화된다면 복지의 불평등성을 극복하고 문화선교에 기여할 수 있다는 점에서 그 특성과 과제를 고찰한 것이다. 먼저 교회 문화센터의 설립 목적은 문화사역과 지역사회 봉사로 분류되지만, 문화사역은 본질적으로 지역사회에 초점을 두고, 지역사회 봉사 또한 그 안에 사역을 함축하고 있어 큰 차이는 없다. 문화센터의 유형은 이용자를 중심으로 보면 크게 관람과 수강으로 나누어지는데, 이들은 각각 랑스테드가 분류한 문화의 민주화와 문화민주주의에 해당된다. 이들은 충분하지는 못하지만 정부가 제공하지 못한 문화 향수를 어느 정도 보완하는 역할을 하는 것으로 보인다. 다음 문화센터는 ‘문화’와 함께 지역사회복지적 특성을 갖는다. 교회 문화센터는 대부분 지역주민과의 소통을 염두에 둔 공간을 만들고, 취약계층에 대한 지원을 담당하면서 교회가 지역사회의 일원임을 인식하고 지역사회의 발전과 복지를 지향하고 있다. 현재 교회 문화센터의 당면 과제로는 기독교 문화의 정형성 및 상업화를 들 수 있다. 전자는 교회 문화센터의 강좌들이 시대의 취향이나 트렌드에 몰두하면서 문화의 정신적인 측면에 대한 고려가 결여되고, 반면 동적이고 감각에 치중한 강좌들을 통해 기독교 문화의 정형성이 암암리에 형성되고 있다는 것이다. 후자는 교회 문화센터의 강좌 수와 다루는 범위가 거의 기업화되고 경쟁력을 갖추게 되면서 비종교 문화센터의 도전을 받고 있는 것이다. 이러한 도전들은 교회 문화센터가 고유한 정체성을 보여주지 않은 데 기인하는 것으로, 이 점은 실종된 종교성의 회복과 문화복지의 특성 강화를 통해서 극복할 수 있다. 종교성의 회복이란 문화센터가 기업이 아니고 지역사회를 위한 문화사역의 일환으로 문화복지를 실천하는 단체임을 표명하는 것이다.

영어초록

This paper examines the characteristics and tasks of cultural centers based on the understanding that if cultural welfare is activated based on the centers’ programs, it can overcome the inequality of welfare and contribute to the cultural mission. First, the purpose of the establishment of the church cultural center is classified into cultural ministry and community service. However, the difference is small as cultural ministry essentially focuses on the local community and community service also implies ministry. The types of cultural centers are largely divided into viewing and lectures, focusing on users, and these correspond to the democratization of culture and cultural democracy as classified by Langsted, respectively. These are not enough, but they seem to play a role in supplementing, to some extent, the cultural needs that the government cannot satisfy. Second, cultural centers have community welfare characteristics alongside “culture.” The church cultural center mostly creates a space considering communication with local residents, and it is responsible for supporting the vulnerable, recognizing that the church is part of the community and aiming for the development and welfare of the community. The current challenges of the church cultural center include the formalization and commercialization of Christian culture. The former means that the lectures at the church cultural center are immersed in the tastes and trends of the times, lacking consideration for the spiritual aspect of the culture, while the formality of Christian culture is being formed implicitly through dynamic and sensory lectures. The latter is being challenged by the non-religious cultural center as the number of courses and the scope to be handled by the church cultural center have become almost commercialized and competitive. These challenges are due to the church cultural center’s failure to show its unique identity, which can be overcome by restoring the missing religious character and strengthening the characteristics of cultural welfare. The restoration of religion means that the cultural center is not a corporation, but an organization that practices cultural welfare as a part of its cultural ministry for the local community.
