초록

Purpose: This study categorized the work-family balance for married nurses during the period of family expansion and then applied the Q-methodology to provide basic data for developing customized family-friendly policies suitably attuned to the characteristics of each category type. Methods: The participants were married nurses working in hospitals during the period of family expansion. A total of 219 Q-populations were selected through a literature review and in-depth interviews. Then, 39 Q-samples were selected, and 32 P-samples were extracted at online cafes and hospitals in Korea. After the subjects performed Q-sorting, they filled out the reasons for choosing the statement classified as extreme. The data were analyzed using the PC-QUANL Program. Results: The subjects were classified into four types as follows: 1) Harmony in work-family balance, 2) Crisis in work-family balance, 3) Family-centered work-family balance, and 4) Work-centered work-family balance. Conclusion: Customized family-friendly policies considering the characteristics of each type should be developed to ensure that the careers of married nurses during the period of their family expansion period are not interrupted due to the requirements of childcare or job change, thus enabling them to work for a long time as skilled and experienced nurses.
