초록

최근 동북아시아는 정치, 경제적 급부상과 포스트모더니즘 문화 현상으로 또 하나의 주류 문화로 주목 받게 되었다. 이것은 동북아 국가들의 자문화에 대한 긍지와 관심을 높게 하였으며, 동북아 예술 또한 재평가를 통해 제 위상을 찾아야 할 필요성이 요구되고 있다.
따라서 본 연구에서는 동북아의 중심 국가인 한국, 중국, 일본의 예술 분야 중 유구한 전통과 축적된 기술로 찬란하게 꽃피웠던 동양의 목판화를 토대로 그 전통을 이어받아 현대적 감각으로 창작되고 있는 현대 목판화를 연구 분석해 보았다.
동양에서는 자연주의적 공생(共生) 정신으로 자연 친화적인 목판화가 꾸준히 발전되어왔다. 한국의 경우, 단색 목판화의 간결함과 목판의 특성을 극대화한 자연스러운 각법(刻法), 소박한 미의식의 표현력 등 목판화 전통을 이어받아 현대적 감성을 가미하여 다양한 한국적 특색을 지닌 현대 목판화가 제작되었다. 특히 한국 현대 목판화는 일정한 틀에 얽매이지 않고 자유로운 표현과 레이저 커팅 등과 같은 다양한 목판 기법이 시도되고 있다. 중국의 현대 목판화는 전통 판화의 기술력을 바탕으로 사회주의적 이미지를 결합시켜 중국만의 독특한 역사적 인식과 상황을 표현함으로써 세계인의 주목을 받고 있다. 일본의 현대 목판화는 우키요에(浮世繪) 다색목판화의 특성을 이어받아 화려하고 정교한 기술을 조화시켜 특유의 일본적 미감을 보여주고 있다. 일본 현대 목판화는 동양적 특징과 정치(精緻)한 표현으로 국제 현대판화미술계에서 위상을 높였을 뿐 아니라 국제미술시장에서도 그 가치를 인정받고 있다.
동양에서 꽃피웠던 목판화의 전통을 기반으로 한, 중, 일 현대 목판화가들은 시대적 감성을 뛰어넘는 현대적 작품을 창작하며 역사적, 지역적 한계를 넘어 세계에서 확고한 위상을 정립해 가고 있다.

영어초록

Recently, Northeast Asia has been receiving attention as a mainstream culture, due to the rapid emergence of political and economic trends and the phenomenon of postmodernism. Accordingly, cultural pride and concern of Northeast Asian nations have been enhanced, and subsequently, the need for finding its position through reevaluation is required for the arts of Northeast Asia.
Accordingly, this research studies and analyzes the modern woodcut, which is created with a modern sense as well as succeeding to the long tradition of the oriental woodcut, brilliantly booming based on time-honored tradition and accumulated technology among the art fields of Korea, China, and Japan, which are the leading nations of Northeast Asia.
Nature-friendly woodcut has been constantly developed under the naturalistic symbiotic spirits in the East. In case of Korea, contemporary arts of woodcut that hold various features of Korea have been produced by adding the modern sense to the tradition of woodcut such as a natural method of engraving, maximizing the elegance of a single color and characteristics of woodcut. Especially, various techniques of woodcut such as liberal expressions and laser cutting, which are not tied to the fixed frame, are attempted. Modern woodcut of China has attracted the attention of people around the world by expressing the historic recognition and circumstance of China through combining socialistic image with arts based on the techniques of traditional engraving. Modern arts of woodcut in Japan coordinate extraordinary and sophisticated technology with rational and realistic attitudes by succeeding to the characteristics of Ukiyo-e multicolored woodcut, and showing the esthetic sensibility, distinct to Japan. Currently, the contemporary woodcut of Japan enhanced its standing in the art association of International contemporary engraving as a representation of eastern and political features, and gained its value in the international art market.
Contemporary artists of woodcut in Korea, China, and Japan have established its standing in the world by creating contemporary works, exceeding the sensibility of times, and going beyond historic and geographical limits.
