정지상 시의 장소성에 대한 일고찰—서경을 중심으로 (A Study on the placeness of Jung JI-sang’s Poetry —Focused on Seokyung)

초록

이 글에서는 정지상 삶의 주요 국면 및 체험에 대한 문학적 반응으로서의 시를 중심으로 ‘서경’ 나아가 ‘선계’라는 특정 장소에 대한 정지상 개인의 고유한 경험과 의식을 들여다보고 그 의미를 찾아보았다. 정지상의 서정적 비애와 소외의식, 그리고 ‘서경’에 대한 자부심과 환향(還鄕) 소망, ‘노장적 자연-선계’를 향한 관심에 대해 장소성 중심의 접근을 시도한 것이다.
정지상 시에는 ‘서경인’이라는 의식에 기반한 특수성이 드러난다. ‘서경인’은 옛 왕도의 주체로서 자부심을 지녔지만 오랜 기간 정치의 중심지가 아닌 주변부로 밀려난 현실, 그 상실과 소외에서 비롯된 비애를 내재한 존재들이다. 따라서 노장적인 취향, 서경천도운동에서 표명된 자주 의식, 이를 뒷받침하는 풍수도참에 대한 경도 등이 나타난다. 정지상 시에 나타난 현실이나 세계는 ‘서경인’으로서 그의 이념이 포착한 현실이고 세계인 것이다.
‘서경’은 정지상에게 소외와 상실 체험으로서 비애(悲哀)․이수(離愁)와 환향(還鄕) 체험에 의해 환기된, 왕도 회복에의 희망과 기쁨으로서의 자긍과 낙관이 교차하는 곳이었다. 소외와 상실의 정서는 청년기 이별시들에 공통적이었는데, 과거의 영광으로 퇴락해 버린 서경의 상황이 정지상 개인의 체험과 맞물려, 떠나야 하는 현실에 대한 비애와 좌절, 고독감으로 표출되고 있었다. ‘서경’에 내재한 근원적 비애가 애상적인 정조로 드러나고 있는 것이다. 급제 후, ‘서경’은 관인으로서 정지상의 변화된 장소감이 담겨있었다. ‘서경’의 번화함과 기상, 풍류에 대해 득의와 희망, 자긍과 낙관의 자부심이 표출되어 있었다. ‘서경’의 위상과 전통을 확인시키고 ‘서경’ 천도(遷都)의 당위성을 뒷받침하는 낙관의 표출인 것이다.
‘老莊的 自然-仙界’에서는 세속적이며 유한한 인간사를 뛰어넘는 탈속과 평화, 영원과 자유에 대한 희구를 감지할 수 있었다. ‘서경’에 대한 환향(還鄕) 의지가 외적 지향점이라면 고독과 가난, 소외와 유랑, 현실적 삶에 대한 성찰과 고민 끝에 도달한 ‘선계’에의 동경은 그 내적 지향점이라 할 수 있다. 그에게 ‘선계’는 ‘서경’의 장소체험 끝에 도달한 승화된 이상향, 위로와 소망의 장소로서 ‘서경’과 동일한 장소성을 지닌 곳이다. ‘선계’는 노장적 감수성과 도교적 상상력으로 빚어낸 ‘서경’인 것이다. 이는 모두 고향 ‘서경’에 내재한 도선적․불교적․풍수도참적 성향의 표출이며, 아름답고 순수한 자연으로 표상되는 이상향으로서 평화롭고 자유로우며, 친밀하고 안정적인 정서의 지향점이었던 것이다.

영어초록

In this thesis, I have tried to explore Jung JI-sang’s own individual consciousness and experience about the city "Seokyung" furthermore a specific location of "dwelling place of Taoist hermit" through poetry as a literary reaction for experiences and turning points of his life. And then I figure out the meaning of them. It is those that attempted to approach to lyrical sadness and sense of estranging, a pride for the "Seokyung" and hope for homecoming, an interest toward "Taoistic nature - dwelling place of Taoist hermit" of Jung JI-sang with focusing on the placeness.
Particularity based on the sense of "people of Seokyung" is manifested in poetry of Jung JI-sang. "people of Seokyung" were proud of as main agents of the old capital, but they were concealed the reality which they had been ousted from political center to the periphery for the long period of time and a sorrow from the loss and estrangement in their chest. Therefore, there are Taoistic preference and sense of self-reliance stated by the "movement of a transferal capital to Seokyung", inclination toward geomancy which supported them theoretically. Reality and world appeared in the poetry of Jung JI-sang were captured by his philosophy as "people of Seokyung".
"Seokyung" was the place where optimism and self-esteem crosses as joy and hope for the recovery of the capital that had been aroused by an experience of homecoming, sorrow and a parting gloom to Jung JI-sang. Emotion of loss and estrangement were appeared commonly in adolescent farewell poetry. It was expressed in frustration, feeling of loneliness and sadness for the reality which he had been forced to leave that circumstances of Seokyung as decayed glory came with Jung JI-sang’s individual experience. Sourceful grief inherent in Seokyung was appeared as an emotion of sadness. After he passed the state examination, he faced Seokyung with a changed sense of place as an officer. Flourish and vigor of Seokyung, hope and prosperity to the taste for the arts, self-respect pride of optimism and self-esteem were expressed. It was a expression of optimism which supported an appropriateness of the transferal capital to "Seokyung" and confirmed a tradition and status of Seokyung.
I perceived an aspiration for the eternity, freedom, unconventionality and peace over a limited human history which is secular and ever-changing in "Taoistic nature - dwelling place of Taoist hermit". If homecoming volition for "Seokyung" was an external aiming point, hanker for "dwelling place of Taoist hermit" where reached after the end of introspecting and worrying about realistic life such as a loneliness, poverty, isolation and wandering would be an internal aiming point. "dwelling place of Taoist hermit" was a spiritualized utopia where the place could reach the end of the experience of locations to Jung JI-sang. The place has common placeness with "Seokyung" as a place of consolation and hope. "dwelling place of Taoist hermit" is made "Seokyung" with Taoistic imagination and Taoistic sensibility. These are all the expression of Taoistic, Buddhist and geomantic inclination included in hometown "Seokyung". They are also the aiming points of peaceful, free, intimate and stable emotion as an utopia that is represented as pure and beautiful nature.
