대학 글쓰기 교재의 구성에 관한 일고찰 (A Study on the Organization of a Teaching Material for College Writing)

초록

이 글에서는 주요 대학 교재에 나타난 구성 체제의 특징을 토대로 중등 교육과정의 쓰기 교육과 변별되어야 할 대학 글쓰기 교재의 구성 요소를 검토하였다. 이어 대학 글쓰기 교재의 구성 원리 및 관련 사항을 논의하였다.
교재 구성의 체제는 필수/중핵 영역과 선택/심화 영역을 각 대학이 표방하는 교육 이념과 목표에 따라 유연하게 설계하는 방식이어야 한다. 이를 위해서는 대학의 교양교육 체제에서 글쓰기 관련 심화․연계 과목의 개발이 필수적이다. 또한 글쓰기 교재의 구성 원리에서는 통합적 쓰기의 문제가 핵심이다. 사실상 읽기 교재에 가깝거나 텍스트 중심의 글쓰기를 극복하는 교재여야 한다. 따라서 읽기와 쓰기의 연계 원리가 모호하거나 불철저하게 구현되고 있는 교재의 한계를 넘어 ‘사회 문화적 맥락’, ‘독자 환경’, ‘담화 공동체적인 특성’을 적극적으로 고려하는 통합적 쓰기를 고민할 시점이다. 평가의 문제, 읽기 자료의 다각화 및 정교화 논의 역시 이런 맥락에서 언급하였다.
과다한 이론과 유형을 담고 있는 현행 고등학교 독서․작문 교과서의 내용 체계는 현실적으로 재구성할 필요가 있다. 화법, 작문, 독서, 문법의 각 영역 간 연계와 심화 역시 요구된다. 아울러 고등학교에서의 글쓰기 및 학습활동이 주로 모둠 활동 및 역할 분담 형태로 진행되는 점을 감안하면, 대학의 글쓰기는 개인별 글쓰기가 강화되어야 한다. 고등학교의 읽기가 부분을 수록하거나 파편적 읽기로 제시될 수밖에 없는 형태이기 때문에 대학에서는 긴 호흡의 읽기, 나아가 하나의 완결된 텍스트 전체를 대상으로 하는 읽기, 그리고 읽기와 쓰기를 연계한 학술적 담화공동체의 통합적 글쓰기로 정향(定向)될 필요가 있다.

영어초록

This study examined essential areas or elements for the organization of a teaching material for college writing, reviewed its components that should be distinguished from writing education in the secondary curriculum based on the characteristics of major college teaching materials in terms of organizational system, and discussed the organizational principles and concerned matters of a teaching material for college writing.


The organizational system of a teaching material should flexibly design the required/core areas and elective/enrichment areas according to the educational ideologies and objectives of each college. Essential to that is the development of enrichment and connection courses related to writing in the college system of liberal education. The core of the organizational principles of a writing teaching material is integrated writing. A teaching material should actually be close to a reading teaching material or help to overcome text-based writing. It is time to contemplate integrated writing to actively consider "social and cultural contexts," "readers' environments," and "discourse community characteristics" beyond the limitations of teaching materials in which the connection principles between reading and writing are vague or embodied incompletely. It was in that context that the study discussed the issue of evaluation and the diversification and sophistication of reading materials.


The current high school reading and composition textbooks should be reorganized in their content systems realistically as they contain an excess of theories and types. It is also required to achieve connection and enrichment among the narration, composition, reading, and grammar domains. Considering that writing and learning activities usually take place in the forms of group performance and role division in high school, individual writing should be reinforced in college. Since high schools cannot help offering only partial and fragmentary reading, colleges should be oriented towards long-breath reading, reading the entire texts, and integrated writing in an academic discourse community based on connections between reading and writing.
