공간구문론을 통한 천안시 성환읍 공간구조 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Spatial Structure Characteristics of Seonghwan-eup, Cheonan-si)

초록

(연구 배경 및 목적) 도시의 공간구조는 단순히 기능적 환경의 집합이 아닌 역사와 문화, 사회경제적 배경을 유추할 수 있는 요인으로, 앞으로의 개발 방향과 재생전략의 수립을 위한 중요한 근거이다. 현재, 지방소멸이 도시 정책적으로 중요한 키워드로 떠오를 만큼 우리나라의 지방 소도시들은 다양한 쇠퇴 양상을 보이며, 이러한 현상의 개선을 위해 사회경제적 접근뿐만 아니라 공간적으로 다양한 연구가 필요한 실정이다. 본 연구는 천안시 서북구 최북단에 있는 성환읍 성환리 일대를 대상지로 한다. 대상지는 영남과 호남으로 향하는 역사적 육로교통의 요충지이며 지역 상권의 중심지로 약 100년의 역사를 자랑하는 이화 시장 등 풍부한 지역 자산을 보유하고 있으나, 이러한 자원의 재생을 위한 활용과 지속성의 유지에 어려움이 있는 상황이다. 이에 본 연구는 대상지가 가진 공간구조의 변화와 현황을 문헌 및 공간 구문론(Space Syntax)을 통해 조사·분석하여 지역이 가진 공간적 잠재성과 한계를 도출하는 것을 목적으로 하며, 이를 바탕으로 시사점과 재생전략을 제안하고자 한다. (연구 방법) 본 연구는 다음의 단계로 이루어진다. 1) 문헌조사를 통해 대상지의 사회경제적 현황과 가로망의 형성과정을 조사하고, 그 결과를 바탕으로 공간구조의 특징을 고찰한다. 2) 공간 구문론(Space Syntax) 분석을 통해 여러 변수를 도출하고, 각 지표값을 바탕으로 공간을 해석한다. 3) 이러한 두 단계를 통해 나타난 각 결과 간의 상관관계를 분석하고 종합하여 대상지의 공간구조적인 특성을 도출한다. 4) 도출된 특성을 바탕으로 대상지의 공간구조적 한계, 지역재생을 위한 시사점을 정리하여 결과를 요약하고 연구의 확장을 위한 방향을 제시한다. (결과) 본 연구의 방법에 따른 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대상지의 공간구조는 전체적인 통합성이 매우 부족하며 분리가 심각한 상태이다. 둘째, 대상지 내 중심공간은 성환역과 성환 버스터미널이며 통합된 구조에서 중심을 이루기보단 분리된 형태에서 두 중심이 형성된 것으로 나타난다. 셋째, 대상지의 역사·문화적 중요공간인 이화 시장의 경우 성환 중앙로가 가진 위계의 변화에 따라 현재 공간의 중요성과 접근성, 영향력이 다소 부족한 것으로 나타난다. 넷째, 대상지의 전체 공간구조는 공간의 명료도가 부족하여 공간의 인지와 예측에 어려움이 있다. (결론) 대상지는 전체적으로 공간 구조상의 분리가 심각한 상태로 중심지 또한 분화된 상태이며, 이는 전체 공간에 대한 인지와 중심지의 활성화에 직접 영향을 미치는 요인이라 볼 수 있다. 지역 지생의 방향이 지역의 주요공간인 이화 시장의 활용을 중심으로 이뤄진다고 보았을 때 현재 공간구조 상 분리가 심각한 성환역 인근과 터미널 사이 공간의 개선이 필수적이며, 이는 지역의 통합도 향상과 이화 시장의 공간 중요성 및 접근성 상승에 긍정적인 영향을 제공할 것으로 예상된다.

영어초록

(Background and Purpose) The spatial structure of a city is a crucial factor that offers insights into its history, culture, and socioeconomic background. It serves as a significant foundation for the establishment of future development directions and regeneration strategies. Currently,‘local extinction’has emerged as a significant keyword in urban policy discussions, prompted by the various patterns of decline observed in small rural cities in Korea. In addition to socioeconomic approaches, diverse spatial research is needed to address this situation. The study site is Seonghwan-ri, Seonghwan-eup, located in the northernmost part of Seobuk-gu, Cheonan-si, possesses rich local assets, including including its historical role as a transportation hub for Yeongnam and Honam, and the presence of Ewha Market, which has nearly 100 years of history as the center of the local commerce. However, challenges persist in maintaining sustainability and effectively utilizing these resources for regional regeneration. This study aims to investigate and analyzes the changes and current status of the spatial structure of the study site through literature and Space Syntax to derive the spatial potential and limitations of the area. Based on this analysis, implications are presented, and regeneration strategies are proposed. (Method) The methodology of this study encompasses the following steps. 1) Investigate the socio-economic status of the site and the street network formation process through literature review, and incorporate these findings into the analysis of spatial structure characteristics. 2) Derive various variables through space syntax analysis, and analyze the space based on each index value. 3) The spatial structural characteristics of the site are derived by analyzing the correlation between each result obtained the initial two steps. 4) Based on the findings, the implications for regional regeneration are summarized, and the direction for the expansion of the study is presented. (Results) The overall spatial structure of the site exhibits poor integration and is in a serious state of segregation. Seonghwan Station and Seonghwan Bus Terminal serve as central spaces within the site, but instead of forming an integrated center, they appear divided into two separate entities. The significance, accessibility, and influence of Ehwa Market's current space have diminished due to the change in the hierarchy of Seonghwanjungang-ro. The site's overall spatial structure lacks intelligibility, making it challenging to perceive and anticipate the overall spatial layout. (Conclusions) The site as a whole is marked by severe spatial segregation, and even its center exhibits a divided state. These factors directly influence how the overall space is perceived and the activation of the center. Given that the direction of regional regeneration is centered on the utilization of Ehwa Market, improving the space between the terminal and the Seonghwan Station becomes essential. This is expected to have a positive impact on increasing spatial importance and accessibility.
