정호승 시에서 ‘사건의 결과인 죽음’의 형상화 양상과 함의 (A Study on the poetic embodiment and implication of ‘death caused by the event’ in the early poetry of Jeong Ho-seung)

초록

본고는 정호승의 초기시에 나타나는 죽음의 형상화 양상을 사건의 맥락에서 분석하고 그 함의를 밝힌 것이다. 그의 초기시가 대부분 역사적‧사회적 사건을 배경으로 하며, 시인의 시선이 사건 자체보다는 사건이 강제한 죽음, 즉 ‘사건의 결과인 죽음’에 닿아있음에 착안한 것이다. 1970-80년대 한국 사회를 지배한 사건인 산업화, 전쟁, 군부독재가 강제한 죽음사건을 어떤 방식으로 형상화하고, 그 죽음에 어떤 의미를 부여하는지를 살폈다.
정호승의 시에서 죽음사건의 형상화는 사건의 배치와 지배소의 반복을 중심으로 이뤄진다. 시 한 편에서 시간과 공간을 가로지르는 두 사건을 병치하거나, 하나의 사건이 시 몇 편을 관통하도록 연대기적으로 배열함으로써 역사적‧사회적 지평에서 죽음사건에 의미를 부여하고 그 함의를 산출해낸다. 또한, 지배소의 반복과 변주를 통해 죽음의 의미를 강화하거나 애도 행위와 ‘저항의 힘’의 반복적인 생성을 지시한다.
현실세계의 죽음을 노래하는 정호승의 초기시는 주체가 사라진 공간에서 이뤄진다. 또한, 죽음사건을 반복 재현함으로써 죽음이 끊임없이 우리를 향해 있음을 상기시키면서도 그 죽음을 대립의 부정성으로 환원하지 않는다. 아울러 지배담론에 의해 조작되고 은폐되었던 죽음의 주체를 드러내고 있다.
정호승의 시는 현실이 강제한 죽음을 집요하게 성찰한다. 죽음에 대한 이러한 반성을 토대로 그는 필연적으로 도래해야만 하는 긍정적이고 미래지향적인 삶을 소망하고 있다. 이런 점에서 정호승의 시는 역사인식에 충실한 시세계를 보여주는 것이다. 본고의 의의는 정호승의 초기시에 대한 평가가 보편적 슬픔의 정서에 기반한 사랑과 희망의 시이며, 정호승의 시적 태도를 관조적 태도로 국한해서는 안 된다는 점을 분명히 한 데 있다.

영어초록

This study analyzes the embodiment of death in the early poetry of Ho-seung Jeong as the context of the events. Most of his early poetry is based on historical events, and it’s got the idea from fact that the poet's gaze touched on “death caused by the event” rather than the event itself. In the 1970s and 1980s, the events that dominated Korean society such as industrialization, war, and military dictatorship forced deaths to be embodied in a way and what meaning was given to those deaths.
In the poetry, the embodiment of the death event is achieved through the arrangement of the events and repetition of the dominant. By juxtaposing two events crossing time and space in one poem, or by chronologically arranging one event to pass through several poems, it gives meaning to the death event in the historical and social horizon and calculates its implications. It also reinforces the meaning of death through repetition and variation of the dominant, and request the mourning, and directs the repetitive generate of ‘power of resistance’.
Jeong Ho-seung's early poetry that sings about death in the real world takes place in a space where the subject disappears. Also, by repeating the death event, it reminds us that death is constantly toward us, but does not reduce the death to the negativity of confrontation. Rather, by repeatedly imagining real events, it reminds us that death is constantly toward us while acting as a driving force from negative to positive. It reminds us that death is constantly directed at us by repeatedly embodiment the actual event. In addition, it is significant in that it reveals the subject of death that was manipulated and concealed by the dominant discourse.
Jeong Ho-seung's poem persistently reflects on death forced by reality. Based on this reflection on death, Jeong Ho-seung hopes for a positive and future-oriented life that inevitably must come. In this respect, Jeong Ho-seung's poems show the world of poetry that is faithful to historical perception. The significance of this study is to clarify that it should not be limited to evaluating Hoseung Chung's early poetry as poems of love and hope based on the emotion of universal sadness, and evaluating Hoseung Chung's poetic attitude as contemplative.
