미얀마인 중고급 한국어 학습자의 분절음 오류 빈도 (Frequency of segmental sound errors among intermediate and advanced Korean learners from Myanmar)

초록

본고에서는 미얀마인 중고급 학습자 10인의 동화 텍스트 낭독 발화에 보이는 분절음 오류를 초성, 중성, 종성 위치를 기준으로 추출한 후, 오류의 빈도, 유형 및 원인을 중심으로 분석해 보았다.
학습자들의 초성 오류율은 1.5%~5.0% 사이에 있었으며 평음 /ㅅ/를 경음 /ㅆ/로 발음하는 오류가 많았다. 오류의 원인은 한국어 음운 규칙의 미적용, 두 언어간 음절 구조와 음절 구조 제약의 차이, 음운 체계와 변이음의 차이에 있었다. 종성 오류율은 14.7%~47.6%의 범위였고 오류의 빈도는 ‘탈락 > 대치 > 첨가’의 순서로 나타났다. 특히 /ㄹ/ 탈락은 거의 모든 학습자에게서 45.9%~68.9%의 높은 비율로 나타났다. 이는 미얀마인 한국어 학습자의 발음 교육에서 가장 중점을 두어야 할 것은 바로 종성, 그중에서도 어말 종성의 /ㄹ/ 발음임을 보여준다.
중성 오류율은 1.9%~7.5%의 범위로 초성에 비해 학습자별 편차가 심했으며, 오류 유형이 다양해서 일반화하기 어려웠다. 다만, 다수의 학습자에게서 폐음절 내부에 있는 /ㅏ/ 모음이 /ㅐ/로 바뀌는 중앙화 현상과 목적격 조사 ‘을’이 /ㅜ/로 바뀌는 대치가 관찰되었다.
이 연구는 정제된 텍스트에 기반한 낭독 발화를 통해서 미얀마인 중고급 학습자들의 발음 오류를 계량적으로 분석하여 공통 오류와 개별 오류를 구분하였다는 점에서 연구의 의미를 찾을 수 있다.

영어초록

This study aims to investigate the frequency of segmental sound errors in Myanmar intermediate-advanced Korean learners and provide basic data for pronunciation education of Myanmar Korean learners. Segmental sound errors in the reading speech of 10 Myanmar intermediate-advanced learners were extracted based on the positions of initial, medial, and final segments, and then analyzed based on the frequency, types, and causes of errors.
The initial consonant error rates of the learners ranged from 1.5% to 5.0%, and many of them were errors in pronouncing the flat /s(ㅅ)/ as the hard /s*(ㅆ)/. The causes of the mistakes were the non-application of Korean phonological rules, differences in syllable structure and syllable structure constraints between the two languages, and differences in the phonological system and allophones.
The final consonant error rates are high, ranging from 14.7% to 47.6%, and the frequency of errors is in the order of ‘dropping > substitution > adding.’ In particular, the dropout of /ㅣ(ㄹ)/ is high in almost all learners, ranging from 45.9% to 68.9%. This shows that the most important thing to focus on in pronunciation education for Myanmar people is the pronunciation of the final consonant, especially the /ㅣ(ㄹ)/ of the final consonant.
The error rates of the medial vowel ranged from 1.9% to 7.5%, showing a large difference among learners compared to the initial consonant, and it is difficult to generalize because the types of errors are diverse. However, the centralization phenomenon in which the /a(ㅏ)/ vowel in a closed syllable was changed to /ɛ(ㅐ)/ and the substitution in which the objective particle ‘ɯl/ɾɯl(을/를)’ was changed to /u(ㅜ)/ were observed in many learners.
The significance of this study lies in the fact that it quantitatively analyzed the pronunciation errors of Myanmar intermediate and advanced learners through reading speech based on refined text and distinguished common errors from individual errors.
