오용록의 선율연구, 음군론 (Oh Yong-nok’s Study on the Theory of Melody, A Tonal Group(音群))

초록

오용록은 한국전통음악에 대한 연구로 현존 음악의 중요성을 인식하고 현존 음악의 음악 내적 구조 연구를 체계화 하였다. 음악이론 연구의 체계를 ‘재료’에 관한 연구로 Pitch론, 음계론(=음관계론), 리듬론(장단론), 악기론, ‘어떻게 엮어가는가’와 관련된 연구로 선율전개론, 형성론으로 구분하고 기타 갈래론으로 구분하였다. 이중 음계론과 리듬론은 앞에서 제시한 음고와 음장 요소의 단계별 층위를 포괄적으로 설명한 것으로 추정된다.
오용록은 음관계론의 방법으로 音群의 개념을 제시하였다. 음군은 중심음 淸을 중심으로 4-5도 아래의 음과 2중핵음을 이루는 골격에 이를 수식해주는 음들로 형성된 체계로의 설명인데, 이는 음계적 층위의 설명이기도 하지만, 이들 음군의 연결형태는 결국 선율의 구조를 설명하는 것이므로 이보형의 토리와 함께 음계와 선율의 사이를 이어주는 층위의 개념으로 생각된다. 또 선율 안에서의 음군의 변화는 변조 변청의 조바꿈으로 해석할 수 있다. 따라서 오용록의 음군은 청과 이중핵음, 그리고 장식음으로 구성된 음계 또는 선법보다는 선율적 구성음간의 관계를 표현한 것으로 설명할 수 있다. 한국전통음악의 음고조직을 처음에 음계 또는 선법적 개념으로 설명하려 시도하다가, 각 지역별, 장르별 음고조직의 고유한 성격을 드러내는 데 필요한 시김새와 선율진행 방식 등의 요소를 부가할 필요가 생기자 ‘토리론’, ‘음관계론－음군론’이 제시된 것이라 하겠는데, 이는 음계 선법의 층위를 넘어서는 것으로 음계와 선율의 중간 지점에 있는 개념이기 때문에 선율론의 시작으로 보아야 할 것이다.
오용록의 음군 개념을 형성해온 일련의 논문들은 오용록 자신이 말했듯이 다분히 자의적 해석과 개념이 많이 포함되어 있다. 즉 객관적인 논증과정을 거쳐 선율의 구조와 각 구성음의 음관계를 설명한 것이 아니라 자신의 주관적 해석에 따른 것이 많다는 것이다. 그래서 학술적 서술이라기보다는 음악 감상의 평론적 서술로 평가될 수도 있는 글들이라고 하겠다. 그러나 현행 음악의 감상에서는 오용록의 분석 결과로 이해되는 점이 많아서 앞으로 선율 구조 분석에 많은 도움이 되는 글이라 하겠다. 그러나 단순히 감상이라고만 하기에는 중요한 국악이론적 분석과 개념을 만들고 제시하였다. 이런 점은 과학적 논증방식의 논문보다 예술작품으로서의 음악을 설명하는 데 오히려 더 유용할 수도 있다.

영어초록

Music begins with notes and moves on to a piece of music stage. Tones are composed of elements of pitch height, length, and color, which are layered in the steps of tuning tone － a tone row － scale － mode － tory － tune － a piece of music, and beat － meter － rhthmic cycle(metric) － rhthmic cycle(rhythmic) - rhythmic tory － rhythm － tune - a piece of music. However, color step-by-step hierarchy classification is difficult because no studies have been conducted on the tone color as well as the sound field element.
Oh Yong-nok recognized the importance of existing music as a study of traditional Korean music and organized the study of the internal structure of existing music. The framework of music theory research was divided into the theory of melody development and formation by the study of ‘materials’ and related to Pitch theory, phonetics (=negative relation theory), rhythm theory (long-term theory), instrumental theory, and ‘how to weave’ into different types of music theory. It is estimated that dual phonograph and rhythm theory comprehensively described the phasic and phantom elements presented earlier.
Oh Yong-nok presented the concept of tonal group(音群) as a method of tonal system theory. The tonal group is a description of a system formed by notes that modulate the bones of 4-5 degrees below the central consonant 2, which is also a description of the tone layers, but the connecting form is thought to be a concept of a layer that connects the notes with the Tori, and the changes in the pitch can be interpreted as a premature form of modulation excitation. Therefore, Oh Yong-nok’s vocal range can be described as expressing the relationship between melodic compositions rather than the scale or melody consisting of a Cheong(淸) and a double core tone and a decorative sound. It is said that the tonal system of traditional Korean music was first tried to explain the tonal structure in terms of scales, but it was suggested that ‘Tory’ and ‘tonal relation theory’ are going beyond the hierarchy of the tonal system.
As Oh Yong-nok himself said, a series of papers that have shaped the concept of the tone in the book contain a lot of arbitrary interpretations. In other words, many of them are based on their subjective interpretations rather than explaining the structure of the melody and the tonal relationship of each composed sound after an objective discussion process. So these are not academic descriptions, but critical descriptions of listening to music. However, the current appreciation of music is understood as the result of Oh Yong-nok’s analysis, which will help us analyze the structure of melody. And he created and presented Gugak theory analysis and concepts that are important for simple appreciation. This may be more useful in explaining music as an art work than a scientific paper. Also, Oh’s writings, like Lee Hye-gu’s research, have been largely ignored because of the current music phenomenon rather than the analysis considering the historical transformation of each music. This is something to be critically examined in that it could be a mistake to see the structure of music melody properly. Nevertheless, the melody analysis by Oh Yong-nok’s concept of the phoneme is a valuable study in that it tries to find a universal perspective by analyzing various kinds of traditional Korean music melodies in a wide range of genres.
