후설의 선험적 현상학은 오이켄의 질서자유주의에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는가? (On the Affiliation of Trancendental Phenomenology and Ordoliberalism)

초록

이 글은 20세기 초반의 대표적 사상가와 경제학자인 Edmund Husserl, Rudolf Eucken, Walter Eucken의 개인적․학문적 관계를 조사하고, 나아가 현대 독일의 최고 철학자 중 한 명으로 평가되는 후설의 현상학이 사회적 시장경제의 아버지로 불리는 발터 오이켄의 질서자유주의에 미친 영향을 확인하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위하여 후설과 오이켄 부자와의 관계를 당시의 시대적 상황의 맥락에서 검토하였고 이어서 발터 오이켄의 학문적 방법론의 핵심, 그리고 이것과 현상학과의 인식론적 유사점을 조사하였다. 또한 루돌프 오이켄의 생활세계 철학을 검토하고 또 이것과 후설 및 오이켄 부자의 연구와의 관계를 조사하였다. 이와 더불어 후설의 정치철학과 오이켄 부자의 정치철학과의 관계를 조사하였으며 후설의 선험적 현상학과 발터 오이켄의 질서자유주의에 대해서 학제적 접근방법으로 검토하였다. 또한 루돌프 오이켄의 정신생활의 철학과 현상학 및 경제학과의 관계를 조사하였다.
후설의 현상학은 다양한 내용을 가지고 있는데 발터 오이켄은 그 가운데 주로 후설의 초기 현상학 이론의 일부만을 받아들였다. 발터 오이켄은 방법론에 있어서 여러 학자들의 이론을 참조하여 통합적, 절충적 접근방법을 택했다. 발터 오이켄은 모든 유형의 전체주의 이념에 반대해서 투쟁했으며 이와 관련하여 발터 오이켄은 현상학보다는 질서자유주의적 자유와 인간존엄에 대하여 더 큰 관심을 가진 것으로 보인다. 이러한 점에서 후설 철학이 발터 오이켄에게 절대적 영향을 미쳤다고 보기는 어렵다.논문접수일: 2016. 3. 9 ; 수정일: 2016. 3. 31 ; 게재확정일: 2016. 4. 4 ; 논문유사도검사: 통과* 이 글은 2016년 경제학공동학술대회(2016. 2. 18. 서울대학교)에서 발표한 “Edmund Husserl의 초월적 현상학과 Walter Eucken의 질서자유주의”를 수정한 것이다. 당시 토론자로서 적확한 지적과 조언을 통해 이 글에서 철학적 부분의 완성도를 높이는데 도움을 준 홍태희 교수와 논문 심사과정에서 건설적 비판과 제안으로 초고의 오류를 수정하고 전반적 보완이 이루어질 수 있게 도움을 준 익명의 심사자 2인에게 감사드린다. 아울러 주제 구상에 영감과 자극을 준 ‘경제질서연구회’ 월례 토론모임 구성원들에게 감사드린다.

루돌프 오이켄의 지식학적 방법과 참의 영역을 목표로 하는 위기 주제 분석은 발터 오이켄의 경제윤리를 방법론 수준과 문화적 및 사회-정치적 수준에서 형성하게 하는데 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 또한 루돌프 오이켄의 생활세계 철학에 대한 후설의 존경과 루돌프 오이켄과 후설 사상의 광범위한 유사점은 발터 오이켄에 대한 루돌프 오이켄의 영향이 지대했음을 시사하고 있다. 루돌프 오이켄은 발터 오이켄에게 최소한 후설만큼 중요한 영향을 미친 것으로 보인다. 이러한 측면에서 발터 오이켄의 경제질서정책이 현상학적 기반만을 가지고 있고, 현상학이 질서자유주의의 메타이론이라는 주장은 타당하다고 보기 어렵다. 그렇다고 해서 발터 오이켄의 규범적 질서 수립에 대한 후설의 현상학의 역할이 무시되거나 과소평가되어서는 안되며 오히려 그 반대로 그 역할이 충분히 인식 되어야 할 필요가 있다.

영어초록

This paper explores the various personal and intellectual links between Edmund Husserl, Rudolf and Walter Eucken. The interdisciplinary approach gives an insight into Husserl’s transcendental phenomenology, Walter Eucken’s Ordoliberalism as well as in the interdependency between phenomenology and economics for which Rudolf Eucken’s philosophy of intellectual life plays an important role. Particular affiliations between phenomenology and economics can be found in the following topics: epistemology, the idea of man, the comprehension of liberty and the importance of legal or social orders, institutional rules and frameworks of regulations.
The first part highlights the biographical background and the historical context of the relationship of the Husserl and Eucken families. The second part examines the pillars of Walter Eucken’s scientific methodology and their epistemological analogy with phenomenology. The third section reviews Rudolf Eucken’s life-world philosophy (Lebenswelt- or Geisteslebensphilosophie), pointing out some of the similarities to Husserl’s as well as to Walter Eucken’s work. The fourth part looks for affiliations in Husserl’s and Walter Eucken’s political philosophy.
Husserl’s phenomenology rests on many pillars, and Eucken absorbs just a few, especially early phenomenological elements: central aspects of the philosophy of consciousness are not at all taken into account, others are chosen quite selectively and out of context. But this is nothing to get upset about it, because Eucken represents a syncretistic and eclectic approach, and he seems to be more concerned with the fight against totalitarian ideologies of any kind and his standing up for ordoliberal freedom and human dignity compared with his epistemological efforts. All this goes along with the underlying thesis of this paper that an absolutization of Husserl’s philosophy is inappropriate-especially when taking Walter Eucken’s eclecticism into account (i.e. explicit references to Rudolf Eucken, Husserl, Weber, Thünen, Kant et al.). Moreover, Walter Eucken regarded himself as a disciple of his father, and in fact Rudolf Eucken’s noological method aiming at the realm of truth as well as his analysis of the crisis topic shaped Walter Eucken’s economic ethics both on the methodological as well as on the cultural and socio-political level. Last not least, Husserl’s admiration of Rudolf Eucken’s Lebensweltphilosophie and the far-reaching analogies between Rudolf Eucken and Edmund Husserl relativize the effect of Husserl while raising the influence of Rudolf Eucken: Eucken senior seems to be at least as important as Husserl refusing the thesis that Eucken’s Wirtschaftsordnungspolitik has a solely phenomenological basis and that phenomenology were a meta-theory of Ordoliberalism. Although we are denying the absolutization of Husserl’s phenomenology and refuting the Foucaultian and Herrmann-Pillathian reductionism from an Eucken perspective, we are not totally neglecting the eminent role phenomenology plays regarding the foundation of Eucken’s normative (socio-economic) order. Contrary, we are well aware of this line of reception.
