‘카지노 세계’에 연민은 없다－2000년대 금융자본주의와 한국소설의 대응- (There is no Compassion in ‘Casino World’ -Financial capitalism and Korean novels in the 2000s-)

초록

이 글은 1997년 소위 IMF사태 이후 한국에도 본격 도입된 금융자본주의에 대해 한국소설은 어떻게 대응하고 있는가를 점검한다. 금융자본주의는부익부빈익빈의 세계화를 추동하면서 인류의 경제를 파국에 몰아넣고 있어카지노자본주의라는 별명까지 얻고 있다. 이에 대한 저항도 지구적 차원에서 다양하게 이뤄지고 있으니, 협동조합․사회적 기업 등 전통적인 사회경제의 영역 말고도 기본소득․토빈세 등의 제안들이 그 일부이다.
카지노자본주의에서 일어나는 수탈은 농업자본주의나 산업자본주의와는달리 눈에 잘 보이지 않지만, 그 힘은 훨씬 강력하며 광범위하다. 또한 이는 단순한 경제의 문제에만 그치는 것이 아니라 윤리나 양심 도덕 등과도긴밀하게 관련되기도 한다. 2000년대 한국소설은 이 빈곤문제에 대해 큰비중으로 다루고 있지만 막상 빈곤의 원인에 대해서는 주목하지 못했다.
이 글은 김애란을 살피면서 빈곤소설의 주요한 경향을 비판하고, 그 경향에서 자유롭지는 못하지만 나름의 변별점을 지니는 사례로서 염승숙과 윤고은의 작품을 분석하면서 빈곤소설의 방향을 제시한다.
염승숙의 「노웨어맨」은 저학력의 자영업자가 2대에 걸쳐 파산하는 과정을 그린다. 아버지 세대보다 아들 세대에 빈곤화가 더 심화되었음을 보여주며, 문학담당층과 거리가 있는 자영업자라는 직업에까지 소설적 영역을확장시켰다. 윤고은의 『밤의 여행자들』은 중견기업의 제3세계 지사에 근무하는 중간간부라는, 자본운동의 세계성을 보여주기에 적합한 인물을 등장시키고, 서사와 상징을 통해 그 비인간성을 고발한다. 이 기업이 제3세계에 인공적으로 싱크홀을 만들고 이 인공재난을 여행상품으로 팔아 이윤을축적하며, 주인공의 노동이 이를 위해 복무한다는 설정이다.
세 작가에게 공통적인, 아마도 2000년대 소설 전반에 해당될 수 있을, 문제점이라면 다음의 두 가지를 들 수 있다. 첫째, 빈곤화를 가져오는 원인, 즉 금융자본주의의 메커니즘을 제대로 그려내지 못했다. 둘째, 자본주의의 외부에 대한 모색이 전혀 없다. 윤고은의 제3세계조차도 완전히 자본주의에 포박된 상황으로만 그려지며, 보수진영에서조차 다양하게 시도되는대안적 흐름도 보이지 않는다. 결국 2000년대 한국소설을 읽는 독자는 빈곤화의 원인과 탈출구에 대해서 전혀 알 수 없게 된다. 현실의 인접학문과대안운동이 그 원인과 대책을 활발하게 모색하고 있음과 매우 대조적이다.
이 괴리는 한국소설로부터 독자들이 멀어져가게 만드는 힘 중 하나일 것이다.

This article roughly examines how Korean novels are responding to financial capitalism, which has been brought to Korea since the so - called IMF crisis in 1997.
Financial capitalism is pushing the economy of mankind to the catastrophe by promoting the globalization of the rich and poor, the nickname of casino capitalism.Resistance to this is also being done on a global scale. In addition to the traditional socioeconomic areas such as cooperatives and social enterprises, basic income and Tobin tax are some of the attempts..
Exploitation taking place in financial capitalism, unlike the capitalist agricultural or industrial capitalism does not look good in the eyes, the force is more powerful and widespread.It is not just a matter of the economy, it is also a problem that is closely related to ethics and morals of conscience. In the 2000s, Korean novels also deal with this poverty very heavily, and this paper analyzed and analyzed the works of Yeom Seung-suk, and Yun Go-eun.
Kim Aa-ran describes the suffering of poverty by introducing occupations familiar to the unemployed and his generation, such as part-time students and lecturers. This phenomenon is common to most of the poverty novels in the 2000s, and the exceptional one is Yeom Seung-suk, and Yun Go-eun's work.
Yeom Seung-suk‘s <NOWHERE MAN> depicts the process of bankruptcy of both low-education self-employed father and son. Over time, it shows that poverty has become worse, and has extended the fictional area to the lives of people who are far away from writers in generations and education. It extended the novel sphere to the less educated and older generations than most of Korean writers.
The Night Travelers introduce a person who is suitable for showing the global character of the capital movement, a middle executive who works for the third world branch office of a midsize company, and accuses the inhumanity through narrative and symbolism. It is very impressive that this company is making a third world sinkhole artificially, selling this artificial disaster as a travel product and accumulating profits, and setting up the hero's labor to serve it.
Common to all three writers, and thus possibly flaws in the 2000s novels, defects, There are two kinds of things. First, it failed to draw the cause of poverty, the mechanism of financial capitalism.I wonder if these novelists would make a fund manager appear. Second, there is no search for outside of capitalism.Even the Third World, which Yoon Eun is drawing, is entirely subsumed to capitalism, and there are no alternatives to the globalization of poverty, which is being tried variously even in conservative camps.
In short, readers of Korean fiction in the 2000s will not know at all about the cause and way out of their suffering poverty, but this topic is being explored very actively in reality.I think this divergence is one of the forces that let readers get away from Korean novels.
