산업디자인 분야에서의 NFT 활용 가치와 전망에 관한 융복합 연구 (A Convergence Study on the Value and Prospect of NFT Utilization in Industrial Design)

초록

NFT(Non-fungible Token)는 고유한 인식 값을 가진 디지털 자산으로, 블록체인 기술과 관련 시장의 급성장으로 사회적 관심이 증가하며 NFT의 적용 범주가 넓어지고 있다. 특히 예술 분야를 중심으로 큰 화두가 되고 있으며, 많은 산업 분야에서 NFT라는 새로운 기술을 접목해 기업의 경쟁력 확보를 위한 다양한 수단으로 활용하는 추세이다.
본 연구는 산업디자인과 NFT 기술의 융합에 관한학제적 연구의 필요성을 계기로 시작되었다. 이에 본논문의 목적은 NFT의 개념과 관련 선행연구를 근거로 하여 주요 시장 동향과 특성을 고찰하고, 현재NFT와 제품 디자인이 융합된 사례들을 디자인 권리, 디자인 마케팅, 디자인 거래 플랫폼의 세 가지 분류로분석을 진행하여 디자인 산업에서 NFT 기술의 발전방향을 연구하는 것이다. NFT와 관련된 논제는 예술분야를 중심으로 활발하게 논의되고 있지만, 산업디자인 분야에서의 적용 사례 및 관련 연구가 부족한 현실로 디지털 혁신 기술과 산업디자인의 융복합적 관점에서의 연구를 통하여 기업과 디자이너에게 미래비전을 제시하는 데에 의의가 있다.
연구의 결과 및 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, NFT의특성 중 투명성과 고유성은 지식재산권의 침해가 일반적인 디자인 산업에서 디자이너가 지식재산권을 보호하는 데에 적용할 수 있다. 둘째, 산업디자인 분야에서 NFT의 희소성은 상업적 측면에서 제품의 브랜드와 디자인의 인지도를 높일 수 있는 효과를 가져올수 있다. 셋째, NFT는 경제성의 특성을 가진다. 산업디자이너는 자신의 NFT 디자인 작업물을 판매 및 라인선싱에 활용하여 새로운 사업의 기회와 영역을 확장하는 가능성을 시사한다. 이를 통해 NFT는 디자인분야에서 새로운 트렌드로 자리 잡고 있으며 향후 산업디자인 업계에서 폭넓게 적용될 수 있는 블록체인기술의 상용화 가능성을 찾아볼 수 있었다.
이러한 분석 결과를 바탕으로 아직 NFT와 관련된연구가 업계 내에서 부족한 상황에서 디자인 제품에대한 저작권과 관련된 제도적 장치 및 법적인 지원이충분히 고려되어야 하며 NFT 기술이 산업디자인 분야에서 상용화되기 위한 실질적이고 구체적인 방안을지속해서 논의해 나가야 할 필요가 있다고 사료된다.
본 연구가 향후 NFT 기술의 발전과 시장 수요의 변화와 맞물려 산업디자인 분야에서 성장하기 위한 기초자료로써 활용되길 기대한다.

영어초록

NFT (Non-fungible Token) is a digital asset with a distinct identification value, and it has gained increased social attention due to the rapid growth of the blockchain technology and related markets.
The range of NFT application has been expanding as a significant topic, particularly in the art field, and many industries are incorporating and converging the new technology, NFT, as a means to utilize in various method to enhance their competitive edge.
This study was initiated in response to the need for interdisciplinary research on the convergence of industrial design and NFT technology. The purpose of this study is to examine the major market trend and characteristics of NFT based on the concept of NFT and related preceding studies. Additionally, the study will analyze cases where NFT has been integrated with product design, categorized into three groups : design rights, design marketing, and design trading platforms. The aim of this research is to study the direction of NFT technology development in the design industry. While NFT-related issues are actively being discussed in the art field, there is a lack of NFT application cases and related research in the industrial design field. Therefore, this study has a significance of suggesting visions in the futures to companies and designers from a multidisciplinary perspective of industrial design perspectives and digital innovation technology.
The results and contents of the study are as follows. First, the transparency and uniqueness of NFT can be applied to protect intellectual property rights of the designers in the general design industry. Second, the rarity of NFT in the industrial design field can have the effect of increasing the brand and design awareness of products from a commercial perspective. Third, the industrial designers indicate the possibility of expanding new business opportunities and areas by utilizing their NFT design works for sale and licensing. On the basis of the analysis, NFT has been emerged as a new trend in the design fields, and the possibility of commercializing blockchain technology, which can be widely applied in the industrial design industry, has been explored.
Based on the analysis results, it is necessary to consider the institutional strategy and legal support related to copyright for design products, and to continue discussing about the practical and concrete measures for commercialization of NFT technology in the industrial design field. We are expecting that this study will be utilized as a basic material for the growth of the industrial design field in line with the future development of NFT technology and changes in the market demand.
